Red Dawn RemakeThey are apparently not only remaking Robocop but also brat pack 80's war film 'Red Dawn' now too.. ....don't ask me how the story will play out considering the original was set in a very different time when Russia was a Super Power so I'm thinking maybe China? Its hard to know for sure though... for anyone who has never seen the original film though it was basically a 'What If?' kind of film about the USSR invading America in a surprise attack and a group of kids who escape a nearby school and head out into the mountains and eventually decide to fight back using guerilla warfare and calling themselves 'WOLVERINES' It had a great cast of young talent Patrick Swayze, C Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer grey, and Harry Dean Stanton,
Synopsis:
It is the dawn of World War III. In mid-western America, a group of teenagers bands together to defend their town, and their country, from invading Soviet forces.
I know the plot seems pretty out there now today....but years ago it was quite scary and nervy in a way...but that aside I still think it was a great war film ...here's a trailer

his film in its day,and i am not sure if it stills stands today,i doubt,if rambo has his way,but it had the most killings in a movie more than any other,so i read once.
but nevertheless,a really good film in it`s day,a cult classic in my opinion.and star a cast of who`s who.
i liked this alot, but a remake, they could get away with it,because there are so many enemies to choose from, but who would you star in it,probably not an all star cast, because i doubt anyone who`s anyone would get involved in a remake of this nature.
so a face we are familiar with and a bunch of up coming wannabies, making the first step, and i bet you, they are all georgeos.

Yeah I would agree with you YTTM about considering it a cult classic...it was very different from the other type of brat pack movies of the day I always thought....the film did show the bad parts of war and as you say lots of killings even the fact that the whole beginning of the movie shows a load of children at a school being slaughtered and later on the main kids seeing their parents in a type of Concentration Camp...at the time it was shocking to see..then when you take into account the whole betrayal part of the film it was a 'no holds barred' affair really
As for the remake I reckon you could be right with the casting but I don't know about the enemy..I think its much more difficult to see a viable realistic enemy as the Russians were in the 80's to America....yep the US has lots of enemies today but none that would concievable launch or be able to launch a land offensive in such a massive scale. I know I mentioned China earlier but even with that I felt I was reaching a little...I guess they could have it that America's economy has collapsed and its super power status reduced a great deal at the beginning of the move??

It could be worse they could be remaking Highlander.....oh........ ...yeah..they are already

They made some great films in the 80s and Red Dawn's one of them The story seems unbelievable at first but soon grabs you and you're rooting for the kids to fight back
I still can't watch that scene where he drinks that animal's blood though
|
Lucifer_666
|
Oh yeah the blood drinking scene...they have some weird traditions in America
I really like the scene where one of them betrays them by swallowing a transmitter and ends up admitting it and they all know they have to kill him but some can't......its a good scene

I wonder if a remake would have a different ending or if they'd stick to the same one?
That was a good scene Luc and showed what difficult decisions people have to make during war.
I liked that scene where Charlie Sheen's character tells the girl to wash the dishes......then acts surprised by her reaction

I reckon it may differ slightly but I hope they keep it similar to the first in the sense that the whole film is just centered around a single area and the kids fighting a geurilla war..if they made it bigger showing a WW3 I think it may ruin the original concept ..besides if it was successful they could perhaps follow the survivors as they perhaps fight later in the bigger war
And yeah that was a good scene aswell

|
I should imagine they'd keep it set in a small town cause that has more of an impact and seems more real.........kind of like an "it could happen to you" type scenario.
I'm curious to see if any of the actors from the original will make a guest appearance too.
|
Lucifer_666
|
Yeah I actually think there may be a possibilty of that now....any one could play the parents parts now....maybe one could play the old army guy that helps them

I just read this.....All sounds very promising
Screenwriter Carl Ellsworth ("Red Eye," "Disturbia") has been hired to pen MGM's remake of the 1984 homeland invasion thriller "Red Dawn" says The Hollywood Reporter.
The John Milius-directed original dealt with a World War III invasion of America by the Soviets and Cubans, and followed a group of Midwestern teenagers who take on their high school mascot name -- "Wolverines!" -- as a rallying cry of resistance.
The new version will updated to post-9/11 contemporary times. "Bourne Ultimatum" and "Quantum of Solace" second unit director Dan Bradle will helm the new version which was first announced at Cannes in May.

Are you sure it wasn't Virgin 1 bud? because it was on there last night because I watched a bit of it myself and your right still great for an old flick

I wonder who'll be doing the invading this time round if it's set post 9/11?
|
Lucifer_666
|
Could be China maybe aided by certain middle eastern crowds...I'm guessing that the American and probably all of the western countries economies have crashed and things aren't going well before the invasion..... Well thats my best guess

|
You have a knack of predicting the right things so you could be right Luc
Carl Ellsworth said this...."As Red Dawn scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease. So why not scare the hell out of people again?"
I reckon it'll be excellent

Thanks for the compliment babe but I have been wrong more times than right on certain things like this. ..but it is fun summising and guessing
That sounds great alright ...and its funny because its not that far off really considering the economies of the west at the moment and China becoming a bigger power by the minute
|
Catnapper
|
That's part of the fun, guessing and speculating about things on here
I can't wait to hear more about this film cause I want to know which countries are doing the invading this time round!

Maybe a load of the Middle east will join with Russia and China
