GTA 4 Best Game in Ten Years!!I cannot wait for the new GTA game to be released now.....Take-Two announced that Grand Theft Auto IV would be released on 29 April 2008...So basically it will be this day next month
Here's some stuff about the new game.....
Gameplay
Niko will be able to perform a variety of new actions such as climbing telephone poles and fire escapes, pushing people who bump into him, calling women for dates, playing darts and bowling. Niko may become intoxicated by which the character stumbles and the blurry camera bounces about.
The player will not be able to fly any fixed-wing aircraft. However, helicopters will be flyable. Francis International Airport (from Grand Theft Auto III) is confirmed to be in the game.
It is possible to have multiple active missions, due to the fact that some missions will run over the course of several days and will require the player to wait for further instructions, etc.
The use of the mobile phone has been expanded to perform multiple actions. When selecting the mobile phone, a zoomed-in version of the phone pops up in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and a list of several commands are made available to the player, such as "meet me here," etc. Retrying a failed mission can be performed by accessing the menu. The phone can be used outside of vehicles to listen to one of the 18 radio stations. The player can take photos with the mobile phone and
upload them to the police computer. Niko can dial 911 to call the police for them to arrest an enemy/pedestrian that is fighting/shooting at him, or just to trick them into wasting resources on a false alarm. He can also contact the paramedics and the fire station.
Stealing a parked car can no longer be done simply by opening the door and driving off. Now, it involves Niko approaching the car, breaking the glass, and hotwiring it; only then can he use it. The way Niko enters the car would look different each time depending on where and how he is in relation to the car. There will be several animation variations to sneaking up to a car and breaking its window. Because of the Euphoria engine, the way the character will approach the car will be completely random.
Players will be able to choose from five different camera views while in a car, including a dashboard view, two outside views near and far from the car, a road view, and a cinematic view.
All cars feature a standard GPS device while more expensive vehicles have voice-navigation GPS. Car damage physics have been greatly improved. When major collisions on motorbikes occur, the player's helmet is likely to fall off.
Niko can lose health if he crashes. Vehicles will not explode if they are flipped over.
When driving in a car the player will be able to smash the window with his elbow, free-aim, and fire out of the broken window with any weapon in Niko's arsenal.
The gunfight system has been reworked to feel natural by using a cover system similar to that of Gears of War and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the reason being that the combat system in previous games was awkward and cumbersome. The player can slide to cover, blind fire, and free aim. When locked on, the target's health is indicated by eight purple segments on the target circle. Players can now target individual body parts using a revamped targeting system. Niko's health is represented by a green semi-circle on the left side of the radar, and a right semi-circle represents armour. If Niko gets injured, he can recover health by eating, sleeping or using medical kits. Body armour and actual health will play different roles. Health is more likely to be reduced by falls and going through the windscreen of a car when crashing, Body armour will be damaged
more by gunshots and stab wounds.
Notable weapons in this game other than melee fighting with fists and knives include pistols, Uzis, assault rifles, sniper rifle, rocket launchers, and molotov cocktails.
NPC behaviour
Police and wanted levels will now operate differently. When the police are in search of Niko, the player will now have to avoid a certain radius marked on the map in which the police will be looking for him. The size of this radius will increase with the player's wanted level (the more stars, the bigger the radius) and re-centres itself on Niko's location if he is spotted by the police. Instead of utilizing the "Pay 'N' Spray" as in previous games, Niko has to realistically disguise himself by clandestinely changing vehicles in empty areas such as parking garages, a feature seen in the video game Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. When on foot, police will not shoot at Niko unless he has committed a serious offence. If they catch up to Niko, he will put his hands up and the player has a chance to run away. Additionally, pedestrians with cellphones can now report crimes. The player also now has the option when arrested to attempt to escape before the handcuffs are slapped on.
Interpersonal relationships are now dynamic; ignoring cell phone calls or refusing help will change the attitude of specific characters towards Niko.
Pedestrians are much more intelligent, realistic, and diverse, using mobile phones, cash machines, eating snacks, drinking soda, reading newspapers, scratching their noses, coughing, smoking, and interacting with each other through laughter and remarks. Homeless people will be seen in alleys rubbing their hands over a flaming barrel, sitting against walls, asking for spare change, and other expected actions. The flow of pedestrians and traffic will be different depending on the time of day. Pedestrians and motorists will often act as good Samaritans and aid characters that Niko is attacking or carjacking.
