Craven's 25/8 | ain't it cool wrote: | Wes Craven is a wildly uneven director. But when he's firing on all cylinders he's great. I get a really, really good feeling about his next flick 25/8, which feels like it's truly going back to his roots. Sure, it bears more than a passing resemblance to A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (a supposedly dead serial killer going after young teenagers, 7 kids who were born the day he died), but I like that he's casting real young kids, mostly unknowns and I gotta say... I like the premise.
Already in the cast is young Shareeka Epps (HALF NELSON) and Denzel Whitaker (THE GREAT DEBATORS) and now Henry Lee Hopper has joined to play the lead, a character named Bug. Hopper is indeed son of Dennis Hopper. |
Hmmm very like Elm St....it will be interesting to see what he does to make it stand out ...if anything?

Actor Max Thieriot talked about the plot and tone of the new Wes Craven movie, '25/8' and whether this may be return to Freddy Krueger territory for Craven.
"A little bit," Thieriot told them. "It's kind of different though. We have one week left but he hired a completely new crew this time, so that was really different for him, because he usually stuck to the same DP and a lot of the same people.
Completely new crew, but it's a little bit like Freddy Krueger-ish, but it's more like a thriller than horror. I feel Nightmare on Elm Street is cool because it's very smart. It's not just killing. It has a whole back story and this craziness going on, and I think 25/8 has that, too. It's basically about this kid and his life and when he's born, his dad was a serial killer who had multiple personalities and basically, as people start dying in the movie, I start getting multiple personalities, too, because I inherited it from my dad. It's kind of like this crazy plot but the whole time, people are just switching in and out of personalities. You're not really sure who's killing who and it's very cool
I like the sound of it I have to say. ..if done right it could be really good

It's a twist on the usual serial killer scenario........I like the whole multiple personalities storyline so we're never exactly sure which personality is the killer........it could be very good, with lots of twists and turns

Yep I agree babe and if anyone can make a success out of this it is Craven...who although has had some red herrings as also had some great horrors to his name too like Elm St and Scream which were great for their times.

Director Wes Craven says that '25/8' might get a name change
25/8 did seem a bit bland alright ...I wonder what it will be now??

Is 25/8 supposed to be the day he died cause I thought Americans put the date the other way round to us?
Be interesting to see what the new title is!

Oh you could very well be right there babe ....I was thinking it may be something to do with his varied personalties ...yours sounds more plausible

I think I'm wrong Luc......if it was August 25th the day he died, Americans would usually put it as 8/25 not 25/8 It could mean 25 personalities spread over 8 people cause that might make more sense because of the plot!

Think I'm clutching at straws here but when I first saw the title, I thought it was something to do with time. 25 hours a day 8 days a week instead of 24/7. Don't know if it has any relation to what may be in the final story, but that's what jumped out at me

Thats what I thought too Cat but you know Jip you could very well be right there also...I never twigged on the relation with 24/7

Yeah you're right Jip! Wes Craven said it's 25 hours a day 8 days a week and it refers to a line in the film that goes....
"The devil works 24/7 to make our lives hell, so if you want to beat the devil you have to work 25/8"
Makes more sense now

Sounds interesting. Wes Craven seems a strange one really. I think he puts his name to things that hes got 1% interest in, and then it comes out and everyones, like....this is crap, its Wes Craven? Poor showing.
Then he directs and writes something and its real good, and everythings back on track!

Let's hope 25/8 is real good too!
