September DawnA story set against the Mountain Meadows Massacre, the film is based upon the tragedy which occurred in Utah in 1857. ironically on the 11th of September
A group of settlers, traveling on wagons, was murdered by the native Mormons. All together, about 140 souls of men, women and children, were taken. Amidst this, two young lovers-to-be, one a Mormon and the other one of the doomed settlers from Arkansas, develop a relationship in an atmosphere of suspicion and rancor.
This movie has an epic feel by the look of it and has a great cast which includes Jon Voight, Trent Ford, Lolita Davidovich, Dean Cain and Terence Stamp.... its also causing alot of controversy in certain corners most notably with the Mormon crowd as it represents the view that Brigham Young had a direct role in the massacre, while the LDS Church (Mormon) maintains that "the weight of historical evidence shows that Brigham Young did not authorize the massacre".
To also add to its appeal Christopher Cain directed...he also directed that other great western 'Young Guns'
Its released today the 24th of August
Sounds good to me then again I like historical films

I always thought Mormons were peace loving folk......going off this film, they're not! It has a very good cast.......good to see Terence Stamp in it too

Nope I haven't yet babe but it is on my list....it looks good doesn't it?
There is always something about the Mormon's I never trusted anyway....I hate those guys in the same suits coming to the door not taking no for an answer.....one of the last times I eventually told one I was a devil worshipper....he looked at me funny and then I shut the door

This does look interesting. I'm always a little suspicious when a film says 'inspired' by actual events. That means they can change almost everything. I'd be interested to know all the actual known facts surrounding this event.

Yeah I know where your coming from Rodd.....the worst I've seen lately like that was Wolf Creek
I do think the actual events are very uncertain anyway ...its really one word against the other....there is no doubt however that the native Mormons did slaughter the settling people what is debated is whether Bingham Young sanctioned it

Yeah, I did a little research on it over lunch and it seems that the Mormons say that it was a group of renegades and that the Mormon church as a whole totally condemned the attack. There seems to be some evidence to support this.

Really Rodd?? I was almost certain sure that the native Mormons did carry it out but weren't sanctioned or something but I'll take your word for it mate ... I haven't gone that far into detail on it

Sorry I meant they say it was a group of renegade Mormons - so yes it was Mormons, but they say they were a breakaway group that were basically deemed outlaws.

Yep but I think this is where the feud is.....some reckon that Brigham Young was involved in some way....I do think there must be reason to doubt the official moromon story mate if they are making a movie citing that it is based after true events

As far as I can see the 'inspired by actual events' is just the slaughter part which is uncontested by both sides. The fictional part is taking the theory that it was sanctioned. But you're right it's certainly one of those events that we will probably never know the full truth.

Well I don't think either side have concrete proof of what really happened mate so I suppose in theory you could have an alien ship transport the Mormons to their settler targets and still be able to cite based on true events

lol very true!

Come to think of it ...that sounds like an even better movie and it could highlight in the trailers "Just when you thought you knew everything about Scientology" or "The day the Mormons and the scientology Overlords joined together"
