This was on Film Four last night as part of a Steve Martin season. And I quite liked it actually, as its one of his funniest pieces of work. He plays an executive named Neal Page, who is desperate to get home for the Thanksgiving holiday who is left cursing his luck after a series of travel mishaps and coincidental meetings with Del Griffin (John Candy), who he first meets on a plane flight.

The two are forced to become mismatched travel companions as they try to reach their respective families, and grow to resent each other as the journey wears on until they find some common ground and the whole enterprise becomes more bearable.

A funny and novel twist on the buddy movie, with some brilliant lines courtesy of writer/director John Hughes. Overall one of Steve Martin's better films and thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm with you here Morphy I really like this comedy too...its not everyone's cup of tea now  but as you say has some great lines and comedy situations....
I love the scene in the bed....you know.... "They're not PILLOWS!"    and then they start talking about the game
The bit where Martin comes back after discovering his rental car is not there s also extremely clever writing...the whole conversation where he has lost it with the woman behind the counter is brill

Yep good film

In fact it could even be considered Martin's best film in my opinion....
