Thanks bud, i have a forum just like this one, i created it back in November thinking it was the first on MYFF lol, anyway i have only just started working on on mine again, i stopped becuase of so much going on and PC problems.

Thankfully i have more time now and hopefully i will be ableto get mine off the ground since i haven't even started advertising mine yet and will not be doing so for at least a few more weeks as there is alot of work still that needs to be done.

You have done well with tis forum, and i can see you made yours back in July, hopefully though the market for movie forums picks up soon as itlooks like things are slow not meaning that your forum is slow just not many people makg these kind of forums.

My friend made a um a while back i made a soccer forum and an online gaming forum along with a chatter box forum, both he footballing and online games forums took off very quick the chatter box forum was slow and only managed to have about 10 people join. Hopefully though we both become much more successful and have many people join our forums, and maybe both our forums become very popular.

You have 30 members and alot of posts, but i do think if you meged some forums that are not used ery often wouldhelp with atracting more people, for example the western, classical music forums ben merged into a general movies forum would perhas get more people joining as yor index page ould be a little shorter.

I wuld show you my forum but i do not wish to give the link to it out just yet, i only have 11 articals on it at the moment and thats because i have been working on it today. It was just pot luck that i found this forum in the advertisments section in the MYFF support forum  otherwise i wouldn't have known about it, as i didn't do a search for any movie forums.

Never the less its good to see that thre is another movie forum on the net and in MYFF. Keep up the good work bud and congrates.

Thanks Roy .....yeah movie forums do seem to be increasing slowly or even posts to them are generally slow at the moment.....but I do think they will increase just as I think here 'FilmFlicking' will continue growing and eventually become much bigger.....Not that its not the end all and be all either mate.....if you can get a good set of Admin (or Partners with the same goals for your forum) and a small number of posters who are the friendliest bunch of people ever I think thats half the battle already and I have to say I do feel in that alone in itself.... FilmFlicking is a complete success...
Thanks for the advice too...I'm always looking for ways to improve here and will definitely take what you say and think on it some and of course discuss it with other Flickers here....

Let me know when you are advertising your forum and perhaps we can discuss an affiliation or something where we provide each other's links    and the best of luck yourself with your forum...stick with it you'll get there bud

Cheers bud.

You are right Lucifer_666, you do need good staff members who are both active and trust worthy. You look as though you have good staff members here and thats good to see. After all its easy to find staff members but its hard to find ones who not only have the same goals as you but are trust worthy, you have done this by the looks of things and hopefully you never have a problem with any saff members.

You are also correct about having a few active members, in all the time i have been making forums i have noticed the one mistake many people make is to promote there active user to moderators and/or Admins, to me you don't need any staff members on till you have at least 10 active members and even then you only need one moderator.

On a forum where we had almost 60 active members i was the only person to be an Admin, there was three moderators all very active but not the most active of the members, its nicer to see members posting all the time then see staff members replying to on another's posts.

You seem like you either understand the main tasks of making a forum work or have experience in this area from past forums etc. Either way you are doing well and as long as you set yourselves goals you will continue to grow.

I would love to see your forum become very big, with loads of members posting all through the day, even though i have a forum like this i never try to take ones members from them, i like people to join my forum because they like it or want to discuss something they like not join because they have been asked to or feel forced to follow.

Since i have decided not to have an actual forum called a movies forum as such, but am trying to bring back one of my old forums i would love to link exchange with you. But for now i will wait on till i have brourght the site up to date and updated any add ons i feel would help the members injoy there experience.

I can give you a few things that would perhaps help you improve the look of the site and make it seem alot more active, if you wish me to go into details then please feel free to ask and i will post all the details in the suggestions section.

Anyway i think i have already said more than enough and perhaps bored the hell out of those wh began reading this post. As you get to know me you will find that i'm a pain for making huge posts, most of the time babling on about something that to most would seem pointless lol.

Well by no means do I want to give out the impression Roy that I have loads of experience on running forums but I have been on many as a simple user and have seen some fall and suffer badly due to in-fighting and basically not appreciating the great posters that they had..also some posters had got caught up with their own importance when selected as admin which is very very different to here thankfully which is partly I suppose to do with the fact that we (Admin) were all friends well before FilmFlicking ever begin and I really don't think any of us would allow anything like a forum or a forum title get in the way of that.
You see although I'm the official owner of 'FilmFlicking' its really a three man show (oh sorry Cat   ) a Trinity if you will who run things and generally promote the site on the net.....
Personally I believe although being Admin you have more power I do think its balanced very much by extra responsibilities to the normal posters who are the rock and core of any forum...I could argue at times that Admin is more of a servant to a normal user than anything else though thats not to belittle the Admin position or my own for that matter    as I think it is vital and an extremely important lifeline here. I do have goals though for FF I also have a beliefs on how forums should be run...sometimes it doesn't always work out as I had envisaged now but I do try   .

