Two Weird Horrors: The Baby & Vampire Circus

Its amazing what you will watch when unable to sleep
I caught two horrors that were shown lately on telly...the first one was one I never heard of before it was a 1973 film called 'The Baby' Its basically about a social worker Ann Gentry who has recently lost her husband in an accident begins investigating a strange family called the Wadsworth and they are weird....they consist of two grown up daughters ....one quite sadistic actually but neither are little bo peeps.... then you have the Mother played by Ruth Roman who looks like she could star in a remake of 'Whatever Happens to Baby Jane' and play both parts   but the weirdest part of this freaky family unit is the baby...who gets fed by bottle and wears nappies....oh and I guess I should mention he's also 21 years of age   Yes Baby (the just call him baby) is apparenty mentally disabled but Ann believes he isn't and that the Mother has kept him trapped in this infant state through fear and punnishment and lack of stimulation and of course she is right...its just one of those films you have got to see for yourself...its not scary even though it ranks itself as a horror in fact I found myself laughing at alot of the plot turns and twists and for some reason the film makers decided to add a babys crys and voice over for the grown up actor playing Baby which in itself is quite funny to see

Next up was Vampire Circus now I had seen this Hammer film before when I was a kid so I did vaguely remember it but it was good to see it again    however it is another weird film...it basically starts with a horde of villagers killing this quite camp looking vampire (he looked like Marc Almond or the guy who plays Pontius Pilot in Jesus Christ Superstar   )that has been plaguing them...before he dies he issues a curse to them that all their children will die to bring him life...We fast forward many years and the village which has been quarantined due to disease outbreaks welcomes the arrival of a traveling circus....and yes it is more of a freak show then circus with a clown faced twisted dwarf...some weird twins and freaky guy who keeps turning into a black panther...oh and David 'Darth Vader' Prowse is the strong mute man too
I think you can guess that the children of the village start going missing once the circus arrives and it isn't long before they realise that the panther guy is really a vampire and kinsman of the original vampire they killed at the beginning

I won't give away the endings to either of these movies but they are worth the watch if your feeling in a weird mood

I forgot to record Vampire Circus even though I'd marked it in the listings mag for taping   It was advertised as being creepy and one you shouldn't watch alone     Is it really that scary Luc?!

I never saw The Baby advertised....what a weird film   I hope it wasn't based on a true story

Well I as up watching it on my own and I didn't find it one bit scary....you can see the supposed horror coming a mile off...they build it up ....there really is no shocks like in modern horror movies...all I would say is that it was weird but strangely intriguing too

The Baby was a strange one..and I hope that too   though I reckon there has been many cases were Mothers have kept their grown up children in child like states
