A  third live-action movie based on the cartoon "Scooby Doo" will be released direct-to-DVD next year reports UPI.

The prequel entitled "Scooby-Doo: In the Beginning" will also be shown on the Cartoon Network and tells the tale of the dog Scooby Doo and his human mystery investigators during their younger years. Particularly how they came together to expose what's really haunting their high school.

The film will feature live actors mixed with computer-generated characters, though none of the stars of the earlier films will be involved. Shooting begins this week in Vancouver under the helm of Brian Levant ("Are We There Yet?").

I guess its a significant lower budget now  that none of the other stars are back...I thought they may have at least have gone for the guy who done Shaggy

I was going to say the same thing about Shaggy. Not as if Matthew Lillard has anything else to do. Perhaps they could have got the people who played them in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back?

Do we really need a 3rd Scooby Doo film?....I don't think so! I managed to get halfway through the first one and that was enough for me

I thought the first one was ok, especially the way they all got the hump with Scrappy Doo and chuck him out of the van and he ends up being the villian! Who hasn't wanted to slap that annoying little puppy around over the years?

Yep I surprisingly enjoyed the first movie too with the Scrappy jokes (I hated that pup)    but I only seen bits and pieces of the sequel..I do think this third film doesn't really need to happen either and really is just to cash in on kids expecting to see another big budget flick

Never know it may be good. Some of these straight to video sequels are pretty good. The Tremors ones spring to mind. I also quite enjoyed the recent Dukes Of Hazard prequel (despite the fact it didn't quite tally up with the first film). Saying that, I probably won't watch the new Scooby anyway.

I don't think I have seen either of those straight to dvd releases mate.....I am intrigued a bit on the Tremors one though...I take Kevin Bacon didn't return?

Kevin Bacon didn't return, no. There are 2 sequels and one prequel to Tremors. Fred Ward (Earl) is in the second film and Michael Gross (Burt) is in all of them. The fourth one (which is the prequel), wasn't all that good but I really like the second and third films. You can pick the boxset up for cheap.