Environment
Niko's outfit can be changed throughout the game. However, it will not be possible to customise his physique or hairstyle as in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, as Dan Houser explained: "We want this installment to focus more on interacting with other in-game people other than yourself."
Heavy fire will scar – and permanently destroy – parts of the environment. It is possible to shoot through walls with powerful weapons.
When Niko goes to the hospital, he has to pay $100 and he will keep his weapons. When Niko gets arrested, he has to pay more than $100 and he will lose his weapons.
In a police vehicle, Niko can use an in-car computer to access the criminal database and discover information about various criminals in Liberty City, possibly including himself.
The player can hail a cab in order to travel to any address in the city. When riding, the player has the option of viewing the journey from the inside, or skipping it to arrive at the destination immediately. The player will be able to ask the driver to change the radio station by pressing D-pad left or right.
Niko will make use of the Internet as a means of communication. Although the exact details of the role of the Internet in the game are being kept secret, it has been revealed that Niko can access the internet from various cyber cafés, one of which is called "TW@" (twat) in order to upload a resume for prospective employers. There are over 100 accessible, fictitious websites within the game. Although TW@ was seen early in Grand Theft Auto III, it did not give the player the option to "surf the internet".
Every street in the game will have a name; some missions will require the player to go to a specific address.
There is now an autosave that activates after completing a mission.
A day in Liberty City is forty-eight minutes long, instead of twenty-four as in previous Grand Theft Auto titles (one game hour lasts two minutes in real time).
Some meetings in the game will take place high in the buildings of skyscrapers, which will subsequently allow Niko to throw people off the buildings. However, Niko will not be able to access all the buildings in the game.
Soundtrack
Philip Glass, the composer of the music used in the original trailer, is rumoured to be involved in the production of GTA IV's soundtrack. The soundtrack was described as "modern and suits the mood perfectly." Glass's "Pruit-Igoe" theme from Koyaanisqatsi was used for the teaser trailer.
Dan Houser has said that Rockstar is "certainly evolving the way the radio works". According to Official Xbox Magazine, one of the radio stations includes an "Eastern European-sounding" dancing theme. Other music announced as a placeholder for the press includes Russian and East Coast hip hop. The range of music in GTA IV will span different decades and genres, the first track shown to the media was "Sorrow Tears and Blood" by Fela Kuti, and while there is no official word on whether it will be in the final release of the game
Various media outlets have reported on the quality of GTA IV's advanced sound engine. One describes the realism of the traffic noise on the streets, noting the "varying volume and intensity of car horns and the constant hum of traffic", as well as "the frequent deafening rattle of trains hurtling through the subway."[12] As part of GTA IV's new physics, the player will be able to hear and feel the bass of vehicles passing by with their radio turned on.
There will be eighteen radio stations in the game. As of 24 March, four of these have been revealed, including IF99, a funk music station, Vladivostok FM, a "Post-communist community radio" station featuring eastern European pop music, WKTT (We Know The Truth) Talk Radio, a right-wing talk radio, and disco station K109 - The Studio.
The final trailer features artist Mavado singing a custom version of his song "Real McKoy" over the Anger Management Riddim.
I love the idea that they have changed the gunfighting and targeting in this new one because they were right that was awkward in the previous ones and its great that you can now take cover
I also like the idea of the change in the wanted levels and the new radius thing to avoid the cops
The whole breaking into the car 'literally' now will be cool too...this looks like it will be the best one yet
Check out these great trailers that are featured in the game and advetises places and people within....I literally can't wait to get drunk in the Steinway Beer Gardens

This is a review from a guy who got a sneak peak and go on GTA 4...sounds great!!!
| Ain't it Cool.com wrote: | I'm sitting on a sofa at Rockstar Games. A pile of magazines sits in front of me with nothing but
cover stories about Grand Theft Auto 4. Across from me is a row of arcade games. Golden Tee, some classics and a "The
Warriors" arcade with 30 buttons on it. It seems that only 5 of these cabinets were made.
I sit and read through an EGM while NWA pumps in the lobby. I'm trying to calm myself down. How did I end up at one of the
most popular developers in the world?? Soon enough, PR man Steve and the VP of Development (and a guy who helped create
Rockstar) Jeronimo Barrera show up, shake hands, and whisk me in to a private room / theater with couches, a surround sound
setup, a bigass HD TV and GRAND THEFT AUTO 4.
