Ridley Scott to make Monoply

Dark Horizons wrote:
Universal Pictures and Hasbro announced Wednesday a six-year strategic partnership to produce at least four feature films based on some of Hasbro's best-known game and toy brands says Reuters.

Hasbro has the option of co-funding production of the films and will retain all merchandising rights to the brands with the first film to be out by 2010 or 2011 and at least one film a year released after that.

The manufacturer will partner exclusively with Universal for feature films with the exception of "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe," which are already setup at DreamWorks and Paramount.

Amongst these are such properties as Monopoly, Candy Land, Clue, Ouija, Battleship, Magic, the Gathering and Stretch Armstrong. Hasbro COO Brian Goldner says David Berenbaum is penning a draft for "Ouija" and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes will produce. He also says Hasbro is in negotiations with Ridley Scott on "Monopoly".

Hasbro is co-financing script development with Universal and has the option of co-funding production of the films. Hasbro will retain all merchandising rights to the brands, and the companies will share in consumer products revenue generated by the movies.

As weird ideas go this has to be up there with the best...a Monoply film based on the game?? I wonder who will star as the Top Hat or Car?

Clue has already been made into a film with Tim Curry...so I wonder will they revisit that one again?  And  a Stretch Armstrong film sounds a bit redundant to me today..it was a great toy at the time but nothing new now as an idea. Battleship might be good if done properly?

That is a strange sounding idea for a film Luc......I'd imagine it being surreal and almost cartoony in style. Is the Ouija one based on a Ouija board or is there a game called that?
Lucifer_666

You got me there babe though I think that is a different game and not the ghostly board thing...I can se it being a cartoony type aswell babe...it does sound strange though
Catnapper

They could bring out a whole lot of board game films like Hungry Hippos, Scrabble, Mousetrap etc
Lucifer_666

Scrabble would be the most boring film ever..it would be like watching Countdown: The Movie ...though we might get a Carol Vorderman sex scene

Love the idea of Hungry Hippos though... you could have each character having to protect his own white ball and dropped into a forrest infested with our mutant hungry hippos who can sniff out the balls ahhhhhhh could be classic!!!

As for Mouse trap ...there is a musical or play isn't there?
Catnapper

Des O'Connor hosts Countdown now so he could sing the theme tune

The Hungry Hippo one sounds a winner!

Mouse trap's the name of a board game from what I remember Luc?
Lucifer_666

Des O Connor singing ...we want to get people to watch the film and not people off babe

Mouse Trap is a game I remember it but it is a play aswell as far as I know
Catnapper

Yeah Mouse Trap's a play Luc......my aunt and ucle saw it when they were in London a few years ago.......apparently you're not supposed to give out the ending to anyone!
Emperor Morphetine

All I'll say is someone like Ben Kingsley could probably play Uncle Pennybags!
Lucifer_666

I wonder would the film work out to be the same? You can't give away the ending ...like the Sixth Sense

Uncle Pennybags? ...thats the first time I have heard the name of the guy in the front of the Monoply board...I didn't even know he had a name Morphy
