There's been a lot in this week's papers about alleged UFO sightings in Shropshire and parts of Wales. So called 'experts' on the subject are saying they should be investigated, and the people who saw them claim that they were definitely alien craft and proof that there is life on other planets.

But sceptics have dismissed it all as cases of mistaken identity with other objects, and I'm inclined to go along with that as I don't think aliens exist. But its a quirky story and it'll be interesting to see how it develops. After all as they once said on the X-Files 'the truth is out there'

In today's paper it said people connected with the Doctor Who prog have denied it was anything to do with them because they weren't filming at the time

It does seem strange with so many sightings lately. There were even hundreds of sightings over Liverpool too! I just wish we could have proper pics of UFOs instead of the long distance blobs in the sky we usually get

I'd imagine it would take high tech gadgets of some description to get proper professional quality pictures of them but all the same some concrete evidence would be good as I'd imagine the majority of those who read about the alleged appearances of the craft are a tad sceptical. So unless something changes and we're shown an actual part of one I remain unconvinced, and 'Life On Mars' will continue to be just the title of a David Bowie song and a TV series!

They must be very shy aliens cause we get all these UFO sightings but never any reports of face to face encounters with aliens here on earth!

question: why defy physics to get her from another galaxy millions of light years away, just to scare some old lady in a field; not very logical is it?

in my opinion there is multiple planets supporting life (there has to be) among the billions in our universe..............but travelling here unannounced seems ludicrous

So many people have seen UFOs it makes you wonder what they've actually seen.......we've had soldiers, police and airline pilots reporting sightings as well as ordinary people......surely they can't all be wrong?

i just think that when we finally find alien life out there, will we announce our arrival after going through all of the pains to get there?; so why would'nt they?

Because perhaps Scorpio we weren't the first aliens or planet they have encountered....maybe they are old hands now at discovering new species so they are not like us now or in the near future but more advanced and so their journey here was not so painful and more like a walk in the park for them.....

I think many of the scientists and wisemen of the day do believe that there has to be numerous life elsewhere as there is undoubtable so many planets out there..so I reckon it may not be as far fetched to think it is possible bud....

Can you imagine if we did recieve an alien species ....it would completely change everything in our world.....

there's got to be life out there; whether they have mastered warping space is a different matter though

our solar system takes years to travel across (lifetimes) - compared to our galaxy it is like a compact disc (our solar system) sitting next to an object the size of our planet (our galaxy - the milky way) and our galaxy is a mid sized galaxy among billions within our universe...................millions upon millions of light years away; meaning that the only way to travel is through worm holes and rips in space (whatever way alien life do i suppose)

According to today's papers more sightings have now been reported, in Basingstoke and as far afield as Australia. Could be a case for Mulder and Scully....

Its an interesting one- I think this is either coincidence or a large scale, meticulously planned prank, I'm decidedly cynical on the prospect of a real alien invasion as yet. But should I bump into one I may just change my mind

You see in my opinion its these sightings that don't do the sensible, realistic but also believers any favours because the majority who see these UFOs are always like weird people or southern American farmers in pick up trucks (who are also weird)

I've got a theory......Will Smith's been in the UK for a few weeks and you suddenly get all these UFOs......coincidence, or pay back time for Independence Day?!

There's been another sighting......a Royal Navy aircraft engineer spotted a circular disc with an antenna on the back, hovering over the M5 on Sunday night

He works with aircraft and he grew up next to Manchester airport so he says he knows what a plane lloks like.....and it wasn't a plane

With all the recent sightings and with him saying it had an antenna......it crossed my mind maybe it was a model UFO and someone was playing a joke?

Yeah, you do find that once a story breaks some people will do anything to get involved. Though I have to say I loved The Sun's mock 'invasion' with men in alien suits walking around Cardiff, that was funny!

Think of it all from this point of view: don't think Human. When I was at School we kept being told that such and such planet can't support life. When questioned you would be told "because there is no water or oxygen" etc. My argument to this would usually be something along the lines of: "So? Your thinking from a Human point of view. Your basing whether or not there is life on planet A because it doesn't contain what WE need to live. If a lifeform was to come from that planet then it would not need water or oxygen as it indiginous to a planet that has none. We may not understand HOW it lives, but you cannot rule out the possibility that it COULD. It's only sheer Human arrogance that creates the assumption that all life must be like life on our planet. If there are aliens out there, they may very well be mystified as to how life is sustained on Earth."

The same goes for Space travel really. Just because we can't travel at x speed or travel y distance doesn't mean to say a technologically advanced race couldn't, because they would be just that: TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED!

People have problems with trying to think out of the box like that. I do believe there are lifeforms out there. There is a lot of evidence out there to suggest there is life out there (and I don't mean crazy hicks who have taken hazy pictures from a distance).

It could well be if there are aliens out there they'd exist under different conditions than us. They could have totally different elements on their planets that we don't even know about and that's why they haven't landed on Earth because they can't acclimatise to our conditions.......yet

For anyone interested in UFOs, there's a prog on Channel 5 tonight (July 2nd)...........it's called Britain's Closest Encounters and it's a 4 part series starting at 8pm.

I agree there's got to be some form of life out there......we shouldn't be so arrogant to think we're the only ones living in such a vast universe.

Oo err, its all getting a bit like 'Carry On Flicking'! As for whether or not other life exists I think there is a possibility we aren't alone in the universe but it'll take actual proof for me to come around to the idea of something existing out there in the stars.
