Reign of Fire: a bizarre film which has many inconsistencies. Such as: why did two A list actors such as Christian Bale and Matthew McConahey decide to be in it?
Anyway, the story is basically the idea that in the near future, dragons have taken over the Earth and there are only a few remaining humans left clinging on to life. Bale is hiding himself and his ‘tribe’ from the dragons, McConahey is leader of a band of dragon slayers, so guess who wins the day? But I did enjoy this film, despite knowing exactly what would happen from the start. It does have some nice touches e.g. Bale and friend entertaining the children with scenes from well known films.

Capricorn One: A conspiracy theory film about what would happen if NASA pretended to send people to Mars.
I could not stop watching this film to the end and I had no idea what that would be [which is important for any film]. Yes, there are big holes in the plot and the tension could have been greatly increased, but generally this is a gripping and engrossing thriller which is well worth watching. I’m very surprised that it didn’t win any awards, especially James Brolin.

Carry on Camping: Oh matron! What can I say? A fun distraction from real life. I am just old enough to remember tents without groundsheets; being able to stop at any house for help without worrying about being murdered; my mum in short dresses like Barbara Windsor; trips on holiday in old rickety seventies cars. A thoroughly enjoyable film.

Brokeback Mountain: At times this was unbearable to watch, partly because of the tragic death of Heath Ledger recently, partly for the sheer heartbreak of the story.
It is not just a story of ‘two gay cowboys who can’t be together’ as some people casually summarise it. It is also the story of the frustrations of life: how people are tied down by what they have to do instead of being able to do what they want to do; how they are never free to be who they really are or be with who they love.
The lives of Ennis and Jack were frustrated, wasted, desperate, but I also felt the pain of those around them who tried to understand but couldn’t. Particularly Ennis’s poor wife Alma, left alone on a ranch to bring up two tiny children alone, while Ennis had to work away from home as a cowboy to bring in the money. Obviously my life isn’t as desperate as that, but I can empathise with her: how many times have I been alone at home after a long day looking after tiny crying Rosebud, putting her to bed, amusing her, while Carlos teaches at evening classes to bring in more money.
I think if people can be tolerant enough to watch this film and look past the subject matter [if that is SO repellent to them!!], they will find something or someone they can relate to in it. I’m sure there is a saying ‘every man lives a life of quiet desperation’ and it is clearly shown here.

Funny I watched Carry on Camping on Sunday aswell ...I hadn't seen it in its entirety in years ...its a great one....I also never realised that Hattie Jacques character was the same one as the Carry on Matron one....I knew they went on similarly but I laughed when she mentions to Kenneth Williams that she used to work in a hospital as a matron and a Doctor she fancied there looked identical to him

I have to say I adore Kenneth Williams I just love his expressions and reactions to things

I also watched a good bit of Reing of Fire too...I didn't realise alot was set in Ireland....it was better than I thought it would be too

I love Capricorn One too though I haven't seen it in a while now...there was talk at one stage K that they were planning to remake it or something but I heard no more about it.....great film and your right it doesn't get the recognition it deserves

Well do you really think I would find two guys fondling one another a great fun time afternoon movie K??

even with two actors I rate quite highly...its just not my thing...and I cringed .....I cringed bad girl!!!

They aren't fondling each other for the whole film, there's hardly any of that at all

It is a film about the frustration and desperation of human life, as you would know, IF you'd read my review properly

I must add here 'so there, Ner, with brass knobs on!'
