Journey To The Centre Of The Earth (3D)- A Review

On a whim, this afternoon I decided to go and see 'Journey To The Centre Of The Earth' ( an adaptation of the Jules Verne novel). Brendan Fraser plays Trevor, a volcanologist battling to save his (presumed missing) brother's research laboratory. His nephew Sean (Josh Hutcherson) comes to stay with him Upon the boy's arrival he's given a box of Max ( his brother's) possessions. Among them is a copy of Verne's novel which upon closer inspection Trevor and Sean find to contain notes written by Max which indicate that he believed that the book was in fact based in truth.

But to find out the pair must journey to Iceland, where they meet fellow volcanologist Hannah ( the lovely Anita Briem), who is the daughter of another scientist presumed missing after he too set out to prove to the world that the novel was telling some kind of truth. And so the adventure begins ( I don't want to spoil it for you!). But what I will say is this- see it in 3D if you can, it's an amazing spectacle and well worth it. But if you can't it doesn't really make that much difference, it's still an enjoyable few hours of entertainment if you just sit back and switch off.

What is the new 3D like Morphy anyway? I hear its mean't to be great....are the glasses better? They are clear lenses now aren't they? None of this red and Blue crap?

The film sounds very good too

Well, basically you're given a pair of glasses ( which actually look like sunglasses, no red/green lenses) and a message comes up after the trailers telling you to put them on, enabling you to see the various visual effects on show. I noticed that if you take the glasses off at any point there is a real difference in picture quality. I'd really encourage people to go for the 3D experience, it sounds like it'll become the done thing in the near future, apparently a lot more films that take advantage of the technology are in production for future release.

Oh I heard there wasn't meant to be a difference when you take off the glasses during it but there is?    that sounds very like the old 3D to me....

Is there a big difference in this 3D bud and the old 3D?  you definitely sound lke you enjoyed it

Yeh I did, it was great! It certainly seems that the new 3D technology is a vast improvement on what passed for 3D before, it looks so real that you do actually find yourself physically responding when it looks like something's coming out of the screen at you. The glasses are a lot better too, I liked the fact that I didn't have to take my ordinary glasses off to use them as they seem to be designed to look like a pair of sunglasses.

Brill bud ....sounds the business!!! I remember ages back us all talking about this new 3d  technology on the BBC and that the directors were very interested in using it back then.... I guess we are going to see more and more of these films... .though where I'm from they probably won't get in the technology in to utilse it

I think its a selective process at the moment, they only choose to use 3D capabilities in bigger cinemas which is a shame.

Yep
