Pans Labyrinth on Sunday

Pans Labyrinth was on CH 4  tonight and I watched it for the first time....

Review....

A young girl called Ofelia travels with her pregnant Mother to live with her cruel sadistic Stepfather who just happens to be Captain of the Spanish Army, who is hunting down rebels still fighting in the mountains
During the night, she meets a fairy who takes her to an old faun in the center of the labyrinth. He tells her she's a princess, but must prove her royalty by surviving three gruesome tasks. If she fails, she will never prove herself to be the the true princess and will never see her real father, the king, again

I have to say I loved this film and the way it altered from the cruel and violent reality to the fantasy and wonder of Ofelia's secret world....the special effects and set designs were all top notch aswell which all aided in building a very dark but also seductive atmosphere... I understand why it won the Oscars it did...

I read the following about this film elsewhere relating to its moral and I thought I'd add it here

"This is the story about a young girl... and the fantasy world she created, to survive the harsh reality... This movie teaches us how children survive the real world, which they are not prepared for, and how adults having forgotten this ability, disregard it as nothing, missing its "power"..."

I like that

Very good movie

Yeah it's an excellent film   Anyone expecting it to be a children's fairy tale type film would be in for a shock because it's very dark and twisted! I was shocked at first with what happened to her near the end....I didn't expect that at all...then it carried on and I thought the ending was well done.

Yep it would have been shocking for those expecting a fairytale type of film   Could you imagine little kids being allowed to stay up to see it??     they wouldn't sleep for a week after
Catnapper

The film's title suggests a Disney type film but it's as far away from Disney as can be!
Jipdog

It's a classic! I love Del Torro's films. Roll on The Hobbit!

Yep I have to say I'm looking forward more to the Hobbit now myself....should be great
