Anyone who was a fan of the old tough 70's police drama will be delighted to hear that they are making a movie set for release in 2009.
British Director and Writer Nick Love is at the helm of this project and is already in talks with Ray Winstone to take on the role of Detective Inspector Jack Regan a role made famous by John Thaw in the original series ...there is still no word on who will play D.S. George Carter (The Dennis Waterman role) It is also not clear whether the movie will be set in the 1970's
I do have to say though if anyone can take on the role of Regan its Winstone...it would be a great casting!

| I can definitely see Ray Winstone as Regan......he was born to play him! Lots of snarling and sneering.....perfect! |

Yeah it will be interesting to see who they will get to play the Dennis Waterman part and more importantly will the get him
TO WRITE THEME TUNE SING THEME TUNE  (I did that in that high pitched voice by the way)

 Danny Dyer's said Ray Winstone won't be in it cause he's too busy doing films like Indiana Jones......he thinks Nick Love's after Paul Bettany for the role instead.
Ray Winstone would have been soooooo good.... |

Paul Betthany??   Not who I thought would be right fior the role at all....Winstone was much better

I think Danny Dyer must have got it wrong 
I can kind of see Bettany for the Dennis Waterman part but definitely not for Regan |

Yeah for the Waterman part he would be good now but as you say not the other role...he just doesn't look the part

I just read this.... 
Ray Winstone plans to star in a movie remake of the 1970s TV police classic 'The Sweeney'.
On this week's 'Friday Night with Jonathan Ross', 'The Departed' star talks about reprising the role of Jack Regan, played by the late John Thaw.
Speaking on the show Winstone says: "I loved John Thaw... I was in the original 'Sweeney' as an extra [as a 17-year-old], just straight after drama college. It was a big show."
He adds: "[The new film] has the feel about it that the show had, it's really well-written. If it all works out I'd love to do it."
