Keys and White for new Bond theme

Alicia Keys and Jack White will perform the first Bond theme duet when they sing "Another Way to Die" for the upcoming Quantum of Solace.

British artists Leona Lewis, Amy Winehouse and Duffy were rumoured to be in contention to sing the theme.

Sounds like it could be a good one, I like Jack's work with the White Stripes.
Lucifer_666

Ahhhhh Brilliant!!!!        I love the White Stripes ...though is poor Meg being left out??

Catnapper

There's no word about her Luc but surely she'd be included somehow?
JohnG

I think Meg is having some time off as she was suffering from anxiety attacks or something similar.  I may be wrong but I think the White stripes had to cancel a tour because of it.
I love the White Stripes, I saw them in Blackpool a couple of years ago and they were amazing.  This Keys/White collaboration sounds interesting, I can see them producing something that's very soulful and bluesy with a dark edge to it.
Catnapper

Oh yeah you're right John   ....I remember reading about their tour being cancelled because she was suffering from acute anxiety so that's probably why she's not doing the song.

I never thought I'd see White Stripes and Blackpool in the same sentence
JohnG

Yeah they played in the Empress ballroom at the Winter gardens.  They filmed it and released it on DVD: "The Whites Stripes under Blackpool Lights" (I still try and spot me and Shaz in the audience, but no luck as of yet).  It's a very gothic old fashioned ballroom so it's very 'White Stripes'.  We also saw The Scissor Sisters there, as well, and Derren Brown.
Catnapper

Oh I love The Scissor Sisters     are they as much fun in real life John?

I'd be scared going to see Derren Brown in case I got hypnotised   Did you volunteer for any of his routines?!
JohnG

The Scissor Sisters are fabulous live, really lively and friendly with the audience, we saw them at Glastonbury as well.
Derren Brown is amazing, he must be a witch or a dark wizard or something.  His act mainly uses members of the audience and what he can do with them is astounding.  To pick members of the audience he throws frisbees out and whoever catches them are picked so there is no way he could have planted stooges.  Shaz was gutted that she didn't catch one, as she was dying to get on stage (that's mainly coz she fancies the pants off him).  His shows are highly recommended.

Was 'Live At Blackpool Lights' where they did the rather unlikely cover of Dolly Parton's 'Jolene'? I heard that and thought it was rather odd!
JohnG

Yeah, I remember them doing that version of Jolene.  It was fantastic!  I know what you mean, it is a strange song to do, but I think it works.  Jack sings it with such passion, and he doesn't change the gender of the recipient of the song; he's pleading to a woman not to take his man.
I have to admit that one of my bug-bears is when a man/woman sings a song originally done by a woman/man and they change the lyrics to accomodate their own gender. I hate the Carpenters singing "... he's got a ticket to ride"... It's not "he's" it's "she's".
I play guitar in pubs (occasionally) and I play songs written by female singer/songwriters but I always sing original lyrics (my favourite is Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow which is basically a girl asking a guy if he will still love her after a bit of how's yer father, and I always sing it from the girls point of view... It's story-telling)

I really do rate the White Stripes, no one plays rock quite like they do! My favourite albums of theirs are 'Elephant' and 'Icky Thump' and I like some of the covers they've done throughout their time- ' I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' and 'Conquest' are fantastic, and I really want to hear their rare EP of Captain Beefheart cover songs.
JohnG

Conquest is a magnificent song, it's so epic (Coldplay could learn a thing or two from the White Stripes).  I didn't know about the Beefheart EP, that sounds interesting.  Do you like The Raconteurs?  Their last single, Many Shades of Black, was awesome.
Lucifer_666

I'm a fan of the Whites Stripes myself....they are very good
Emperor Morphetine

Too right they are- I found a selection of their best stuff just for you guys and my own listening pleasure ( with a few of their obscure covers thrown in for fun)-

I never knew they'd covered that Dusty Springfield song before!
Lucifer_666

Yeah babe and its pretty good too isn't it?

Good selection there bud.....I love the Blue Orchid video
Emperor Morphetine

Well, I tried to pick a good selection- I like 'Seven Nation Army' in particular although they've done some cracking stuff. Thought I'd chuck in some random selections too ( the last three are Captain Beefheart covers and 'Walking With A Ghost' was originally by a Canadian pop duo, Tegan & Sara.
