What Shall We Do With the PC Crap?

A ROW erupted last night after a charity removed all references to booze from the song What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor?

Government-funded Bookstart changed the 1891 sea shanty’s main character from “drunken sailor” to “grumpy pirate”.

Libraries across Britain have been sent revised song sheets with What Shall We Do With The Grumpy Pirate — to be used by parents and kiddies at council-run “baby bounce and rhyme” sessions.

Lines such as “Keelhaul him and pass the bottle” and “Round with the rum and scotch and whisky” are replaced by “Do a little jig and make him smile” and “Tickle him till he starts to giggle”.

But yesterday parents hit out at the change. Caroline Graham, 29, attended a session with her son Jacob, two, at her local library in Rainham, Kent.

She said: “I don’t know why they bother.

“It’s clearly meant to be politically correct but surely children that young can’t be offended by a nursery rhyme. It’s pathetic, really.”

Karen Sanders, 34, also went to a session with her little girl Clara, one.

She said: “I sang it when I was growing up and I don’t think it did me any harm.

“It seems silly to change the lyrics — everyone laughs at the image of a drunken sailor.”

Nick Seaton of the Campaign for Real Education said: “It is trying to rewrite the history and tradition of this country.

“Organisations like Bookstart should know better.”

Katherine Soloman of Bookstart — an initiative run by independent arts charity Booktrust — said: “Some might think this is political correctness but the words were changed to fit in with a pirate theme we had.”

SOME MIGHT SAY....SOME MIGHT SAY.... SOME MIGHT SAY IT BECAUSE THEY ARE SPOT ON LADY!!!!

This is just more pc craziness that we just seem to constantly hear these days
Catnapper

Why do the pc lot have to keep interfering.....it makes my blood boil    I can remember singing it at my primary school and I didn't become an alcoholic........in fact, I HATE rum, scotch and whisky! It's just a fun song for kids to sing and dance along to and they wouldn't understand the lyrics anyway

There's got to be something wrong with people who always look for supposedly "bad" or "offensive" things all the time
Emperor Morphetine

This just takes the biscuit- the PC brigade are infiltrating everything! It beggars belief that they can object to a traditional rhyme, will they not rest until everything is changed to suit them?
Lucifer_666

it is complete madness in my mind and it just seems to get worse and worse...it gets to a stage where you don't know what you can say and what you can't
Emperor Morphetine

Well, it does seem to be getting to the point where you don't know what's wrong or right any more given so many changes in society......
Scorpio

they implement change, to justify their jobs - period

w@nkers
Lucifer_666

I do tend to agree with you both there and it does seem to be about keeping people in jobs or making people seem/feel more important...

what I do know... is that it is getting out of hand
Emperor Morphetine

Its a real problem, seems to be running rampant lately though which is sad to see.
Lucifer_666

We won't be able to say the simplest things soon
Catnapper

Did you see in the paper the other day about Tesco having to apologise because one of their assistants called some customers animals?! What happened was the assistant was reducing the price of some goods which were near their sell by date......a crowd of people surrounded her and she said they were animals..... I don't know if she said it in a joking way or not but someone complained and Tesco had to say sorry! Someone will always look for anything to complain about these days....it'll get to the point where we'll all be afraid of saying anything in case someone takes it the wrong way
Jipdog

I for one, am not going to stop speaking my mind for fear of being un-pc. I have done it for the past 10 years at work and I'm still there. If someone is being a complete tosser, I let them know, be they punter or management. No prejudice is involved. If your a tosser, it's down to your personality, not skin colour, where your from etc. I will not let a small group of people with too much time on their hands, trying to justify their jobs while others (who are hard working) are loosing theirs. Political Correctness is ok up to a point, but if somebody has called a group of people animals for acting like animals, then I think they are well within their right to call them that. If the person who complained about being called an animal doesn't like it, then I have a suggestion: DON'T LEAVE YOUR FECKING CAVE, YOU ANIMAL!!!!!
Catnapper

Well said Jip
Lucifer_666

 Yeah I second that.. ..

what a crazy thing.... its madness that people get offended over absolutely nothing... a good kick up the arse is what they need if you ask me

Lucifer_666

Its crazy K I agree but not really surprising that we have kids that see adults as a threat or dubious after all not only are they been brought up like this but everything they see in the media tells them to be like this towards older people ....it is madness

though Just to give perhaps other explanations of why this may have happened or maybe play devil's advocate

Perhaps....

He fancies you and had to cover a vital area of his anatomy with his school bag when you touched him

He is been seen as the teacher's pet by other students who would give a hard time to him afterwards

Or Both of the above

Can we really give out considering its the other way round too.... we adults see young people similarly as in .....Hoodies or groups of kids are trouble  (I also think this is wrong too but its out there)

And lastly If it was a 40 year old male teacher and female teen that got patted on her shoulder (on her bra strap )..would that be okay??
Emperor Morphetine

It does seem a tad far fetched though don't you think? Its a perfectly innocent gesture, and if people are so intent on pandying to the PC brigade leave them to it- don't let them claim you!