A little backstory for you. I've mentioned in some of my other articles how I was a huge gamer as a kid. The staff at Skaggs
used to have to drag a chair over to the Ikari Warriors machine so I could see the screen while my parents went shopping. I
was 5 and could easily outlast anyone who joined in cooperatively with me. From then I went to the NES and graduated to the
SNES and Genesis like most kids of my generation.
Sometime around my freshman year of high school I hit super-nerdom and stumbled into the world of BBSes and made friends
through the computer. (computer friends?) These encounters led to lan parties. At one of these lan parties, towards the end
of a marathon Quake match someone brought out a new top-down racing/shooting game called Grand Theft Auto.
I fell in love pretty quickly. Sliding around corners in the cars, running over entire cults...it was all too much. I've
been with the series since the beginning and I had heard nothing but good things about 4.
So here I am, getting to see the next great thing to come out of Rockstar and talking with one of the head guys in charge of
the universe in which GTA exists.
Let me tell you...this game is f*cking awesome.
We pretty much dove right in. Steve lead the way at first, showing off some of the cooler aspects of the game. He got to
talking about your cell phone, which is pretty much the hub of your existence in GTA4. If you want missions, look to your
phone, if you want to call a friend to bring you a weapon or a car, use your phone. If you want to jump on multiplayer, use
the phone. (More on that later)
One of the cooler things about the phone was the ability to tag a song. You may have heard of Rockstar and Amazon teaming
up to bring you the music from GTA4...your phone is the key to that exchange. If you hear a song on the radio you like, you
dial a special number and a text message appears notifying you of the song title and artist. If you are a member of the
Rockstar Social Club an email is sent to you with a link to your songs of choice on Amazon for purchase.
To me, THIS is what the next generation of games is all about. Connecting your virtual experience to a real-world experience.
..and Rockstar is doing this in spades.
The main character of the game is Niko, an Eastern European, ex-soldier who has come to Liberty City to meet up with his
cousin Roman. Roman has talked of America and how he is living the good life in Liberty City. Of course, when Niko shows up,
it turns out to be an enormous lie. Roman runs a cab stand and is in trouble with all kinds of seedy figures within Liberty
City.
Steve started walking Niko through the city while he spoke to me about various features in the game...more music than ever...
lots of Eastern European music that hasn't been released in America...very cool stuff. But perhaps the coolest thing I saw
while he was playing was when he stopped touching the controller. Niko stood still while Steve was occupied with something
and right there, a taxi got rear-ended by another car.
What followed was pure magic.
The cabbie and the guy who hit the taxi jumped out of their cars and approached each other. Once they got in to each others'
face the fists started flying. Meanwhile, cars are honking for the two vehicles to get out of the way. The two keep slugging
away and a cop pulls up. He jumps out with his pistol drawn and both men throw their hands to the sky, surrendering. The
cop then drags the cabbie away (he punched first), puts him in the backseat of the cop car and drives off. The other driver
returns to his car, gets in and pulls away.
Holy shit.
This whole routine was not staged...it just happened, and we were just there in the right spot to catch it all.
Stuff like that...subtle things, like bumping in to someone with your shoulder makes them give you a dirty look as they
walk past...authentic dialects from all over the world...all of this makes this game excellent.
We kicked off a mission to pick up a character named Little Jacob. Jacob is a Jamaican friend of Roman's who deals with guns
and smokes a lot of pot. While en route to a destination, Jacob started hotboxing the car. At this point I busted out a
window in the vehicle and smoke started coming out. If the Devil is in the details then GTA 4 must be Satan himself.
I asked a lot of questions that couldn't be answered, but one of the cooler Easter Eggs was shown to me. Towards the end of
one particular mission, Niko ends up next to a burnt-out and run down mansion...the Salvatore's mansion from GTA3. Pretty
sweet little egg for us super-dorks who've played all the games. Jeronimo said there were more recognizable features in the
game for long-time fans, but he didn't go in to details.
I played the single-player mode for maybe two hours at most, and I could write pages and pages about it all. The handling of
vehicles feels more authentic now...the cab rides you can take to any point in the city...cars backfiring in the shittier
areas of Liberty City...the water that looks so damn real...this game is so full of detail it is astounding. The gunplay in
the game has been completely reworked and seems very similar to the locking-target style of shooting from Crackdown. There
is also a cover mechanism you can utilize in tight situations. You can slide in to cover to protect yourself from incoming
bullets...you can blindfire over cover to try to pick off enemies.
