Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem directors Greg and Colin Strause spoke to MTV News
they apparently distanced themselves from the original AVP saying "The studio knew that, although the last movie made a lot of money, it didn't really resonate solidly with the fans. To get the same people back into the theater a second time, it was gonna be a bit of an uphill battle."
They also never met with AVP director Paul Anderson citing "I don't think anyone wanted us to talk to him. This movie works even if you didn't see [Anderson's]... We really have to prove to the fans that this movie's gonna be very different from the last one."
The pair also speak of the R-rating, confirming a kid painfully and graphically dies onscreen via a chest burster alien. The Predalien hybrid kills a lot of Predators early in the film, and essentially serves as the 'Alien Queen' in this entry.
"I'd like to do another one (A Sequel) but I'd like to do it in space. The next one either has to be more of the bridge after this and before 'Alien,' or you could do something after 'Aliens. We have a pretty finite ending to this, but we have a cliffhanger per se; it's a setup" says Greg.

This I have to admit has me a little intrigued to see what they do with it

Yep, this has got me interested. I didn't think the first AVP movie was all that bad, but it could've been better. This looks more promising.

I know they don't count for anything but, I read a few reviews and they all pretty much say it's worse than the first one. Empire went as far to say it's almost a certainty for worst film of the year already, and if a film is worse than this, then it would be special. I still will be going to see it this afternoon, though. In fact, the bad reviews work in my favour. Each time a film I want to see gets universally bad reviews, I go into the cinema/rental shop with lowered expectations. As I'm already thinking the film is going to be total Howard the Duck, I normally end up enjoying it more than I would have. Hope that works for when I hire Highlander: The Source at the weekend. Anyway, I shall post my thoughts on the film when I get time and try not to put spoilers up (not that there will be many twists to spoil, loads of people die, D-list actors can't act, etc.).

Great stuff Jipdog I'd be interested to hear your review now on the film as I have also read some bad ones for it now.
By the way are any of the Highlander series/films any good? I just could never get my head around some other McCloud running around   . But they must be very popular...am I missing out there?

Right, here goes. I wasn't a big fan of the original AVP. It had promise, but it lacked a lot. The second one is an improvement and the shift to a darker tone is welcome, but something is still missing. Yes, the characters are flat, but that was expected. I know that Alien was essentially a slasher movie in space, but this felt more like Friday the 13th than an Alien or a Predator film. As with the first film, there didn't seem to be enough Alien on Predator action (no, not in that sense! Dirty people!), and the human charcters at some points do seem to have come in from an episode of The O.C. The Aliens and Predator themselves don't look quite right and some scenes the Aliens look a little cheap. Despite the negative comments, I did enjoy it. Ok, it doesn't have the suspense of Alien or the emotional heft or action of Aliens or the wanton destruction of Predator (lets face it, you weren't expecting something close to those classics were you?), but it is a very enjoyable turn-your-brain-off-for-an-hour-and-a-half film. Go and see on a Saturday night 3/5.

Luc, I'm a big fan of Highlander, even though they do have tremendous flaws (There Can Be Only One, kind of has no meaning after the first film, let alone the TV series). I assume you have seen the first one? If you enjoyed that then you will be on pretty familliar ground with the rest. I'll just give you my brief thoughts on the rest.

Highlander 2: The Quickening - Often cited as the worst sequel of all time and you can see the argument. The whole storyline contradicts the original. Most people say avoid completely, but I would say approach with caution. On the whole, it is pap, but there are some genuinely entertaining scenes in there (best one being Macleod and Ramirez comparing bullet wounds in a mortuary). 2/5.

Highlander 3: The Sorcerer - Pretty much a re-make of the first. There are some plot strands that tie in neatly with the first. Not much else to say as it covers the same ground almost as the first. 3/5.

Highlander Endgame - First sequel proper. You would have to watched episodes of the TV series first know who everybody is. After only getting a brief glimpse of the 2 Macleod's together in the pilot episode, you finally get a decent adventure with them both in. 4/5.

Highlander the Series - Normally tv spin-offs of cult films are complete dump, but this is an exception. Most episodes are standalone with the occassional multi-episodes. They are currently shown on FX on sky, but if you don't have sky, then they are available on region 1 but it could prove expensive if you end up thinking they're plop. 5/5

Highlander: The Raven - Never got into this. A tv series based on an occasional reoccuring character was not a good idea and it was axed after 22 episodes. 2/5.

Highlander the Animated Series - I think the title explains it all. A tea time kids animation based on a series of films where people go round lopping heads off doesn't translate well for pre Blue Peter viewing. Somehow, pointing a sword at somebody gaining their quickening kind of loses something. 1/5.

Highlander: The Search For Vengence - Still yet to see this anime that was released last year. When I pick it up I will give you my thoughts on it.

I hope that was some help to you Luc. If you decide to start viewing Highlander, let me know what you think.

Great review mate    thanks.....I'll check it out now

And sorry Jipdog I probably should have clarified I have seen the first three films of Highlander....I adore the first movie its a classic in my eyes but the others I thought were not a patch. I also agree the second film was bad but I wouldn't say the worst sequel ever now...though its up there   .
I really mean't the tv films (I think I may have seen some dvd or video covers of the tv series and thought they were tv movies) and the tv series itself....I had heard of the Raven one now too..wasn't that like a female version or something? I didn't know about the animated series though   .
If I get a chance to catch the series I'll let you know mate...thanks for the heads up you fairly know your stuff on Highlander
