How not to run a university course.......

This has gone on long enough and I'm sick of it! I'm hopefully taking the second part of a Production Project class as an option once the new term starts, and having done the assessments and most of the planning in part one I now find myself having to go here there and everywhere in search of help just to get a list of equipment I'll need to help me record and edit my planned piece of work- a radio documentary on alternative music locally.

I explained to the tutor that I was a disabled student and as such could possibly get funding from a local education centre for equipment amongst other things, and asked him if he would support any application I made. He said that yes he would and would get straight on to the centre to make arrangements, so I left it at that for a few weeks.

I then returned and asked how things were going. He said he hadn't been able to do anything yet despite assurances made to me by the centre that they had contacted him but he was yet to respond. Now I can appreciate that he has other students to deal with but how hard is it to send an email or pick up a phone when you have time?

As yet I still have nothing and have now got the disabled student services co-ordinator and Arts faculty administrator involved in a bid to help me get what I want- all I need is a list of the recommended kit so that I can put in an application, hopefully get the equipment and start recording.

If not I do worry that I'll be left behind and maybe even miss a deadline unless something is done soon, even though I've done a lot of running around, sent a lot of emails (both to do with all this and to bands/artists/promoters I hope to interview and use music from) and pestered a lot of people. The whole thing is just getting silly now and I need a resolution!

That must be so frustrating when you're wanting to crack on with the project. Has he given anyone else a list that you could copy? You'd think he'd have a stockpile of lists he could hand out to students so they could source the equipment

Are there any books in the uni library you could look at to get an idea of the equipment you'd need?

He hasn't sent round a list, no, which you think he might've done as it seems a sensible enough idea. I did look at a book called 'Radio Production' from the library for practical tips and now I've got an idea of what I'll need, I just need to know if there are any specific bts of kit he recommends or that have been set by the university as suitable for use.

I've got a Video Production Handbook but of course that's more about use in film and tv rather than radio! I hope he gets back to you soon with the list.....I know he might be busy but he should have things better organised considering it's vital for your degree.

thats a damned nuisance by the sounds of it    hopefully you'll get sorted soon

Hopefully, yeah- I've got enough people on his case now!
