Prequel to 'Alien'Variety confirms the news Entertainment Weekly broke early last month: original "Alien" helmer Ridley Scott is indeed directing a prequel to "Alien."
More than that, a screenwriter has been hired. Jon Spaihts, a hot Hollywood talent who hasn’t quite gotten anything produced yet, is now penning the script.
It’s Scott’s first time directing an “Alien” movie since the 1979 thriller that launched the franchise.
Earlier reports suggesting one Carl Erik Rinsch, the commercial director romantically involved with Scott’s daughter, would direct the prequel were apparently premature.
I don't know about prequels in franchises like this  it realy does pigeon hole the script and even the technology in a way.....they can only go so far....and i thought Sigourney Weaver was mean't to be starring? how will that work out

Are they trying to reinvent the franchise like JJ Abrams has done with Star Trek? It's hard to see how Sigourney Weaver could star in a prequel 30 years after she starred in the original, but I'm curious to see how they'd pull it off!

weaver can't be in prequal 30 yrs before the original as she would either not have been born or would be aq child of between 1-4 , time travel would be the only way to do it , but not a good idea . in my book , in fact i think they should be looking at a big sequal .

But the question is where do they go from here? They've had their own cycle, done battle with Predators...what now?

I've heard that it's going to lead up to the events of the first film, so no Ripley at all. Talk is of it focusing on the Space Jockey that you see in the crashed ship, so it sounds like it could be CGI heavy, which could give it an unusual feel. If it was any other director I would have poo pooed it, but I have faith with Sir Ridley.

well if it's a prequel to a film he made then yeah i have faith in it will be good , also they are saying it's gonna be about the derelict alien ship on lv426 how it got , and stuff about the space jockey , this is gonna be interesting .

i don't know...... does it not sound very like the original film.....in other words are we gonna have another dark horror monster stalking in a ship thing?
personally i was hoping for something more elaborate Earth invasion or infestation whatever way you want to call it ...i thought that was the direction a big sequel would have went to
As for the Ripley character if she's in it ....i'd rather time travel of the normal kick ass Ripley than the cloned half breed we got in the fourth movie

i agree if we have the time travel angle then defo the kick ass ripley , but i think they are gonna go with the angle of how the ship came to be there on lv426 , interesting to see how he will do it and how it will be written .

hmm yeah ....i just thought there was more interesting angles in which to explore a new Alien film

yeah they defo could have done a marine ship to a planet for a training exercise and it happens to be a planet full of aliens and thehy haveto fight for there lives .
