The Colonel - the story of Elvis Presley's managerVariety reports that Producers David Permut and Steve Binder have acquired the rights to Alanna Nash's 2003 book "The Colonel:The Extraordinary story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley"
Parker always claimed to be American but Alanna Nash discovered a link to the Netherlands......and a possible link to a murder.

A murder? really? was he manager of Elvis in the final years? I know my Mother and most Elvis fans used to always blame his management and other around Elvis for his death.....filling him with loads of drugs to keep him working the film sounds interesting though

He was Elvis's manager from the early years Luc. He sounded a shady character......it makes you wonder why Elvis stuck with him when he took 50% of his earnings.

Elvis was a very trusting and loyal guy from all reports babe

According to research for my project he wasn't a Colonel in the conventional sense, and his real name wasn't Tom Parker, he was a Dutch 'carnie' who got into business.

I wonder did Elvis salute him and treat him like a superior Officer?
Emperor Morphetine
Would'nt have thought so, though it was actually Parker who was behind Elvis's drafting into the US Army, in a nice twist!
Lucifer_666
Yeah you know your probably right there Morphy...it was a good pr stunt at the time for Elvis and the army

And he got to meet Priscilla too!

War does have its plus sides too doesn't it

Must've done wonders for troop morale having a singer in the ranks

The only fighting they did was fending off all his women fans

Yeah war is hell isn't it!!
Emperor Morphetine
It would be funny if he managed to use his stage moves in combat...
Lucifer_666
I have visions of him running across a war zone to 'A little less conversation' playing and him shaking that pelvis whenever he gets a minute

It could've been a deadly finishing move if needed I guess! Funny we should be on the subject, as I'm reading 'Careless Love', which is the second volume of one of the definitive biographies of the King at this moment, and it starts with his stint in the army and being stationed in Germany.
Lucifer_666
Was he stationed ion Germany?? Really?? I would have thought they would have kept him as far away as possible? Perhaps fly hi in to entertain troops somewhere? Was this after Germany surrendered and they were still fighting the Japs?

The US have an army base in Germany Luc and he wasn't involved in any fighting he was just doing his national service!
Emperor Morphetine
Indeed he was, and it's also where he met Priscilla, who was the daughter of a senior commander within the army.

Here put me down now.... I think I was taking stupid pills the other night when I wrote that last post.....of course Elvis wasn't fighting during World War 2
I didn't realise that about her father either....I guess he thought it okay for Elvis to take his 14 year old daughter?
Emperor Morphetine
Yeah, but only after he swore to him that he'd make sure she was properly schooled etc, he didn't just give her away!
Catnapper
She was chaperoned too I think......maybe by Elvis's mother?
Lucifer_666
Oh come on you two how many fathers would let a 22 year old red blooded male take their innocent 14 year old (when 14 was
innocent remember) half way across the globe?
And chaperoned by the enemy's Mother? Is she really a proper chaperone?
Oh its paedophilia and neglect I tells yas

Catnapper
It was a strange set up alright!
Lucifer_666
Yep I definitely think that is the word for it alright
Emperor Morphetine
I agree it was odd but apparently The King could be very persuasive..
