oohhhh saucy cat its a good job we don't have any double meaning talk here isn't it
Funny i'm not a big christmas cake or pudding lover though i used to love making them..... my parents used to make them when i was young and then i used to help my mother with it ...... if the pudding cracked or broke at all there would be serious annoyance in my house .... my parents where quite superstitious like that and it was apparently bad luck _________________

You'd find a double meaning in anything Luc
Oh I haven't heard about the cracked pud superstition before.....is it an Irish thing or a family thing? Did they put money in the pud too? I know it was a tradition to put money in but it's a wonder people didn't choke on it! |

I know some people used to put money in it, don't know why though- surely it would be classed as a health and safety violation today! _________________ The Dark Side is a pathway to many abilities, some considered to be..unnatural. |

No not in the pudding...the only time my mother used to put money in anything was at Halloween and she would put some in Apple tarts she made.....I used to be ages with a fork poking into it to see where it was
Its an old tradition here about the Xmas pudding and it cracking or breaking leading to bad luck...its old wives tales but my parents took it seriously _________________

That'll be the next thing on the health and safety hit list Morphy! They'll probably say people could choke or the coins have germs on them and say people can only use chocolate coins in the pudding, as long as they take the foil paper off of course
Did you ever find the money in the apple tarts Luc or was it a cunning plan to get you eating it all up?! I'll read up about the Xmas pud tradition to see if other people do/did that too! I know there's the Stir Up Sunday tradition where you make the pud and get the family to stir it for good luck.....but I didn't know about the cracked pud old wives tale! |

Superstitious people
Some of them probably date from Medieval times and other superstitions have been added on over the years! |

more times than not actually Cat i used to find the money in the tart.. ..if my father knew the money was in his slice he'd subtely ask me (well not very subtely now when i think back ) to investigate someting strange on his plate and i would get it then aswell
As for health and safety it just wasn't a coin thrown in...it would be wrapped in tin foil
oh and you see that stirring of the pudding....we all used to line up to do that..it was not only superstition but tradition in my house the weeks before christmas