Emperor Morphetine

It all beggars belief- damn PC overkill!
Catnapper

It could be that he's a typical teenager who doesn't like the slightest physical contact with anyone remotely older than him

I agree it's all getting too far fetched and I should imagine it's even worse if you work in a school......some pupils make false accusations just to stir things up or get back at a teacher.

Emperor Morphetine

Damn right, support assistants deserve better- for what they do they aren't given near enough recognition.
Catnapper

All kids should be taught respect and the kid who's stirring things up should be reprimanded by the head teacher. You wouldn't mind the "ooh teacher's pet" type of jokey comment, but if the kid's trying to make it seem pervy or sexual in nature, then he should be told off.
big aundy

round the bike shed and gee him a kicking . that'll teach him
Catnapper

I can't see K doing that
big aundy

well K is needing to be tough and whoop some butt

I would if I could, as this forum's resident master of the Dark Side they would recieve a solid Force choking......
Lucifer_666

Your not serious about them hinting to you about behind the bike sheds
I wouldn't have it K I'd tell them out straight you won't tolerate it
and that you find it uncomfortable and let them know it'll be the end of it.. ...perhaps it was a one off joke K? I don't know but if it was an underlining thing i would be nipping it in the bud now

Really??     thats shocking K

Oh and on a side note..... you must be gorgeous or have big boobs or something??       All those young impressionable boys lusting after you     peryhaps you put on Impulse spray every day?

Lucifer_666

Try and chill K     i'm not another nasty teen alright

"I was disappointed in your reply about the big boobs etc...."

I'm disappointed that you are taking my jokey remarks so seriously and literally K

And why do my views or comments on feminism result in you feeling defensive??

And why are you taking out all your anger on me???

Anyway....i hope you get things sorted out soon
K

Sorry, I was not meaning to take all my anger out on you. I think what I shall do is delete my posts, as really I shouldn't be talking about this sort of thing on an internet forum- someone could come along and accuse me of doing something wrong, or someone involved in this situation could find the posts. You have to be so careful if you work with kids, that you don't get accused of doing something wrong.
Lucifer_666

Fair enough K..hopefully things will sort themselves out,,,i'm sure they will
Catnapper

I always feel sorry for anyone who's involved with teaching kids these days. Granted, most children are fine and behave...but all it needs is for 1 kid to say a teacher hit them, or touched them (even if it was a pat on the back or any other innocent gesture) and a teacher's career could be ruined...all because 1 child likes making trouble.
Lucifer_666

It is a disturbing development in the last ten years or so that you
now can have certain kids blackmail not just teachers but there own
parents with threats of phoning childline or lying to other authorities

Emperor Morphetine

A scandal is what it is!
Catnapper

It was on the news about teachers having more powers to deal with unruly kids.....about time too!
Lucifer_666

when i heard these new guidelines for schools earlier  i was saying to myself i thought theses rules were already implemented (i watch Waterloo road       ) for example a separate classroom for the unruly like a sin-bin and i had to laugh this evening yteachers are giving out ...that these guidelines offer nothing new and no extra power to schools
Catnapper

One teacher said pupils were gloating when they were sent to the sin bin cause they got out of the other class! I see some schools have even employed bouncers.....with some schools, the SAS would be more appropriate
Emperor Morphetine

The elderly might say 'give the little hellions a taste of National Service!'
Catnapper

You sometimes see readers letters in the paper suggesting exactly that!
Emperor Morphetine

Not surprising really is it? Those of a certain age think its the solution to most problems!
Lucifer_666

yep lets train some troublesome kids how to shoot guns and kil people in hand to hand combat
Emperor Morphetine

At least if there was a real use for them as soldiers they might not necessarily be killing their own countrymen.....
Catnapper

They're starting younger too......a 7 year old threatened a 10 year old with a knife the other day
Emperor Morphetine

That is saddening, very sad indeed.
Catnapper

They can't even charge him either cause he's deemed too young to know what he's doing
Emperor Morphetine

Lucifer_666

no but that young and i think the parents should be....well maybe not just for threatening but most definitely for bodily harm
Emperor Morphetine

It's shocking really.
Lucifer_666

And scary too....
Emperor Morphetine

You've got that right, society is all the poorer in some ways these days....
Catnapper

You have to wonder what goes on in people's minds these days........it said in the paper the other day that a 12 year old girl took a neighbour's dog out for a walk, then proceeded to kick and stamp on it   Another neighbour filmed the attack and said it went on for about 10 mins......I wondered why he didn't try and stop the girl....but he would probably have ended up in trouble too for restraining her   In fact, I'm surprised he wasn't reported for filming her in the first place with the way everything's so pc these days.
Emperor Morphetine

Nadgers to the PC brigade I say.
Lucifer_666

imagine if that neighbour handed in her phone and was then charged with s&m paedophilia

As for that 12 year old she should spend her remaining teen years poopie scooping......poop scoop till you like it you horrible little brat!!!!
Emperor Morphetine

Or sentence her to long term community punishment at Battersea Dogs Home or the RSPCA and let dogkind claim its revenge, there's an alternative!
Lucifer_666

 both are acceptable to me
Emperor Morphetine

Now I can just imagine a 'Gladiator' type scene with the rotter left to fend for herself against a pack of feral hounds- just desserts I'd say.