This game is so rich in detail...I have no idea how the hell they packed it all in to one single disc.
We took a short break after all this madness and then stepped in to the next room over where four Xbox 360s and four
big-screen LCDs were lined up on a table. It was time to jump in to some multiplayer.
We were going to do some 4 on 4 matches with another group of Rockstar employees somewhere else in the building. There are
a bunch of different multiplayer modes, but we were only going to check out a few of them. GTA4 supports up to 16 players
online, but only through Live or the Playstation Network...there is no local multiplayer.
I created a character as the host set up the options. The creation is pretty simple...pick a head, a body, sex, outfit...the
more you play and rank up, the more options you have to customize your character. Let me also say that the amount of options
the host can set up are enormous. You can choose where you want to play within Liberty City, from a tiny area to the entire
map. Of course, there are no invisible walls, so if you want to jump in a helicopter and buzz off to another side of the
city, you can...but weapons and health only respawn in the area that is decided by the host.
You can tweak everything from pedestrians to traffic to police presence to time of day. Very customizable. We started out
with good ole Team Deathmatch. As soon as we kicked off the match, Jeronimo told us all to meet him at the shore where he
had stolen a boat. Eventually all four of us were being chased on the water by another boat full of Rockstar folks with
rocket launchers and snipers...many laughs and swears were thrown about.
Another deathmatch started us off with nothing but rocket launchers at the airport. Again, we all jumped in to helicopters
and buzzed our way towards the high-rises of downtown. I can't express to you how badass a rocket launcher fight is at the
top of the Empire State building.
After deathmatching it up, we jumped in to what could be my favorite multiplayer gametype in GTA 4: Cops & Crooks. Cops &
Crooks is just that, one group of cops, one group of baddies. The object of the crooks is to escort a "boss" (randomly
selected) to an extraction point somewhere in the city. The crooks' map is marked with this location, but the cops do not
show up. The cops on the other hand have the location of the crooks on their maps, but not the extraction point. What
follows is a race to see which side can obliterate the other first.
During a round where we were the cops, Jeronimo pointed out a neat feature to me. If you aren't driving, but are in a car,
you can set a way point for the driver. So, if you are a passenger with the cops heading towards the crooks, you can pop
open the map from the menu and set a way point right on top of where the crooks are located. This then is seen by everyone
in the car, including the driver. That way the driver never has to lose focus of what they are doing and everyone gets a
chance to help out. Simple, but badass.
The cops definitely have the advantage in this mode...of the four rounds we played, none of the crooks managed to escape.
This game type is awesome.
After that was the most obvious of multiplayer game types...the race...GTA style. Griefers are going to have a f*cking field
day with this one.
The host again gets to select the route and the class of vehicle everyone gets to start with (you choose specific vehicles
within the class) and you proceed to race each other. Simple as that...except add a bunch of weapons and grenades in to the
mix.
We kicked off our 8 player race in a park area of Liberty City. It was a figure 8 course with everyone in some pretty badass
rides. What started out as a pretty uneventful blast through the park turned on a dime when one of the people in last place
ditched his sports car for a city bus...and then parked it in front of a bottleneck. Gunfire and grenades ensued all while
cars were trying to pound their way through the rest of the course.
This happened again on the next course through an airport...at a bottleneck one of the players jumped off his motorcycle
and started building a roadblock...and murdered everyone that tried to get through. It was awesome. Oh yeah, and when you
respawn, you spawn with a Faggio. The Vespa-like scooter. It is embarrassing.
The final mode we took a crack at was a cooperative mode called "The Hangman's NOOSE." Only four players could join in on
the fun of cooperative play though.
The object is to escort an NPC mob boss from the airport to a set location within the city. There are absolutely no
designated ways to do this...we went at it twice. The first time was pretty traditional, three of us fought off police
officers while the fourth grabbed an armored vehicle and got the VIP in to it safely. We then all jumped aboard and fired
at police while hauling ass through the city to the rendezvous point.
Our second attempt was a bit more action-movie-esque. We stalled the cops long enough to grab a helicopter and snatch the
VIP...but one of us didn't make it and he had to jump on a motorcycle and haul ass with the police in tow. What followed
was the chopper above the motorcycle with us trying to shoot at police cars behind him so he wouldn't get taken out
before reaching the final destination. It was intense.
