Elton's Political Photo Correctness???A photograph at the centre of a child pornography investigation belongs to Sir Elton John, his website states. "Klara and Edda belly-dancing" by Nan Goldin was seized by police from Gateshead's Baltic Centre on 20 September, the singer's spokesman said.
The image of two naked young girls is part of an exhibition owned by Sir Elton, which is on loan to the Baltic.
A spokesman for the singer said the photograph had been exhibited around the world without objections.
Northumbria Police were alerted by Baltic managers the day before five collections were due to be unveiled.
A statement on the singer's website said the image, part of the Thanksgiving exhibition, was from a monograph of the American photographer's works entitled "The Devil's Playground".
Yes this to me is just another example of how crazed everyone has all become about these issues.......its pure madness that any photos or even paintings of naked Children is seen in a sexual way....its really stupid
Elton John is well know for his love of Photography art and has loads of photographs that he displays all the time in public
this also follows a few years ago back in 2001, when police were called to the Saatchi Gallery in north London after complaints that controversial photographs, taken by artists including Goldin, were indecent.
I think we willl look back at this time and think we were being ludicrous after all not every man or even the majority of men have lustful thoughts when they see photos like this but the reactions of Polkice and others give that impression

That was the exhibition I saw at the weekend (pile of shite it was too). There were quite a few sexually explicit photos which were supposedly just family snapshots, funny people if you ask me!! One of the photos in question shows a young girl sitting with her legs spread open for all to see. Even if it's not meant as child porn some people will get a kick out of it and why have it as part of an exhibition anyway?

But Honey this is my point some paedo could get turned on by seeing a baby in a nappy or a young girl in jeans do we now not show babies with nappies or kids wearing denim?? Many people see photos like that as art and I just feel we are going around second guessing and making big assumptions on what we think may turn these sick people on. and the truth is we can't stop Paedophiles by limiting their views of children...that just won't work and besides why should everyone else who innocently enjoy the art have to be denied for a minority??

You can't seriously think that showing a photo like that is art? It's exploiting a young girl. Taking a photo of naked kids messing about in a paddling pool is one thing but having a girl pose like that is completely different.

I'm saying that many people consider it art......including many women...and just because we may not consider it something worthy of our attention Honey should not mean that we should attach alterior motives to it either after all when we see two naked men it doesn't necessarity mean homosexuality

So if you had a young daughter (and I mean young!) and someone took a photo of her sitting with her legs spread so you could see everything you would think that was OK?

Okay calm down Sta
Thats an unfair question Honey and you know it is... your playing on a Father's or even parent's protective instincts there..
I think if there was a photo taken of a good moment perhaps playing in the bath or something and it inadvertantly (or even that it just didn't shy away from the nudity) and it got a child of mine in a position like that I'd like to think I wouldn't allow myself to get caught up or swayed by small minded people who think every naked child is a lustful object or thinks that paedos are everywhere.
Anyone remember the Vietnam photo with the naked girl running out of the village surrounded by soldiers??? Its a poignant picture about war.....should it now be banned because it may give some sick paedo a hard on?????
