I've been reading this a lot lately. It's written by an American sports journalist called Chuck Culpepper who decides that, after years of writing about his country's national sports, he wants something new. So he moves to London and sets about trying to find a Premier League club to support for a season ( 2007-08) to try to understand our national game. After going to a few grounds he's taken by Portsmouth and becomes a fan, travelling everywhere with them for the season and gradually comes to love football. It's a funny read, as he goes from a 'stranger in a strange land' to almost one of us! And he becomes extremely involved in the fan rituals of the many people who love football and comes to understand just why the Premier League is so popular.

| I don't normally bother with sporting themed books but that actually sounds a very entertaining read! Has he come across any football violence Morphy? |

I agree it does sound intriguing doesn't it  Football or as they put it Soccer is becoming ever increasingly popular in the states too which is probably why the guy decided to take on the project in the first place

It is quite entertaining, and he doesn't come across any trouble, he's interested in what makes the Premier League so popular after years of following American sports and wanting a new slant on our football. I think that's one of the reasons it's become so popular in the States.

Well, yeah. But Beckham doesn't get a mention, he focuses on our league as well as providing some insight into the curious world of American sports and observations on the sporting life.
