Venom Film?IESB reports that Marvel Studios is gearing up for a film spin-off featuring "Spider-Man" villain Venom, and has already met with "several A-list writers" about the project.
The studio signed an interim agreement with the WGA the other week allowing them to continue developing scripts for projects, and retains the rights to the character despite his appearance in Sony's highly profitable but critically mixed "Spider-Man 3".
No word if actor Topher Grace will reprise his role or if Sam Raimi will be involved though both are unlikely.
I find this a shocking development Will this be about introducing Carnage unto the big screen? I just didn't feel he was that developed of a character to warrant a film of his own? Now I have stopped reading Spidey comics a long time now so maybe they have advanced his character and made him more complex than I remember but really how much more can you add? In saying that I love Venom...I just feel this may stretch it a bit ....but what do others think??

Well I am starting to warm to the idea to be honest..... particularly as my little nephew jumped for joy at the news

Read this lately....
It looks like the gooey parasite from "Spider-Man 3" might jump off Topher Grace and onto a bigger star.
Sony commissioned a script by Jacob Estes (“Mean Creek”) for "Venom" but is apparently seeking a new writer to pursue a new direction following the explosive successes of Paramount’s “Iron Man” and Warner Bros.’ “The Dark Knight.”
Hollywood vets have vivid recollections of “Venom” movies being developed long before the first big-screen “Spider-Man” production got underway.
I didn't realise that there was thoughts of a Venom movie before even Spiderman 1 happened

I wonder what bigger star they mean?
I like the idea of a Venom movie......the more comicbook movies the better

Villains always make compelling characters, I love finding out the reasons they turn bad! I know in this case the symbiote merged with Eddie Brock but it would be cool to find out what Venom is up to after the events of the third Spiderman film.

I think they may bring Carnage into the venom movie who is basically venom's off spring that first joins with a crazed serial killler and is much worse than Venom who still has some good in him due to first joining with Peter Parker

As for a bigger star babe I suppose anyone other than Topher Grace...I have to say I did think he was a kind of strange choice for Brock in the 3rd movie...as long as it ain't Nic Cage
Not like the idea of finding out about Venom Jipdog??

Carnage too? Nice!

Wouldn't mind a Venom movie, Luc, if it's done in the right way. What I was aiming at was that Venom was so poorly done in Spiderman 3, that he would be hanging his head in shame at the embarasment he had become. I didn't think it possible to make Venom crap and camp but, hey, Sam Raimi had to go and prove me wrong!

Do you really think Venom in the 3rd movie was that bad mate? I think myself he could have been done better but I still enjoyed him in it

I thought it was cool when the symbiote first bonded with Brock, and Venom's fight scenes with Spiderman were good. I'd like to see him and maybe Carnage cause some havoc!

He just didn't feel right.

Well, it was showing the early stages of what would become Venom to start with. Hopefully he'll be more advanced should this new film ever come out.
