Emperor Morphetine

Planes, Trains & AutomobilesThis was on Film Four last night as part of a Steve Martin season. And I quite liked it actually, as its one of his funniest pieces of work. He plays an executive named Neal Page, who is desperate to get home for the Thanksgiving holiday who is left cursing his luck after a series of travel mishaps and coincidental meetings with Del Griffin (John Candy), who he first meets on a plane flight.
The two are forced to become mismatched travel companions as they try to reach their respective families, and grow to resent each other as the journey wears on until they find some common ground and the whole enterprise becomes more bearable.
A funny and novel twist on the buddy movie, with some brilliant lines courtesy of writer/director John Hughes. Overall one of Steve Martin's better films and thoroughly enjoyable.
