New US President..And he has a brain

I have been following the build up to these elections for months now and I am absolutely delighted that America have finally picked someone who I reckon will be a great President.     .... yes its one fantastic thing that he is black but more important to me is the fact that the guy has a great brain and can speak properly.....you can also tell he will use his head and talk to others like equals unlike the last president...George W. who was a moron and war mongerer

  GO ABAMA!!!

Oh and check this out..particularly if your a Star Wars Fan

big aundy

yeah totally agree , knew obama would win this , didn't expect such a landslide though .
Catnapper

It was a cert Obama would win....though if McCain was younger, I think he would have stood a better chance of winning. But becoming President at 72 wouldn't have been good for his health because it's such a stressful job. Obama should be a good President and won't be liable to gaffes like Bush was!
Jipdog

He'll the big bad kaber up. All American Presidents end up doing it, even Abraham Lincoln. In his case, going to the theatre was the biggest the big bad kaber up anyone could make! I was chatting to one of my friends in America the other day and I asked who was voting for and he replied: "I don't have much of a choice do I? It's not like you have it where you have a choice of different parties. We get 2 choices and one of them looks like he should be sitting with Waldorf and Statler in the Muppet Show and the other one doesn't look human! I highly doubt either one of them are going to make that much of a difference and neither one of them can be worse than Bush, who could be outwitted by a half eaten piece of chalk. Obama is obviously going to win, and I don't think it's down to just his policies, it would be more down to his skin color, which is not the way to vote. I'm going to do the sensible thing and vote with my ass!".

Before anybody says anything, it's not a racist comment, that last part!

Its not like we had much choice though- they've been going on about it on the News for maybe a year
Emperor Morphetine

I think its a step forward for the US- Obama talks a good gameplan for the country and his plans make sense! Admittedly I didn't expect such a landslide win for him but it's great that he has a chance to lead his country away from the errors of the Bush administration!
Lucifer_666

I would never think you were racist from what you say there Jip my friend just cynical and in fairness with just cause I suppose considering many other Presidents that promised so much and I do partly agree as I do think they have boosted expectations beyond what is possible but I still think his very appointment was very important and inspirational ...but past that for me is the fact that I firmly believe that both America and the world is a much safer place now with a Democrat like him in the White House than a Republican even the so called Maverick McCain who in my opinion is still very confrontational and militaristic for my liking and don't get me started on Palin ...she is a nut job Rebublican I have to say if I was American it would not have been his skin colour that would make me vote Abama but the fact that he shares much more of my core values ...he wants to talk to people abroad both enemies and friends ...something alien to the  Bush administration

What didn't help too Cat with his age was his choice of Vice President ....that was a disaster

I take it K you didn't enjoy the build up to the American election

I definitely agree too Morphy...its a definite step forward ...though I was predicting the land slide......how could people even consider that Palin joke was beyond me   though I did enjoy Tina Fey's impersonations on Saturday Night Live
Catnapper

I don't think it helped that Sarah Palin is the Governor of Alaska...she seemed too far away from Washington and that might have affected people's votes....plus she's scary when she poses with a gun and talks about hunting
Lucifer_666

I think the stupid things she used to say also contributed too...oh and the fact that she was found guilty of abusing her power in Alaska by sacking a guy because he wouldn't discharge a soldier who just so happened to be having a messy separation with her sister (her Bro in law)

Like to cite that she has international experience because apparently she can see part of Russia from her house in Alaska was the running joke throughout the election
Catnapper

McCain and Palin would have been a dream for comedians! Who's Obama's Vice President.......I don't remember seeing much of him through the election?
Lucifer_666

He was a guy called Joe Biden...he has alot of experience particularly in the international stage which helped Obama with those citing his lack of experience
Catnapper

Ah that's the one! Considering Sarah Palin was all over the news, no one seemed to bother about Biden.....I can't recall reading much about him either!
Lucifer_666

Well she a journalist wet dream with all her gaffes and general stupidity it probably helped Biden by keeping him more low key

Though I would still do her       Oh yeah ....YOUBETYA (wink)
Emperor Morphetine

I still think McCain only picked her in the hope he'd get the female vote, to me she seemed to have an oddly 'mumsy' quality about her and he knew it, she just oozed responsibility what with being a governor and mum of god knows how many! Plus she proved she could scrap with the best of them and lived up to the 'pitbull in lipstick' tag. But John McCain did seem more than a little out of touch to me, maybe its his age but he seemed a bit stuck in his own little timewarp!

Obama does seem the best man for the job if I'm honest- he showed he had a human touch and always seemed really clued up in his speeches, you can tell he loves his country. Plus I think a black President is a step forward as it might open up a new way of thinking in the White House and avoid the mistakes George Bush made in his time in office!
Catnapper

It's just as well Obama was elected and not McCain after these revelations about Sarah Palin.......someone from the McCain camp has leaked details about her and McCain aides are trying to blame her for the election defeat. They're saying she didn't know Africa was a continent, spent too much on designer clothes, would have tantrums and cry after reading criticisms in the morning papers and.........she allegedly turned up at an important briefing at her hotel wearing just a towel      I don't know if any of it's true or not!
Emperor Morphetine

I would say its probably half and half, I suspect that she probably could have said/done some of the things she's alleged to have but some of the allegations seem ridiculous to me! It does seem odd that its her own side who have betrayed her like that by leaking these details after defeat though, I had expected that sort of thing to come from Barack Obama's campaign team but not the man who chose her as running mate....

Just goes to show that politics is all just a question of spin really, eh?
Catnapper

No doubt they would have kept quiet about the allegations if McCain had won! They're looking for someone to blame by the sounds of it to deflect any blame from themselves.
Emperor Morphetine

Happens in politics anywhere you'd care to look! Nobody in the corridors of power has the sense to take a long, hard look at themselves where needed- they'd rather hide behind something/someone else if they can.
K

No, I didn't enjoy the endless coverage of the US elections, but I am glad Obama won. Maybe America will finally wake up to the rest of the world. I liked the idea of such a massive turn out to vote- that's what voting should be about.

I do think Sarah Palin is barmy though- waving guns about and saying weird things
Lucifer_666

Being honest I can believe every word of those revelations about Palin....she was truly awful...I watched alot of her interviews she did and on so many of them she looked like she was just winging it to get by and didn't really know what she was talking about where normal politicians particularly in America could well handle themselves in these situations (Save Bush   ) Even McCain who was prone to the odd gaffe could still speak with knowledge and authority on key issues....Palin came across as a novice to me...though that was partly the Republicans fault too as they should have schooled and prepared her much better..speaking of blame I do think its a bit late in the day to put all the blame on Palin..she was offered the oportunity of a lifetime for a woman at her age and she grabbed it like most would (considering her inexperience and abuse of power alegations it was a stupid move though)
but for me I think McCain has to take the ultimate blame simply for the fact that he picked this woman after only meeting her shortly  beforehand...he didn't seem to check her out fully and it was plain stupid on his part

In saying all that I wouldn't mind her turning up in just a towel at my hotel room   she could play with my shooter   youbetya

Funny K I sort of miss the elections now that they are over

Don't you have to be barmy to be a politician anyway?

Certainly power crazed!
Emperor Morphetine

A little insanity probably helps if you're a politician, yeh!