The multiplayer aspect of GTA4 is going to have people going berserk when this thing launches in a few weeks. Recently
Rockstar updated their website to include all of the multiplayer modes and give you a peek at a few more characters. Go
check it out...in fact the whole GTA4 site is pretty badass.
I could double the length of this article talking more about the game, it got me that jazzed...and I only played it for
maybe three and a half hours. I'm hoping against hope to get my hands on a review copy of the game to check out the story
...so we'll see about that.
Also, I've got another article heading your way where I talk with Jeronimo Barrera and relay the questions you guys offered
me a couple of weeks ago. He's an interesting dude and I think you'll be happy with some of the answers he offers up.
To sum it all up...Grand Theft Auto 4 will beat the record set by Halo 3 for most single-day media sales in ANY form. At
least...that is what I think. We'll all get a chance to see on April 29th when this beast hits shelves. I can't f*cking wait. |

Now we've all had a fair bit of time to play it, what are peoples impressions and how far in is everybody?

will get a shot of this tomorrow

Well I have about 80 missions done and about 60% of the game completed...Personally I love the game I think its visually fantastic...nothing looks more amazing then to go up on the helicopter at night throught the city skyscrapers...its great!!
I think the story and characters are exellent aswell and draw you in and keep you interested in how it plays out...
In fact the only real complaint I have with the game is that you can't buy properties like previous GTA's ...I feel its an awful waste of my money I have it there and nothing to use it on In previous games I owned niteclubs, stripjoints, a Mansion, etc ...I do reckon though that that will change in the next installment whenever that comes
|
Jipdog
|
I'm about 25% in and, although I'm enjoying it a great deal, to me it doesn't feel that much different from previous ones. Granted, the storylines decent and the graphics are good but it feels the same.
|
Lucifer_666
|
Well I suppose they have to keep the same kind of feel to the previous games too but I too think its a vast improvement even if you take into account the fighting system now which has been completely overhauled and is much better that you can take cover behind anything....San Andreas I found hard to get into but this one has definitely lured me in...Have you reached the other parts of the city Jip?....like main New York? Because you start out in the kind of Brooklyn area which
is very like previous games but when you hit the main streets of the big apple it really stands out..well it did for me
|
Jipdog
|
Not yet Luc. Just got burnt out of the apartment and Romans cab firm.
|
big aundy
|
what an amazing game
|
Lucifer_666
|
I reckon you'll love the other parts of the city Jipdog....are you using any of the cheats?
Did you play it Sta??
|
Jipdog
|
No, no trying to keep this one cheat free until I reach a point and get the hump and just want to do stupid stuff.
|
Lucifer_666
|
I had planned doing that too but the urge became too much for me the cheats are much handier now to implement aswell....they are no longer a combination of controller buttons but dialed in phone numbers on your mobile phone....but the good thing is once you dial in a cheat you can then go to 'Cheats' in your phone menu and they are stored there for quick access
|
big aundy
|
yup i had a go , brillaint graphics , game play was speed awesome , and standing on the room killin guys with sniper rifle was mental watching them fall and splat on the ground , simply the best game out
|
Lucifer_666
|
Yeah its great bud....if you get the chance again you should add the cheat for an armed police helicopter and take it into Main New York particualrly before they open up that part in the game all the alarms will fire up and you immediately get six stars with police shooting from roofs while other helicopters close in for the kill as you fly between the skyscrapers...its great fun
Have any of you even just watched telly in it.....you can literally sit and watch it like normal telly...there is always something new...different ads programmes (you can change the view of the telly too while watching to have it more or less full screen)
I love the game I think its great
|
big aundy
|
see i told everyone , but no one would listen , the PS3 is the daddy , just wait till they start using loads of memory on blu ray the games will be almost virtual , i swear the ps3 is the ultimate console
|
Lucifer_666
|
Yeah but the thing is mate that the XBox360 version of the game is practically identical and in fact although ps3 is a much better machine the XBOX may actually end up holding back alot of these games because they are building them to work on both consoles and that limits how far they can go.....I wish Rockstar went back to only making GTA for playstation like it used to then they could really utilise its capabilities
|
Jipdog
|
Damn it, Luc! I ended up using the helicopter cheat and now I can't be bothered playing the game properly, which is the exact reason why I didn't want to use the smegging cheats! Git!
|
Lucifer_666
|
Its not my fault
The cheats are very handy though
