I recon you need an aerial booster, I needed one to get the proper reception for freeview if I was using more than one port.

I'm back BTW!

Hey good to see you back Chump

I can watch freeview progs on my TV but as soon as I switch the DVDR on it refuses to recognise freeview...... Looking on the net though lots of people have trouble with set top boxes and digital TVs.

Hi Chump

It does make you wonder doesn't it Cat, how they can justify rushing through digital when it still doesn't work properly!! I think the NW is moving over to it at the moment. There was a map on telly the other day and we're due in 2012 (same as you Luc) woohoo!! Even longer away than I thought!

When you use your DVD thingy, does that mean you record onto a DVD then, like you would a tape? I know a lot of people have that where you tape on your TV, if you know what I mean, which I personally think is crap cause then you can't watch it in another room if you want to. A friend of mine used to do that with Smallville and then copy it onto a video for me but the picture always came out funny and squished up and then I had to turn the volume up really loud to be able to hear it. Progress, I don't think so!!!

I bought my digital TV because of all the warnings about analogue being turned off completely by 2012. I was going to buy one with freeview already built in to it but the picture on the non- freeview one looked better so that's the one I bought. After all the probs I've been having, I'm glad I didn't get the one with freeview in it, it's bad enough with the set top box!

The DVDR has a hard drive so the progs can be stored on to that or on to DVD (I think!)......I'm not very technical I'm afraid

Hi Chump welcome back mate

A dvd recorder works the same more or less to a video one when you press record it will record the channel displayed...its on the playback that it differs and becomes alot handier it creates like a menu system on the
disc so you just have to click on individual windows which displays the different recordings you have made and it goes instantly to the recording of choice...no more searching through tapes looking for that programme
It is also much easier to visually fast forward and rewind too and of course freeze frame for those special Garak and Malcolm moments

On the bad side you can't just record anywhere like you can on a tape...for example if you left a tape recording five minutes after a film you can then rewind it back to the end credits and start recording something new directly after them on a dvd recording if you record five mins after a film your stuck with them (well with most basic dvd
recorders anyway)

As for your friend Honey he obviously used a scart lead to record from dvd to video it seriously reduces the sound and even the picture...usually makes it much darker too

Yep I have a dvdr aswell Cat its a great job.....it saves having to go looking for discs and you can just save loads of programmes or films on the hard drive....which you can then put unto disc if you so wish
