London

I was in London for most of yesterday as I was going to watch Liverpool at West Ham, and having been to this game annually for a few years now I'm beginning to notice a few things about the city itself. I'll admit from the start that it isn't the sort of place I would choose to live in- it's far too congested for a start, and there's a real inconsistency in quality of life for rich and poor or so it seems. There are loads of well designed homes and buildings but on the other hand some areas are downright grimey and it saddens me to see people having to live in such places while the 'fatcats' milk their bigger salaries and better jobs in their mini-palaces!

The sight of cars everywhere was quite sobering too- although there were a handful of cyclists on the roads it seems very few people walk anywhere- maybe its just me as I'm quite used to walking around day to day to get to places independently but it just seems that as a city London is one massively populated traffic jam........and that to me is just plain mad, however as I call a relatively small village home its possible I'm just a tad incredulous at what the ordinary Londoner must take for granted. It just seems to me that the place is mostly roads and motorways, maybe needed as it's the nation's capital but to me it just seems sad that the city's been reduced to what is basically a massive service road. Undeniably it does have some top attractions and for that people should be grateful but I don't believe for a second that most would actually choose to live in London unless circumstances dictated they had to, I certainly wouldn't be comfortable there- all that congestion, no real personal space and Boris Johnson as mayor are just three reasons why I wouldn't make the place a first choice home destination..........

London's a vibrant city with lots going on and it must be wonderful having so many attractions, museums, art galleries, theatres, shops and the like, but I wouldn't like to live there either. It's ok to visit but it's far too crowded and busy for my liking!

Yeh, its jam packed with people and that to me isn't good- I do like a bit of personal space. One of my pet hates is overcrowding and it seems London is used as the dumping ground for employees of big businesses and those who've just entered the country.......

It certainly seems to be the main choice of people coming to the UK - I don't know how they find places to live, it's so overcrowded. I'm the same for liking my own personal space - to be surrounded by so many people would be my worst nightmare!
Emperor Morphetine

Overcrowding is just plain wrong not to mention uncomfortable for people like me, it just seems that one place can't possibly easily house so many people at any one time, its not natural. I can't see why so many find it desirable, when I come to find my own house and all that it shall probably be somewhere a lot quieter and away from all the stereotypical city types.

People see London as a place of opportunity, where they can find work easily, and, in the case of migrants, earn a lot more money than they would in their own countries. Plus, people like our history, traditions and pageantry and want to be a part of it, so I can understand why they want to live in London. There has to come a time when London can't be expanded any more though!
Emperor Morphetine

Well, yeh- its just not possible to house everyone who wants to live there after all!