I guess we just look at things differently here...I don't look at other forums... movie or not as competition or the enemy...in fact I believe we can all help each other after all its good to give posters options and thats all we are doing..I also think it helps forums improve by forcing Admin to keep the eye on the ball there is too many forums out there ..I could mention one in particular I know were the owner is very rarely on and doesn't post regularly and in my opinion he's in bad need of some healthy competition there   .. I also don't think you give today's posters due credit either mate....by putting up your link on other forums doesn't put a chain around people's necks...they don't have to join your forum but like I said earlier your giving people the option ;) which is all good!!

That would be great Roy I'm always looking for suggestions on how to improve here..though I can't guarantee they will be implemented but all will be definitely read and considered......thanks :)

And no bother about the long posts Roy you'll find mine can be equally as long too

I lost touch with my goals a long time ago, for personal reasons and a baby i had very little time online and what time i did have free i spent on a game i was addicted to. Because of that addiction i lost sight of the actual goals i had set myself, and the soccer forum became inactive.

People still join it, only the other day a few posts was made by a new member. The staff members visit from time to tie so it could easily e reborn if you like. Just i have to set my self some goals and make sure that soccer and the forum is what i really want.

Ever seen something you really want and when you go to buy it you ask yourself is it really what you want or is there something else that would be better spending your time on? thats how its been for me for a while, the soccer forum's goal was simple but at the sametime almost impossible to achive hence the reason it was set as the goal, the goal was to have the best soccer forum on the net. Not because i believed it could be done or to show off, i didn't want to make out i was better than all th other forums out there. I just thourght having a goal like that would goal would never be completed no mattr how successful it became.

So i would never loose touch with things, unfortunatelly, i created an online gameing forum and got hooked to some games, both the soccer and online gaming forums lost out due to inactivaty and i lost touch with the actual goal that was put in pace to try and povent me from loosing touch with things.

I personally say ever 3 months or so you should set yourself  new goal that way you will hopefully never loose touch with your dreams and this forum will continue to grow and become more and more successful.

If i do a soccer forum i thnk i would make it a sports forum as i don't follow soccer any more, at leastwith a sports forum i could talk about other sports i like whilst post about things i have read or hard about from the soccer world. Then there are other sports like tennis, snooker etc.

The soccer foum had/has loads of link excahnges with forums, web sites, advertising sites and other things on the net. I think in total there was something like 100 sites we had link exchanged within just 5 moths of it been created.

Of course we had to remove some links because that site became inactive and only wanted to have forums that was active to be link partners with us. We never discriminated forums by size it didn't matter if they had 1 million members or just 1 member as long as they was active we would link exchange with them, if however they became inactive we would remve them and inform them of this via email with the reasons why there link had been removed from our forum.

Anyway i think alot of people who make a forum for the first time find out that the easy part is making the forum, but makig it successful is a totally different thing. Experience i believe is very important as it helps you not only understand what goals are needed but also what people are looking for on the forums.

For example you have a few inactive categories like the western section, but you have many active area's which is why the western catagory is over looked as been inactive. But many people try to expand fartoo soon and end up loosing sight of things and soon find out that they have done to much to soon. I know this from experience as i did it, and a friend who had his own forum gave me some tips, i made him an admin and he deleted all the categories he felt was pointless or brought in far too soon.

Before i knew it the forum index page was halved and people started joining, now i keep the index pageas small as possible, i use subforums from time to time but keeping the index page small helped me out alot.

You have a lot of posts and 30 members but i still feel that your index page is a little to big, if i was you i would create a caegory called other's in the movie section and put all the inactrive categories threads i there and delete there category. I will however post my suggestions in your suggestions forum, i don't expect you to do any f them but as you said its alway's nice to see what people think would help improve the site. But to be honest i don't have many suggestions, after looking around in more depth i think your site is good as it is just a few little things here and there would perhaps help by how much i don't know but thats something that no one will be able to tell you.

The Sports Forum sounds great Roy...I know I definirtely would join mate if you were to launch it and I'm sure others here would too

I do need to get here on many more forum link exchanges and affiliations.....your number of 100 sites within 5 months really shows me that I need to this badly

I also know the feeling about having a goal like yourself ..as I also want here to be the best film forum going which as you say is kind of a neverending aspiration though I do think your advice of having smaller goals and time periods is a good one
