Gene Hackman announces retirementHe says he's retiring from acting to concentrate on his writing. He's already had 3 historical novels published and says he doesn't want to end up playing "Grandfathers or doddering old men"

Oh thats a pity...I like Gene Hackman but I suppose he does have a point....he is coming on now in age but you would imagine he'd still get the old head mobster part?
I didn't know he wrote books though??

I didn't know he wrote books either......he's a talented man!
I think he's 78 now....which doesn't seem possible When I read he was retiring I thought it was a shame he wouldn't be Lex Luthor again in any new Superman movie....then I remembered it was Kevin Spacey who played Lex in the last film Gene Hackman will always be Lex to me!

Yep he will always be Lex Luther to me too...he was grewat in the part
And it is a sad day Jipdog but prehaps if the right part comes around he'll act again in something??

Hooray! Carlos will be pleased, he's always hated Gene Hackman.
I'm interested to see that he is a novelist though, perhaps I should swap tips with him

And you definitely know him Gellarbing...Popeye Doyle? Lex Luther in Superman movies?, Crimson Tide?, Mississippi Burning?

It looks like he's retired cause he doesn't have any films listed in production or even in pre-production. He's a good actor and it's a shame he won't be making more films but even actors have to retire sometime! Maybe he'd do a cameo part every now and then if the film appeals to him?

Yeah I guess he has got to do what he wants....its just that most actors usually want to continue on acting but I guess if he enjoys writing and has made his money now....well good luck to him

He could always go into screenwriting or even adapt one of his novels for tv or the movies. Or go the Clint Eastwood rote and direct movies too?

If you ever get a chance to see any of the other films there you should though Gellarbing ....they really are classic films and he is exellent in them
Can I ask one thing though??...How have you not seen a Superman film?? ....they are on every Christmas?
