Video Game Ratings?

Oh brother here we go again...kids need to be protected further from videogames....bloomin hell    even though there is no direct links at all to violence and videogames the experts are advising the Government that new ratings neeed to be implemented in videogames to prevent kids from seeing anything violent or sexual because if they do its going to turn them into little freddie Wests where they go around killing everyone....its so stupid...it reminds me of years ago when they use to say that watching porn led to rape....and I can guarantee you most kids that are violently causing trouble and are messing around with guns are the types that you wouldn't normally see playing videogames...in fact you could argue if they were in playing them they mightn't be outside causing trouble    But the Government are far too eager to jump on this and enforce the recommendations  simply because they know lots of people see videogames as bad and it looks good for them....they are so transparent its sickening!!

It'll stop kids being allowed to buy those kind of games from shops I suppose  but it won't stop them from watching at home if older brothers/sisters or parents buy them. The Government have probably been under pressure to bring the age limit in but I can't see it making much difference. If kids want to watch these kind of games then they'll find a way of doing so.

for gods sake , when will they just shut up and leave the kids alone ,  i mean whne i was younger the first 2 resident evil games came out , and silent hill as well , yeah there violent and all , but what a bnout tekken and other beat em ups , they are also promoting violence they gonna ban them as well
Lucifer_666

The funny part is Cat is that there is already ratings on games but they want to introduce a 12 rating but if its like films years ago kids will still be able to buy them or rent them I know when I was a kid I could rent anything even the movies over 18 and it did me no harm....well not really

And yep Sta how do distinguish which promotes violence or bad behaviour? chances are it will ultimnately summed up by the amount of blood shown so games like Tekken will probably be bypassed while games like GTA and Resident Evil will be seen as big dangers.....its silly really
lord vader

it's totally stupid man , they should leave it up to the parents , as in the end , they will know , what there kids are like , and they will know if they are gonna go out and go on a killing spree if they play a game , or just sit there chilled and and play the games nae bothe r.

I agree with you Sta...of course you will get the odd child that may be influenced by a game when they go off and do something violent but the truth is there is many influences that could also do this...they could read a book and be influenced to kill....but this shouldn't mean we then ban books for everyone else or make it even more difficult to buy or access them

It was on the news tonight.......a mother said she bought her son an 18 videogame for Christmas (I think he was about 12) because he asked for it! I don't think ratings make much difference with parents like that!
Lucifer_666

The thing is though I don't think some ten year old getting his hands on a 15 or 18 cert game is really going to damage him or her....15 or 18 films didn't harm me and as long as they know that it is just a game and not real I think its okay...they really make far too big of deals of certain things like this if you ask me....and there is no proof that says that videogames provoke or increase violence in kids. My nephew plays certain games going by these people he probably shouldn't be playing but he's grand...he knows they are games and you an't do these things in real life
lord vader

thats her own fault cat , if he is 12 he should not be allowed and is parents should not be buying rated 18 games .
Catnapper

Yeah Andy you'll always get parents not bothering what their kids watch or giving in to their kids demands.

To be honest, and I know you'll disagree with me Luc   ....I wouldn't let a child of mine watch games aimed at the over 18s. I know some kids could handle seeing violent scenes and it wouldn't make them go out on a killing spree but, like you said Luc, it depends on them realising they're games and that if you shoot someone in real life they stay dead and don't come back to life again like in a game where you can start all over again.

The danger too is letting kids watch games for hours on end without any socialising with other people.........they get so wrapped up in the games that everything seems real.
Lucifer_666

You dare disagree with me babe?     .....

I see very little difference in this than when I was 7 or 8 watching Rambo..it did not invoke me to go on the war path and kill all around me and it does not cause children to do that either today....

As for kids staying in playing these games and not socialising with others...its these socialisers that gather on street corners that appear threatening or are causing the actual trouble to the rest of us
Catnapper

Hey it's good to disagree sometimes Luc.....don't you agree?!

Did you see in the paper today that shops can be fined £5000 or face 6 months in jail now for selling violent games to underage kids? How do they make sure they're underage in the first place? Even with the age classifications on games kids will still watch them somehow.

Do you mean the film Rambo or a game Luc?
Lucifer_666

I mean't the film which was extremely violent, bloody and over 18 because it apparently will harm those younger than that age.....rubbish..I was watching horror movies at 6 or 7 like The Omen...didn't harm me....I just think I'm Lucifer now

It is good to disagree babe...its boring if everyone agreed all the time

As for a six month jail sentence thats madness....the kids doing the damned crimes and shootin gs aren;'t even getting that    Just shows how mad society is today
lord vader

aye blame the goverment , it's all there fault , friggin bams
