| The rumour is it''ll be Ray Winstone and Jason Statham as Regan and Carter.......I can see Ray Winstone in the role but Statham?.....I'll have to think about it! |

Actually I can see him in the role.....he has a tough guy look aswell and in fairness Dennis Waterman was no walkover either in the Sweeney _________________

| There's a chance of him appearing tougher than Ray Winstone though........with Thaw and Waterman, you always felt Thaw was the tougher of the two! |

I read this lately....
Fox Searchlight has stopped production on the $16 million feature film version of 70's British cop show "The Sweeney" reports Variety.
The reason? Concerns about its international prospects as the film had yet to land a big name cast member and awareness of the show outside the UK is very limited.
John Thaw and Dennis Waterman starred in the classic show about a London police unit dedicated to fighting violent crime. With salty dialogue and tough action scenes, it invented the blueprint for gritty UK cop dramas and was a major inspiration for the recent and highly acclaimed series "Life on Mars".
Thesps being considered for the main roles of a seasoned detective and his younger partner in the film version were Ray Winstone and the up-and-coming Michael Fassbender ("300," "Hunger"). DNA Films had been set to start lensing in the next few weeks.
Rather than continue with pre-production, Fox and DNA mutually agreed to step back and wait but still hope to go into production next year. Cult writer-director Nick Love remains attached to direct
Rather disappointing really I was looking forward to hearing more about this project _________________

I thought it was strange when I first read about it....Ray Winstone's a big name star so who do they want instead of him? It's almost as if the studio didn't want to do the film in the first place. Just because it's based on a well known British tv show doesn't mean it won't appeal to people outside Britain. |

Yep it was the lasst reason in the world I thought I would hear for the movie being put on hold...the fact they want bigger stars
And the popularity of it surely had to be thought of before they started thinking about making it and lining up Winstone?? _________________

I hope they don't get someone like Brad Pitt to put on an English accent and be Regan....but I wouldn't be surprised if they did |
