THE SCARE LIST

Now i know everyones list will differ due to tastes and succeptability to a good scare, but this is intended to bring forward good horrors we may or may not have seen

in no particular order - some of my faves are:

1. Texas Cahinsaw Massacre (original)
2. Exorcist
3. Shining
4. Switchblade Romance
5. Just Before Dawn
6. Hotline
7. Memories of Murder
8. A Nightmare on Elm Street
9. Wolf Creek
10.Halloween

lots more to use though of course

your pick please
Catnapper

I've said before how I don't watch things like Saw, Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Hostel type films   so my list of horror films tend to be less scary and are short on blood and gore.....but I like them!

IT
Salem's Lot
Psycho
The Hitcher (original film)
Dead of Night - original film (the ventriloquist dummy freaked me out   )
The Mist
The Shining
The Omen
Halloween
The Orphanage
The Exorcist
Eden Log - not scary, more unsettling because you don't know what it's leading up to.
P2
The Ring
The Eye
Them (Ils)

Mirrors, Paranormal Activity, Eden Lake and Parasomnia could be added to my list after I see them!
Scorpio

mmm el orfanto was a decent film catty

eden log - i have not seen this yet
Lucifer_666

I agree with lots of the ones already added by you both

The Exorcist
The Omen (sequel too)
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Halloween
Salem's Lot (a bit dated now but at the time... great!!)
Amityville Horror
IT
Saw
Hostel

I also can't wait to see Paranormal Activity ...Its got great reviews

Though Memories of Murder or Eden Log I haven't seen
Scorpio

Catnapper

I haven't seen Memories of Murder Scorps.....but I looked it up on imdb and it sounds pretty good    I haven't seen Switchblade Romance either!

Oh I'd forgot about Salem's Lot Luc   I've got the vid.....I must watch it again! I know one scene scared the heck out of me.......a dead body opens his eyes   In fact I'll add Salem's Lot to my list with some others I've just remembered!
Scorpio

get them both - you wont regret it

what about the scene in salems lot where the young boy flys to the window and taps away whispering "let me in"

that bit IS chilling
Catnapper

Ah that could be the scene I meant Scorps! Or was it a combination of the vampires at the window and a body in a coffin opening its eyes in the same scene? Anyway, whatever it was it scared me

Oooh, horror, one of my favourite genres. Some creepy choices, here's some that chilled me.

1 The Devil's Backbone
2 Eyes Without A Face
3 Night of the Demon
4 Dead of Night (That dummy was and still is one of the freakiest things I've seen, even thinking about it chills me!)
5 The Masque of the Red Death
6 Seance on a Wet Afternoon
7 The Haunting (original)
8 The Wicker Man (original)
9 Nosferatu (1922)
10 Rosemary's Baby
Lucifer_666

No haven't seen switchblade romance either mate ...I definitely will though

And Yeah Salem's Lot was quite creepy particularly at the time and had a good few scare moments but the two I would remember most would be the scene with the Vampire child at the window tapping to get in and for some odd reason the bald creature thing that looked a bit like Nosferatu in the prison

Nostromo I haven't seen Dead of Night, Seance on a Wet Afternoon  or Eyes without a Face but read about them on IMBD and I have to say they sound very good.....

Though we have talked here about horror films with Ventiquism and dolls.... but I don't think that was among them...I could be wrong though
(correction... I am wrong..... Cat told me about this film when we were discussing horror monsters   )
Have you seen Magic with Anthony Hopkins...its got a similar premise
Lucifer_666

Two other movies I could add but before I do ......I find myself judging horror not so much by scare factor because no film really scares me anymore but I do assess them good by how long the film lingers with me after its over ...in a disturbing way...anyway

Something Wicked this way comes - Its almost Stephen King like this film and as a kid left me quite shaken....by todays standards its tame but still an enjoyable movie

The Entity - the music is brilliantly scary and dynamic during the rape and attack sequences
Catnapper

Nostromo - you know what they say about facing your fears? Well, I actually bought Dead of Night a couple of weeks ago to see if it still creeps me out like it did the first time I saw it........I've not plucked up courage to see it yet   ........and I haven't seen Magic either Luc

It's surprising what scares people though.......I saw a film on tv years ago starring Andrew Prine. I'd seen him in other films/tv shows and he was always the nice guy/hero type.......but in this particular film he played a psychopath with a shaved head and he appeared accompanied by creepy sounding music   .......it freaked me out at the time!
Scorpio

as a child witchboard, mean season, hotline and deadly spawn scared me
Catnapper

I haven't seen any of them Scorps!
Scorpio

look them up they are good
Catnapper

I wouldn't go for Deadly Spawn even though I like scifi films......the gory deaths part put me off     The other 3 look good though....especially Witchboard.
Scorpio

deadly spawn is pants to be honest but the others are good as well as a film called just before dawn
Catnapper

I just looked up Just Before Dawn.......a machete-wielding maniac film with a shocking twist   I'd have nightmares for weeks if I saw that one
Scorpio

believe me it is better than it sounds................
Lucifer_666

All sound great

Why is it when you try to think of good horrors (even though there has been many) you can never think of any

Oh theres a film that although was not scary kind of left me thinking about it after it was over when I was a kid and that was the Company of Wolves...its very gothic and its basically a horror retake on the Little Red Riding hood tale...it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea though
Lucifer_666

There's another horror I love....Children of the Corn

Here's the two  bits I actually remember most...

The kid who plays Issac is class...he's the one complaining and shouting 'Malachi' while tied up and then later when erm...he ain't

Spoiler warning.... Don't watch these clips if you haven't seen the film as it does kind of give away some of the ending

Catnapper

It was on tv when I was young.....I only watched about half of it cause it scared me
Lucifer_666

Yep its a great film .... I actually got the dvd collection of these films for Xmas and I still haven't got round to watching them yet
Scorpio

not too keen on the sequels, but i loveed the first one
Lucifer_666

I would be similar mate but I haven't seen them in years now and I am curious to watch them now
Scorpio

worth a watch, just not in the same league as the original
Lucifer_666

Yep I agree
