*SPOILER*ALERT*
Like certain sequels Shrek the Third had a lot to live up to particularly as the second movie was a huge success and for me the original film being a classic that has never been surpassed....So just to get it out of the way immediately if your expecting it to be as groundbreaking or as funny as the first two your going to be disappointed and perhaps a little deluded too . This movie is very good however it was never going to live up to expectations that people have!
The movie begins unlike the others without the usual storybook opening instead we see Prince Charming galloping through some woods only for the camera to span out revealing his horse and landscape is fake and he is actually performing in a play which doesn't go very well for him which sets out Charming's ill feeling throughout the movie and his role as the lead bad guy.
After some funny moments with Shrek assuming the King's duties while he is away most notably when Fiona and Shrek are put into some really tight royal gear and Shrek gets an itch on his behind that he can't reach.....He calls over some royal aide and asks "What's your Name?" to which the aide nervously responds "Fiddlesworth Sir" Shrek giggles "Perfect!" . Though Shrek isn't happy as he wants his swamp life back and it gets even worse when the King returns and dies leaving him two alternatives... either become King or go search for Arthur who can also assume the role. So Shrek flanked by mates Donkey and Puss set out on their mission to find the young lad but as they are leaving on the boat Fiona eventually shouts to him "She's Pregnant!" which I have to say leads to my favourite scene in the movie....We see Shrek dancing to sweet music back in his swamp and then after hearing Fiona's voice he dances inside.....But once in... the music stops,..darkness smothers the area directly behind and the door slams shut. Suddenly a pram wheels up and shrek pulls away the blanket to reveal .....A baby ogre! All of a sudden there is ogre babies everywhere getting themselves into trouble and their Dad is running about the place catching them and pulling them away from danger....A panicked Shrek now with babies climbing all over him pulls over a curtain......behind it..one single baby ogre is sitting reading a book and turns and says "Baaboo?" in a real ...'Is there a problem?' kind of way... .its a genuine funny moment and when I say the babies are cute I mean CUTE!!! You ladies will love them. Anyway it goes on and gets worse with even more babies turning up but then Shrek wakes up and it transpires to be all a dream! Shrek then finds Arthur who is voiced by Justin Timberlake and he does a pretty good job it must be said......markedly in a scene where he cries and pleads
While Shrek is away,.. Charming with an army of bad fairytale characters takes over Far Far Away and Fiona and her band of female fairytale types go into hiding, yet eventually get caught.
After fighting off Hook and a couple of other nasties Merlin ( a bit of a cooky wizard) transports Shrek's band back to help Far Far Away and even though gets them all there Puss ends up in Donkey's body and vice versa ....."I feel all nasty and exposed!" voices a distraught donkey after realising Puss wears no pants LOL. It manifests to be a trap for Shrek however and Donkey and Puss are imprisoned with all the ladies....I really like Fiona's group too who consist of Fiona's Mum (The Queen), Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Doris (remember the man in drag?) . They decide to take matters into their own hands which displays them burning bras and Cinderella sharpening the heels of her glass slippers off a grinder lol which I enjoyed also........
Of course they all save the day in the end and we get to see more Baby Ogres but you'll have to wait to see it for yourselves....
Oh and there's a scene where the Queen uses her head to break holes in the walls she turns around all dazed and starts humming 'Just a spoonful of sugar from Mary Poppins' and then 'These are a few of my favourite things from the Sound of Music' LOL For those who don't know the Queen is voiced by Julie Andrews
Another scene which was funny was when the Gingerbread man's life flashes before his eyes when he thinks he's going to die. We see him baked, married, going through the torture and dissection of the first film and then we see him being rebuilt in a Six Million Dollar man spoof sequence
I also really liked the Snow White bird scene.....

I adored being brought back to the fairytale world of Shrek again and being introduced once more to those well known characters we all love .....
And okay this series is in decline but its still well worth a look and still has many funny moments....
