Jamie explodes over 'UK's culture of boozing' and says variety of food better in slums of Africa
Jamie Oliver has attacked his fellow Brits as a nation of beer-swilling, uncivilised materialists who no longer care about food.

He rants that our obsession with booze is only matched by our love of cars, widescreen TVs and mobile phones.
The celebrity chef accuses us of bland cookery, saying we are more interested "in getting drunk in pubs" than eating well.
He even claims he has found a better range of food prepared in the slums of Africa.
And the Essex boy who's worth £25million insists our habits are symptomatic of the UK's "new poverty".
His remarks in the latest French edition of Paris Match follow a "joke" he made last week about the Holocaust.
Germans said he'd insulted them when he told an audience how only they had complained about chicks being gassed in his Jamie's Fowl Dinners show.

Now, his interview in France - where significantly he'd like to shoot a TV programme - targets his own country.
Oliver, 33, says old-fashioned customs are still observed across the Channel.
But commenting on the fact that 80 per of Brits do not even sit round a table for dinner any more, Oliver says: "It's true in London and in the big northern cities. It's linked to the new poverty.
"People have huge TV sets - a lot bigger than mine - state-of-the-art mobile phones, cars and they get drunk in pubs at the weekend... their poverty shows in the way they feed themselves.   (Idiot!!)

"I found the cooking of the inhabitants of the slums in Soweto a lot more diverse than ours... I think a lot of English people's food lacks heart. It's bland."
When it was suggested that the English can't savour food because they drink too much, Oliver agrees: "It's true. We've never produced wine. (actually thats not true)

"We have a culture of alcohol and we're more beer-orientated ... the only people who drink more than us are the Irish and
the Scottish."
On British cuisine, he goes on: "We used to cook fabulous dishes. It's all in the past.

"Unlike French people... we have lost our traditions."
Oliver's 2005 school dinners campaign saw him become a people's champion.
And last night his spokesman insisted he was "fiercely patriotic" but got angry at hearing people say they don't have enough money for proper food when they possess all the modern luxuries.

He said Jamie - also bidding to ban pies from football grounds in his new Channel 4 series Ministry of Food - "just wants Britons to be fitter and healthier".

I think its about time Jamie Oliver shut the hell up..   ..I am so sick and tired of him telling everyone else how we should eat and how wrong everyone else is...just stick to the cookery shows you Plonker and stop trying to tel us all how to live

And if any of you are still not convinced on Oliver....just think for a moment.....do you believe he would want to keep normal snacks at cinemas...or would want us to go down the arty route??...I rest my case!!

I liked him when he first set out on the Naked Chef programmes (I've even got some of his cookery books!)......he was fresh, eager and passionate about food and came up with good recipe ideas, but now he's always on a crusade for something or other. He made a lot of enemies with his Jamie's Dinners prog where he tried getting schools to provide healthier school dinners......and I read he upset footie fans when he tried banning pies from their football club.....they booed him when he went on the pitch to make a speech! He's in real danger of losing a lot of fans he used to have.

How can he target the British as being terrible cooks who drink all the time when British food is enjoying a resurgence? As for people not sitting round the dinner table together anymore.......it's because The Brits work longer hours than other European countries!

Even if everything he was saying was valid (which it isn't) I still would have a problem hearing or being lectured by him about it....he's such an ass...he should keep his mouth shut and enjoy his millions....oh yeah and we are all materialistic

He should go back to what he's best at.....cooking....and leave the campaigns and crusades to other people. He must have set British cooking back years with those comments he made to the French......and they'll have pounced on his remarks with glee cause they always think their cuisine is better than ours. He's only reinforced the opinions other countries have of us as being drunk chav types who eat rubbish food

If this doesn't prove it than nothing will babe ..... Jamie Oliver only does this stuff to further his career...he was getting in with the French when he mouthed this crap because he is selling something over there and what better way to do it than to put down the British and boost up the French's way of living...this was not about changing britain but about been seen in a good light in France while he is there
