New Metallica album- 'Death Automatic'Heavy metal legends Metallica have announced a title for their upcoming new album- it'll be called 'Death Automatic'. Produced by Rick Rubin and due out in September, singer/ guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich have said they want it to be the missing link between 1988's 'And Justice For All' and 1991's 'Metallica/The Black Album' in terms of sound.
I've liked them for quite a while and have nearly all their albums although 'St Anger' was a bit disappointing, my favourites being 'Ride The Lightning', Master Of Puppets' and 'The Black Album'. Apparently they've played a few of the new songs live as well as releasing covers of Ennio Morricone's 'The Ecstasy Of Gold' and Iron Maiden's 'Remember Tomorrow' ( for tribute albums 'We All Love Ennio Morricone' and 'Maiden Heaven' respectively). I've heard their take on 'Remember Tomorrow and it sounds alright, hopefully a sign of things to come for when the new album comes out ( rumour has it it's out in September).
And as I treat I've put a video for the 'Remember Tomorrow' cover for you, just click the link, as well as one for 'The Ecstasy Of Gold' as done in their inimitable style!

Indeed they do, although the older albums are better than their more recent output in my opinion.

The Mrs got me St. Anger when it first came out and really didn't like it, but it has grown on me over the last few months. I quite liked Load but thought Reload was okish. My personnel favorite is a 2 way tie between Master Of Puppets and the Black album. I do hope the new one is going to hark back to days of old.

Apparently it does, they've gone back to 'E' tuning which is what they used on the Black Album and some of the earlier stuff. Hopefully this one will be better than St Anger, the only thing I enjoyed from that was their series of Ramones covers which they used as B sides-

I didn't get the St Anger singles or album, just found these on Youtube and I have the 'We're A Happy Family' Ramones tribute album which has Metallica's version of '53rd and 3rd' on it.

Well, looks like it's going to be a good winter for music for me. Metallica and Queen have new albums out next month, Ac/Dc in October and, allegedley, Aerosmith have a new one out by the end of the year. What with Def Leppard having one out a few months ago too, all I need is a new Van Halen album and it's been a damn fine year!

The new Aerosmith album is a curious thing. I can't find a release date but on the radio it was mentioned that it was out this year. Not sure whats on it either. First it was going to be some re-recordings of songs from the first album (which are pretty good. I have heard them on Guitar Hero) and some new songs. Now I have heard that it's a collection of old unused songs.
The new Def Leppard album has been out for a few months and it's pretty good. They've scaled back the ballads and gone for heavier sound, just like the old days.

The Aerosmith album has been rumoured to contain all sorts of things- if its just a 'best of' I already have one so shan't buy it. If it's a B sides/rarities set I'd consider it though.

There was a prog on BBC2 last night called Metallica: A Culture Show Special which followed the band's tour of Europe......It might get repeated again on BBC3 or BBC4, or it could be on iPlayer if anyone wants to watch it.
