|
|
The Sun reports that Victor Pemberton, who invented the Sonic Screwdriver for the 1968 Doctor Who story "Fury From the Deep", is angry the BBC has licensed toy replicas of the gadget (selling at £9.99) without giving him a penny! He said "I'm really upset that the BBC is making a fortune out of something that I invented."
The BBC haven't commented so far.........the least they should do is give him credit for inventing it!

Yeah I agree he should get recognised but if they did that they may have to give him a big share of the profits (which he should be getting) and then you'll start seeing all these others coming in saying oh the Tardis was my original idea or K9 was, etc ...Well I reckon that is the fear from thew BBC anyway _________________

| Maybe the Beeb have it in small print on contracts that people forfeit the rights? I know some firms operate that way....if an employee comes up with a good idea, the firm gets to use the idea without giving them anything, which I think is mean! |

| They should put an "as created by" label on the gadgets so at least his name gets credited somewhere. You're right though Luc, lots of other people would say it was their idea to do such a thing and they invented something else and the BBC would lose millions. |

You would have people saying I designed the head pieces of the Darleks or Cybermen and wanting to claim for all their products too
You do have to laugh in a way at the sonic screw driver idea though....when you think about it......he designed a torch _________________

| I wouldn't mind a torch like that....it can do anything! Doesn't Sarah Jane have a sonic lipstick in her show?! |
