Condom & Abortion AdsPregnancy advisory services - including abortion information - could be advertised on TV and radio under proposals due to be released.
Restrictions on condom adverts could also be relaxed, as part of plans aimed at reducing high UK rates of teenage pregnancy and sexual infections.
They suggest condom adverts could be shown before the 2100 watershed.
The idea is part of a review of advertising codes, which will now be put to the public for their views.
I just thought I'd raise this conversation because I couldn't sleep last night and I caught a tv show that was for Schools and Colleges.....it was for kids about 14 and you know I got the shock of my life I couldn't believe what was been taught now....when I used to hear 'sex education' at school I used to think they'd talk about sexual diseases...the biology of the act itself...relationships,.....about not been pressured into doing it....stuff generally like that...not that much away from what I was taught at school but oh my God they were been taught and shown all the Erogenous zones, about oral sex mentioning blowjobs and going down and explaining exactly what it is,... s&m,... strange fetishes
Now the show was very hip and happening and was funny and cool and I'm sure kids will love it...BUT the content.. ...And I'm no prude but jesus I coulodn't believe it ......
Are we trying to stop kids from getting pregnant or are we teaching them to be better lovers?? Because the stuff that is been taught there was what you would see in a sex aid tape for adults
Personally I think the sex ed (particularly if it resembles this tv show) is doing more harm to the underage pregnancy statistics and i can't ee these ads helping much either
I do question sometimes whether we are teaching kids stuff they really don't need to know at such early ages and I know kids are savvy today and know more ......but its like every kid has to know everything about sex now because some will and get themselves in trouble....if it was helping to bring down pregnacies fair enough..... but it ain't

Funny you saying how shocked you were Luc......I caught a glimpse of a trailer for some sex education prog starting next week (maybe it's the same prog you saw?) Anyway, this trailer appeared to show a classroom of teens and they all suddenly gasped, laughed or looked shocked or stunned because there seemed to be a row of males facing them who were starkers Like I say, I only caught a glimpse of the trailer, so I don't know if I saw right (they could have been nude waxwork models or something!)....or if it actually happened that way But, from what you say about the prog you saw, anything's possible!
The prog you spoke about seems to be going too far.......some teens might be embarrassed, while others will want to try out what they've seen! No matter how much sex education is taught....girls will still get pregnant. Drunkenness and peer pressure have a lot to do with it, but some girls see a baby as a way of getting their own flat, benefits and getting away from home.

I caught that trailer too it was for a show I think called 'Adult Education Vs Pornography' and will be on Ch4 probably after the watershed but this show was specifically for teens to teach them.....like the kind of tv show that you would get to see at school sometimes as part of the syllabus....
And I know your right teens are going to have sex no matter what but when i seen what was been taught i just thought it was over kill...do 14 year olds really need to be taught about weird sexual fettishes or ways to be a better lover?? Now I'm no prude and I'm not even saying that no 14 year old should know about this stuff however these new lessons and school guidelines are for a purpose...its mean't to reduce pregnancies and sexual diseases in our young teens and for the life of me I can't see how these would do it
In saying that the tv show was funny and cool and would appeal ....its just the content of what was being taught to kids that was slightly disturbing

I've been following the various debates around sex education fairly closely lately, and it seems absurd that the government apparently wants to start teaching kids the birds and the bees from the age of around five....its mad! Fair enough improve the quality of teaching for people old enough to understand the biological ins and outs ( no pun intended!) of sex, it might actually combat the teen pregnancy epidemic. But I do question some of what's being taught nowadays, surely nobody can afford to be that black and white about what is a sensitive subject?

Yes, that's the prog Luc....it starts on C4 tonight and it's presented by Anna Richardson....I thought at first they meant Anna Ryder Richardson, the interior designer
Are the sex education lessons compulsory? What happens if some parents object to them...can their kids opt out?

I agree Morphy I don't think kids around five should be taught it either...I've no problem with individual parents doing so if they think it is better for their child but the fact that they just want to compulsory do it in school I think is wrong
That would have been some show Cat...she'd be doing up all the guy's willies in bows, painting the female bodies different colours and stuff
As for opting out I don't think parents can...maybe?? but I really don't think so?
By the way did anyone watch the show last night 'Sex Ed vs Pornography'??
I don't know..... She was almost trying to make out that female teens have such body worries and hang ups because of pornography which lets face it ....really isn't true!! Male teens?... perhaps?? Due firstly to more boys watching them and secondly the guys in porn usually having monster manhoods that no genuine normal guy could match...but even this I don't think is a major worry
As for female teens The reason most are body conscious is because of media and celebrity today which includes mags, papers, reality shows, pops groups, etc
She seemed to focus too a hell of alot on these so called 'perfect boobs' bringing in a group of the boys to show card pictures of each pair...she was trying again to suggest that pornography has changed the young's view of what is normal...which I really don't believe
If she was to put up some different picture cards showing different types of men's chests and stomachs...from scrawny guys to fat and in the middle of that had a picture of a well tonned, air-brushed muscular chest and abs...I guarrantee they would all be gawking and selecting that one too
You got to remember aswell alot of these kids would have been saying stuff to look cool particular the lads
Another thing which I have to say I found a bit unbelieveable too was the bit when she apparently searched the net looking for porn to see how accessable it was for the young to get their hands on and she got up almost immediately an image of child abuse....for the life of me I couldn't see that happening unless she was really looking for it

I do think that for a number of years now society has created a monster with this idea that there is such thing as a 'perfect body'- surely if people are comfortable in their own skin that in itself is perfection? But the media insists on feeding impressionable younger people this idea that if you copy a certain celebrity's image, go on a certain diet or have certain treatments you'll look better and feel a lot happier, but what you don't see often enough are warnings of the hidden dangers of such things- its like asking someone to choose between a quick fix and their own health, which is wrong on so many levels!

I watched the show.....I thought the teens would be smirking and making smutty remarks but they actually took it quite seriously and made some intelligent (and honest) comments! But no matter how many pictures of ordinary people are used, it's still hard to get away from the idea of a "perfect body" as shown in films and the media......so teens (and females in particular) will always try to acheive that "perfection."
When she looked at those porn sites Luc, a message appeared from someone supposedly wanting to chat with her......did she click on the message and that's how she got the child abuse footage suddenly crop up on screen? It seems adsurd that software isn't built into all computers to block children being able to access porn, so it's good they're doing a campaign about it......they should shut down all sites with child abuse on them too.

I do agree about pc's perhaps having software automatically to prevent kids from bad sites and they should shut down Child abuse sites and arrest those behind them...
But the main thing of the show was highlighting kids insecurities with their bodies and puting a direct link with this and pornography and I don't believe that link is very strong at all...much more is the link with celebrity, magazines, newspapers, etc
Did you notice last night too them displaying a statistic that 80% of women today have bought a sex aid for themselves.....like a vibrator ....now if thats the case why is it that men can't watch porn yet its alright for a woman to use her aid?? I just thought I'd throw that in there
