New Freddy Kruger film

Variety have said that Michael Bay's Company, along with partners Platinum Dunes, have been given the task of relaunching the franchise by Newline. The Director will be Marcus Nispel (who directed the updated Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and the writers will be the same team who did Freddy vs Jason. The script will be written after the writers strike ends.

BUT.......Variety also said that Robert Englund might not be reprising his role as Freddy Kruger
Lucifer_666

Thats a surprising turn of events isn't it? Robert Englund not returning in the role? I wonder who will replace him and surely if that is the case a revamp is in order like Batman Begins?
Who to get to play Freddy though? Somebody who preys on children, wears one glove,  and fills your sleep with nightmares? I wonder what Michael Jackson is doing these days?
Lucifer_666

Oh sorry Cat I just re read your post you did say it was a relaunch of the franchise...so this will be introducing Freddy again like the Original did? It would want to be done very well if it is to be even a patch on the original
big aundy

there is no one who can play freddy like robert , no one , just they have had 3 guys play jason , but kane hodder is the best for me .
Lucifer_666

Okay mate you have to answer that one for me now....how could you tell the difference with Jason? He wears a mask and never speaks?
big aundy

just the precence of hte man when you see him , kane hodder was great .
Lucifer_666

Is that not more a criticism of the film and its direction than the actors playing the part mate??

Here is what Robert Englund said about his thoughts on returning as Freddy Krueger in the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake:

"It’s a remake! It all came about while I was in Italy working on another film, so now I am back in Hollywood trying to play catch up. All I know is that Michael Bay made an announcement that he is producing the remake of the original. I don’t know if it has Wes Cravens blessing, I presume it does. With the success of Rob Zombies remake of Halloween and Hills Have Eyes remake, The Texas Chainsaw remakes, I like both the originals and the remakes. But of all the films I think The original Nightmare on Elm Street is certainly the scariest possible of the 20th century. Because the nature of the story and the stylized surrealism, the dreamscape that unfolds, if any of these movies are need of a remake with the use of new technologies it would seem that A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of them. It really does beg for the new technology, if you could think about the original with the benefit of CG it wouldn’t be a detriment. I don’t think it would hurt it because it’s such a great story and strong classical myth. I don’t know what that means, is he in overalls because he is a janitor, no more sweater, maybe a tool belt or some sort of creative reinterpretation of the original. There is something sacred about classics, regardless of genre, but there is a time and a place for it, I am certainly not appalled with it. I just hope they have Wes’s Blessing and that trust his story. But they could certainly have fun with the dream, sequences and of course re-interpreting Freddy.

I wouldn’t mind playing a cameo; it would be interesting to see if I could play the dream psychiatrist, I have heard that there is an interesting script regarding a prequel to the original going around. But lets face it I’m not a kid anymore; I have done a variety of films in many genres. I came out of that makeup after 10 years, and after I did a whole bunch of different films I did Freddy vs. Jason and have been real busy since. I could probably don the makeup, but they would certainly need a stunt double for the action stuff. I’m only good for about one take; then I get kind of sore.

If some one like Michael Bay who did the Transformers wants to get involved, he would certainly have a love and respect for it, and he and Wes could talk about all the hot young directors out there right now. I just worked with a great kid Adam Green on Hatchet, and Scott Glosserman on Behind the Mask. These guys are so talented, it would seem to me that of all the films that are getting tweaked Nightmare would lend it self to the new technology. I’m not surprised with the recent success of the later remakes, that A Nightmare on Elm Street is being remade."

So its looking extremely likely as Cat hinted at earlier  that it will be a new actor taking on the role of Freddy though like Englund I'd like to see him with a cameo role
Scorpio

well, Englund deserves a cameo; its just a shame that he is a bad actor......his role as Freddy suited him perfectly as it was over the top......but anything semi serious and he is no good (of course i am discounting his role as Willy in V
Lucifer_666

Funny I don't think I have ever seen Englund star in anything else but as Freddy or Willy?    Oh come to think of it......wasn't he in the Friday the 13th tv series aswell? It was all set in a cafe in the middle of nowhere??.... or am I getting confused??
big aundy

he was a teacher in urban legend as well i think ,
Lucifer_666

Aye your right bud he was..... it was an extremely small part though of what I remember
Lucifer_666

Latest on this project is that it will be shooting this spring and a new actor is definite for the  Freddy role....it will be tough to cast
Catnapper

I looked on imdb and they've only got 1 actor listed so far....someone called Donta Storey   so no news on who's playing Freddy yet.
Lucifer_666

Whose Donta Storey?

