Ferris Bueller Sequel Rumoured???

There are again rumors that a sequel is being planned. According to HSX, Writer-Director John Hughes and star Matthew Broderick are rumored to be teaming up again for the sequel to 1986's classic rules-breaking, play-hooky-from-school-and-suffer-no-consequences comedy, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Ferris, now 15 years older and working at a large firm in Chicago, remains the rebel at heart, as he is bent on playing hooky again, this time from work.

Now this is far from the first rumour that there has been about this possible sequel and I'm just wondering to myself is this the same one that is apparently written by Rick Rapier entitled Ferris Bueller 2 Another Day Off?

Here's a quote about it from Cinematical.com

Cinematical.com wrote:
Titled Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off, the proposed sequel takes place on the eve of Bueller's fortieth birthday. Spears, a major Hughes enthusiast, calls Rapier's script "a blast. I read it in a single afternoon and was impressed with the care Rapier took with the original story and characters. The story has the same feel, humor and pace as the 1986 movie, which should please hard-core Ferris fans." The storyline finds Ferris 20 years older and living off a hugely successful self-help career, a la Tony Robbins. His best friend Cameron (played in '86 by Alan Ruck) manages the business. Turning 40 shakes Ferris up, and he decides to take the day off, "sending Cameron, his business associates and family into a frenzy." In addition to Ferris and Cameron, most of the supporting characters are in the script. Sloane Peterson (played in '86 by Mia Sara) is now "a Hollywood star going through a rough marriage." Ferris' sister Jeannie (Jennifer Grey) is now married to the guy from the police station (Charlie Sheen). Rooney (Jeffrey Jones) doesn't work for
the school anymore, but has devoted his life to getting revenge on Ferris (What's he going to do at this point, murder him?).
Even Ben Stein's character is in there, now working at an airline.

Okay I can already see the replies to this.....words like.... NOOOooooo!!...Or..... bad idea!!...or.... I hope they don't....or They'll ruin the original!!

And I share many of the concerns but I think the biggest trouble I have with a possible Ferris sequel set in a future employment is that you expect Ferris to have it all worked out by this stage in his life...he's so ahead of the rest in the original film that you expect him to have made millions by this stage and able to do what he likes but in these sequel plots it kind of presumes that we swallow that Ferris has allowed himself to be still stuck in the system with everyone else that he needs to then take a break and bump off again...as much in a way I would like to see Ferris return..to do so would kind of make me feel like he has under-achieved considering his potential as a teen....perhaps I'm just thinking too much about this

I think it could work Luc......if it was a remake there's no way they could top the original film, but having Ferris "living off a hugely successful self-help career" means he'll have acheived success and feels settled. Then hitting 40 makes him restless again and he'll be wondering if there's more to life so he sets out to have fun!

Yep I have to say babe I am open minded about it I know lots are annoyed about this ....all you have to do is type it in on google to see all the responses....most get annoyed at the mere mention of the possibility but if done right with an original script and not a copy of the first film it might be quite good   time will tell I suppose...John Hughes would have to direct too and the original cast back...wouldn't be right otherwise

I like how it's still about Ferris and it's not about him having a son who acts the way he did in the original film. Ferris having a midlife crisis could lead to all kinds of funny situations

It could alright babe... I do think though in the back of my mind...surely Ferris would have everything in his life sorted by now...then again perhaps they will have him quite ambitious which is why he is still working for someone else
