British actors Alex Kingston and Colin Salmon have joined the stellar line-up of guest stars for the fourth series of BBC One's BAFTA award-winning drama Doctor Who.

Alex Kingston, best known for roles in ER and Moll Flanders, will appear in a Steven Moffat penned two-parter as River Song – a mysterious character who meets The Doctor on an expedition to uncover the secrets of an abandoned library.

She is joined by James Bond regular, Colin Salmon who also stars in the two episodes.

Alex Kingston comments: "I used to watch Doctor Who through the crack in the door. I was so terrified but I couldn't tear myself away. I loved it so much and I'm so delighted to be a part of the new series."

Award-winning actress Catherine Tate is reprising her role as Donna, the runaway bride, and will star as The Doctor's companion throughout the new series alongside David Tennant as The Doctor.

The first episode of the eagerly awaited new series will witness Donna tracking down The Doctor during an alien emergency in modern-day London.

The couple are destined to experience a series of wonderful adventures throughout the series including meeting one of Doctor Who's most popular aliens, The Ood, in a brand new episode, Planet Of The Ood.

Donna and The Doctor will also be travelling through time for an encounter with the legendary murder mystery novelist Agatha Christie and taking a trip to Pompeii.

Further guest stars already confirmed to appear in the new series include Sarah Lancashire, Felicity Kendal, Lesley Sharp, Georgia Moffett, Lindsey Coulson, Fenella Woolgar, Tim McInnerny, Peter Capaldi, Phil Davis and Tracey Childs.

Freema Agyeman who has played Martha Jones, The Doctor's companion throughout the critically-acclaimed third series, will also return to the show to join The Doctor and Donna mid-series.

The fourth series of Doctor Who is now in production and will hit BBC One in Spring 2008.

The producer is Phil Collinson; executive producers are Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales, and Russell T Davies.

Doctor Who is filmed in Cardiff

Apart from the actors which are good to get...what I find ,more exciting is Moffat's (Blink &The Girl in the Fireplace) story which they star about a mysterious abandoned library....very Sapphire and Steel sounding    I hope its as good as Blink now

Blink was one of my favourite Dr Who stories........scary and gripping, so I hope the abandoned library episode is as good   .......and best of all, Dr Who's back on April 5th     not all that long to wait

It was my favourite Dr Who to date babe ...though I did like the Master ones aswell ...well apart from the last bit where it turned into a Care Bears movie

I love the idea of the abandoned library...sounds like it will be creepy

Care Bears movie?!! Which part was that?!!

I'm hoping Catherine Tate will be up to scratch......I'm still not sure about her being the new assistant....

The Care Bears bit? .....when The Doctor was the little creature and the world all united in love to make the Doctor himself again and beat the Master .....it was so like The Care Bears to me and quite a crappy part of the story I thought

Tate I still think was a strange choice to be a constant companion ...I didn't even think she was that popular?

Oh yeah the part where he's stuck in the cage   It did seem a bit far fetched having everyone chanting and feeling the love!

I've never thought much of Catherine Tate......she's totally unfunny to me   but she was ok in the Christmas episode so with any luck she'll be ok as his assistant.

A bit far fetched? It was straight from Rainbow Brite ...I was expecting my little pony to appear from somewhere

I like her comedy show now I just wasn't pushed on her character in Dr Who ...though the last season of her comedy show I didn't think was as good as the one before   I do really like the Gay guy who says "How Very Dare you"

I loved My Little Pony.......they're sooooooo cute!!!

I must admit I didn't watch her show......I'm going off clips and trailers I've seen for it and parts they've shown when she's been nominated for awards......but the bits I've seen never seemed funny....unless they were showing the wrong bits!

I don't ..... they are ugly looking donkeys      I'm only kidding but the ending of Dr Who was very kiddies show like

I think her comedy show babe is one of those things you either really like  or hate...it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea and I will admit not all her sketches hit the mark for me

Apparently Davros and the Sontarans from the old series will be making a return in the next one.