Freddy will be mighty difficult to cast...i can't think of one actor for the part....they may go with an unknown either
Catnapper

That was my reaction too Luc

They must still be auditioning for Freddy.......I was thinking who they could get for the part and William Katt's name just popped into my mind for some strange reason
Lucifer_666

The Greatest American hero guy

it could work...just think of a razored glove on one of those hands
Catnapper

He'd have to get rid of the permed hair though....Freddy with a perm would be soooo wrong
Lucifer_666

 hey thats a killer haircut
big aundy

your right mate he played freddy in the series as well
Lucifer_666

i take it you mean Robert Englund mate?

Legendary music video director Samuel Bayer is tipped to be helming the upcoming remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" for Platinum Dunes

But unlike other franchise reboots which bring in various elements from the sequels, this one will be more of a direct remake of the first picture.

Bayer's credits include Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit", The Cranberries' "Zombie", Garbage's "Stupid Girl", Green Day's "American Idiot" and Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around.../...Comes Around". Bayer makes his directorial debut on "Fiasco Heights" which Platinum Dunes is also producing.

I don't know about this film...its already on dodgy ground as it is as a remake of such a classic horror but now not only will it be a direct carbon copy of the original it(Which I hate the thoughts of) will also have an untested director...a guy who directs music vids??? I don't get that decision at all??

Still no word on who will play Freddy... that in my opinion is paramount on the success or failure of the project
Lucifer_666

Two high profile casting rumors hit the Net in the past two days regarding the "Nightmare on Elm Street" remake and both have quickly been shot down.(thank goodness  )

First up Just Jared reported that Lindsay Lohan was cast and included quotes from Dunes co-partner Andrew Form.
(The quotes from Form were totally made up    and the actual rumour was that Lohan would play the 'Nancy' role   ...like I said earlier..Thank goodness   )

Not much later a Latino Review report emerged indicated that "Watchmen" and "Little Children" actor Jackie Earle Haley was the front runner to play Freddy Kruger.

Fuller quickly denied that report over at STYD saying "We have not chosen a Freddy Krueger we're not even negotiating with anyone yet."

To be honest I don't really know Jackie Earle Haley all that well to judge whether he'd be good or not in the Freddy role? Its just so hard to picture anyone else but Robert Englund in the part
Lucifer_666

Well its confirmed Jackie Earle Haley ("Watchmen," "Little Children") is now locked in to play the new Freddy Krueger in New Line Cinema's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake according to the trades.

Kyle Gallner (TV's "Veronica Mars," "The Haunting in Connecticut") has also been cast as Quentin. Samuel Bayer is directing the relaunch, which was written by Wesley Strick.

Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are producing. Filming kicks off May 5th in Chicago for release next April.

Heard this about the new reboot....
Freddy is no longer a janitor who kills twenty kids and gets off on a technicality but a child molester like originally envisioned by Wes Craven (The decision to change this was to avoid being accused of
exploiting a spate of highly publicized child molestation cases in California around the time A Nightmare on Elm Street went into production.)

he also won't be sarcastic or have funny one liners that we have all got used to with Freddy and in fact may speak very little in the project at all though this could also be kept minimal so a new actor(Jackie Earle Haley) can make his own mark on the character...but he will be much more evil...darker than ever before...

He will of course still have the old hat, jumper and razor glove

It will be set in present day with think-backs and dream sequences explaining the following events....
Freddy will be a janitor and gardner at a pre-school..a handsome guy who gets on well with the kids and they all like him...he plays tag with them...but then something happens and Freddy ends up being lynched by an angry mob of parents with molotov cocktails....Thirteen years later Freddy returns to visit the same kids in their dreams...now eighteen years of age to get revenge

But the big difference in the movie will be the question of whether Freddy is actually a child molester or a victim of children's lies...was there home abuse being covered up???

I think it sounds quite different and might be good...i'm slightly more upbeat about this project now
Lucifer_666

A new  trailer for.......A Nightmare On Elm Street remake
