Yes, definitely watch it Luc. I didn't know much about Johnny Cash at all, I just thought he was a fat old man, but obviously he had a life, like we all do I always watch these sort of films where people have terrible hardships and think 'what the hell am I moaning about...!'

I think I slightly avoided this film K because my Mother was a huge fan of Johnny Cash so much so in fact that she went to many of his concerts and the Highwaymen ones aswell (he was a member of the Highwaymen) so it was a kind of he wasn't my kind of thing but my mam's  and the fact that he operates as a kind of rememberance now too...but I will definitely watch it soon as I did get the film for one day to watch

I know what you mean too....when you see what these people go through it does kind of put our petty little annoyances, hardships and worries to shame

1 WAITRESS - Heartwarming and charming comedy drama about a waitress (Keri Russell) who works at a diner where her specialities are her home made pies. Married to an abusive husband (Jeremy Sisto) she finds out she is pregnant. With help from her two best freinds she conceals it from him. When she goes to vist her doctor she finds the lady semi-retired and instead comes across new GP (Nathan Filion) she gradually begins to fall for him. Poignant piece it was writer director Adrienne Shelley's last film (she also co-starred as one of Russell's workmates), as she was murdered shortly before the films release. A beautiful whimsical way to spend an hour or two. 9/10

2 SLEUTH - In which Jude Law in his capacity as producer takes on the role of Milo Tindle with Sir Michael Caine as the writer Andrew Wyke. Adapted by Harold Pinter and directed by Kenneth Branagh, it works quite well and certainly is a lot better than Law's previous remake Alfie. A well made, and going by the documentaries on the DVD, and intelligent reworking with Law's best performance since Closer.  7/10

3 THE HAPPENING - This will confound, confuse and irritate you. It will also gladden those critics that have had it in for Shyamalan since The Village. The opening 20 minutes are terrific with some excellent special effects. But once the 'reason' is revealed things take a decidely unintentionally funny slant, where it's really hard to feel sympathy for the characters. A disappointing 4/10

That sounds awful about that Director/Writer of Waitress ..how come I never heard of either the film or the event??    I don't know though if the film would really be my thing but if I ever see it I might give it a go seeing as you give it a 9 bud

I mean't to see Sleuth a while back but never got round to it...its the remake with Caine now playing the older man's role after playing the young man in the old film isn't it? Have you seen the original Nostromo and if so how does this compare?

I actually read many reviews for this film and most are very similar to what you thought Nostromo....the first part is good but then it  falls apart completely and becomes really ludicrous ...I also heard the acting is mean't to be more wooden than the rainforrests

I still want to see The Happening even though it's had bad reviews.....Mark Wahlberg comes in for a lot of flak cause he has the same expression on his face the whole way through

The guy who does the movie reviews on the BBC was saying that although its bad...the silver lining is that Shamalan is sort of back from the travesty of the Lady in the Water (which he really did think was atrocious)

I agree with him about Lady in the Water......I was dying for it to finish

I wonder if The Happening would have worked better with different actors........Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel are ok but don't have a big acting range like some other actors.

The original Sleuth is a different kind of movie. Michael Caine explained it very well in the documentary. The Laurence Olivier character from the first film was an eccentric with murderous tendencies, whereas in the new version Caine is more of a psychopathic dangerous individual. I see them both as very good versions, although both suffer from being adapted from a stage play and in a couple of scenes in both versions it shows. But worth checking out.

As for the 'acting' in The Happening it's Zooey Deschanel who comes off the most wooden, and against Mark Wahlberg that's some feat.

Incidentally if you do happen to catch "Waitress" the late director plays Dawn in the movie.
