The sporting life......I think last Wednesday must have been an unlucky day for me! Basically my university hosted a cricket tournament for charity. 'All in good fun' I thought to myself. The rules said it was an eight a side competition so I set about finding friends who'd join me in a team. All was going well until a few weeks beforehand when people had to pull out. This didn't put me off however, and I contacted the organisers to put myself forward as a spare player in case any teams were short of numbers. And it gets better.....I woke up on the morning of the event feeling up for a few hours of cricket as I hadn't played properly in years ( although if I say so myself I'm quite handy as a left-handed batsman!) to find it was raining, then proceeded to fall and injure my foot. Adverse weather conditions stopped play anyway but I was left feeling a little disappointed- I'm hoping that maybe it'll be rescheduled as an 'end of term' event so that people get a chance to compete at a later date as it seemed like it could have been such fun, especially with the 'fancy dress' rule!

A fancy dress rule....I'm intrigued Who (or what) were you going to dress up as and do the tutors take part too? It sounds a lot of fun and I hope you manage to reschedule the match!

I have no idea who I'd dress up as- I had the daft idea that if I could I would dress as Darth Vader ( I already have the costume) and get a possible team of 'stormtroopers' together but I think I'd get too hot under the helmet so a rethink may be in order! I don't know if our lecturers take part or not but it would be fun if they did, after all they'll want to relaxx as well as us students I'd imagine, and it seems like a fun way to let off a bit of steam and have a laugh.

Darth Vader playing cricket....very surreal At least the helmet would protect against bouncers though!

I suppose- I did also have the mad idea of getting a bunch of my mates who like me are fans of Parliament/Funkadelic together and playing dressed as George Clinton, Bootsy Collins etc.

Would it be all males or would you have females taking part too?!

Depends if any of my female friends wanted to play, it's a 'regardless of ability' thing so I presume everyone's welcome if/when they decide to reschedule the event.

Sadly it was never re-arranged, and now my time as a student has officially ended! Apparently they're on about doing it again next year though, which is a tad late for me.......

never mind bud...onwards and upwards..... i'm sure you'll have many a sporting event in the future to attend dressed as a lord of the Sith though none come to mind

I can only think that attending one as an ambassador for the Dark Side may well result in me being kicked out....
