Smoking Complaints on TV

Anti-smoking campaigners have asked the BBC to apologise after Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May lit pipes on Sunday's show.
"Smoking in a studio is illegal. We would hope programme-makers make some form of apology," said a spokeswoman for Action on Smoking and Health (Ash). (I think she should smoke some pot and chill...silly cow )
Waverley Borough Council said it was investigating the incident at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey.
The BBC declined to comment on whether or not what took place was illegal.
All three of the show's presenters pulled pipes out from under their chairs during a discussion about Porsche-branded products, but Richard Hammond did not light up, having recently given up smoking.
After putting the wrong end of the pipe in his mouth, Clarkson, 47, was seen running from the stage.

The ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces in England was introduced in July, following similar laws in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

For crying out loud have these campaigners nothing better to be doing than this....its sooo stupid and they are probably highlighting it more now by complaining about it
I just have visions of these people sitting by the telly waiting for any new programming to come on to watch out for stuff like this so that they can then give out

Its madness

It's illegal to smoke in public so I suppose the ASH spokesman thinks he's helping to uphold the law. Mary Whitehouse used to monitor programmes for any sexual content so ASH will probably monitor programmes for smoking now....

If the presenters only did it for a few seconds as part of a comedy moment then I can't see why they should get penalised for it.......if they'd smoked through the whole programme then it would have been different. But I suppose when you're on TV you've got to be seen to uphold the law and be a good influence on people.

There is actually an agreement that smoking is still allowed inside if it is part of a performance, so people are allowed to smoke on stage for example. I would've thought this was just part of the programme so entirely legal. They think that they're setting a bad example but what are they going to do, ban smoking in all TV and films. What next, ban people from drinking or eating on TV too?! LOL!
Catnapper

With what they've been saying about binge drinking and binge eating lately a ban on them can't be far off! Give them time.....they'll get round to it!

Christ ladies don't be giving them ideas

I think this is craziness I really do....how sad that people from ASH are sitting around looking for stuff like this and do you really think after seeing the three fellas on Top Gear a load of kids were going to go out and get themselves some pipes to smoke??

Its a joke

It is complete insanity and a total erosion of civil liberties brought on by an overbearing nanny state. God knows where it will end. Probably with a V for Vendetta style hardline police state.

Its like the Government are trying to take the place of religion in today's society telling us whats bad,...or good and whats going to corrupt us
