Christian Bale Wants Nolan's BATMAN to Remain Robin-Free?

Rumour has it that Bale is not Keen on Robin and said...

"If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I'll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work."
- Christian Bale

Well it always seems highly unlikely for the foreseable future to see Robin in any Batman movie and personally I'm with Bale if indeed he did make that statement? I don't think there is room for Robin in this much more realistic portrayal of the comicbook character without it taking away some of the cool that we have seen in Begins and what looks to be in Dark Knight

But what do others feel?....Do you think they can add Robin and keep the seriousness of the movie?

If it was to happen however I think Nightwing is more the way to go with the Robin character

I'm curious about the "one of the new Batman films" part cause that suggests more Batman films to come

I'd agree with him about Robin.....if Robin was brought in at some later date, he'd have to be an edgier and darker Robin than we've had before.

Well I think The Dark Knight sets up the third film as Harvey Dent...who is very much a good character and helping Batman near the end gets transdormed into Two Face.....He'll be the big villain then of the third movie....so they probably have even more set to go....personally I would like to see Penguin and Catwoman turn up in later movies

I think the character of Robin will always be associated with the camp colourful 60s era of Batman (holy psychedelic context, Batman).  Just look at Joel Schumacher's Batman and Robin, that didn't do very well, critically did it?  I just think that the very premise of a Robin character would detract the narrative from the sombre, dark atmosphere that Christopher Nolan has created with this new incarnation.

Yep I agree John (hi by the way   ) though I wonder if they went with Robin...or should I say Dick Grayson in a different way....perhaps having him a much darker character too...perhaps out on his own from the beginning and running into Bats who tries to guide him and its more of a gradual thing....perhaps have him seriously frigged up with a much bloodier parents death than we have seen before from previous Robins....

I still think it is a risk though which is why I firmly believe it will never happen

I hope it never happens. Robin was annoying in the comics, let alone the Schumacher films. All the best Batman comics were Robin free.

I can't argue with that Jipdog you are right...Robin was never that great even in the comics and I have to admit to being more interested in the character after Robin (Nightwing)

Nightwing was fine as it was a grown up character, not somebody who was out roaming the streets late at night with weapons. Say, do you think Bob Kane predicted the future?! Bruce Wayne wasn't a great role model, was he? I mean Dick Grayson was in his care and Bruce dragged him round the countryside, kicking the crap out of people!

I think it'd ruin the new cycle of Batman films if Robin was brought back, after all everyone raves about the new 'edgier' Bruce Wayne/Batman. 'Batman Begins' was great without him, and 'The Dark knight' looks even better, again minus Robin. It'd look a bit rubbish to have a brooding Batman with a sidekick in his face throughout!

Bob Kane Predicting the future? in what way do you think that bud??

As for being a role model to Dick Grayson..I suppose there are many ways to look at that...you could argue that Grayson could have continued with a big chip on his shoulder and gone out to kill those responsible for his parents death or those who resemble those particular murderers ...and you could say that Wayne/Batman give him a role model with certain morals and sense of real justice rather than vengence....yeah he was thought to fight but he was also thought to use his head and control along with right and wrong

I agree Morphy but the only thing is I wonder if they went with Robin in a completely different angle ...perhaps not even have him like a sidekick but another character that keeps turning up and have him much darker....personally I don't think it will happen anyway
