Concerts

As instructed I'm posting in the music section!!
I thought we could have a thread about concerts we've been to/are going to.

I'm going to see Editors in a fortnight - woohoo!!!!
Can't wait, they were totally sold out but I managed to get tickets off e-bay.
Lucifer_666

I went to U2 years ago....they were very good though oh and I seen Meatloaf in a Slane concert
lord vader

only concert i've been to was the eagles tribute band
Madamhoney

The only one??! Really?! God, I've been to loads, would be difficult to list them all to be honest.
ColonelK

My favourite EVER gig was Alice In Chains at Manchester Academy, around 15 years ago.

TOTALLY enjoyed it, from the opening song to the last.

Then they were interviewed in the Manchester Evening News a few days later, and they said it was the worst gig they had ever done. The crowd were lifeless, the venue was tiny and they vowed never to come back.

They were right about never coming back, as Layne Staley died a short while after!

T'was still the best gig ever in my opinion.
Catnapper

Alice In Chains.......I LOVED Grind It's a wonder I didn't wear it out from playing it all the time!
ColonelK

My ex bought me the Jar of Flies / SAP EP CD for my birthday years ago.

A few weeks later, for her birthday she asked me to buy her the Greatest Hits by James.

It didn't last long after that. lol.

Always remember A I C playing Would? around half way through the gig. On the CD it lasts around 3 mins, but when they played it it lasted about 5. They played it at such a slow pace, it sounded REALLY dark and menacing. Absolutely gorgeous.

Grind is a great album too!
Madamhoney

Not sure I've ever heard them!! Are they particularly famous?!

My fave concert, hmm, Pulp were excellent, just as good live as on their albums, The Cure are ALWAYS good, naturally - LOL! I saw the Wonder Stuff at Manchester and OMD (amongst others) were supporting and they were surprisingly brilliant, very energetic.

I much prefer small gigs, have only been to a couple of stadium concerts and they were smallish stadiums at that - LOL!
ColonelK

LOL! The first EVER gig I went to was The Wonder Stuff, at Walsall Stadium. It was fantastic. Vic Reeves even came on to sing Dizzy at the end.

Alice in Chains aren't overly famous. They released about 5 or 6 singles I think, had one 4 track EP, 3 proper albums and 1 double CD thing with 2 EPs in it. That was well over 10 years ago though, but they're still my fave band.

Chris Cornell from Soundgarden did backing vocals on their first ever EP. weird.
Madamhoney

Well, they were one of the first I saw, well, in the first 10 anyway - LOL! I loved them at the time.

I'm going to see if I can find anything by AIC to see if I do actually know them - LOL!
OK, listened to several songs on YouTube, definitely never heard them before - LOL!
lord vader

as you can see i don't get out much ,
ColonelK

Don't worry Aundy, I haven't been to see anything for about 8 years.

Actually, the last thing I saw live was Tim Vine. Rock n Roll! lol!
ColonelK

Oh well. At least you tried! lol
Madamhoney

I hardly ever go to concerts either. It was much easier when I lived in Newcastle as loads of great bands played there. I saw the Chili Peppers last year at Sheffield who were brilliant and The Music a couple of years back in Bridlington (where I saw Pulp, GREAT venue) but I think that's about it!!

Editors will be good as it's a small gig though I'm not used to standing about for hours these days - LOL!
lord vader

i would love to see the chilli's live , watched tea in park when they were there , brilliant
ColonelK

Chilis would be great to see live.

Would also like to see Metallica, the original Guns n Roses, The Haunted, Tori Amos and Staind.
lord vader

yup agree metallica would be great , but i would give anything to see the original g'n'r live , after watching the live in tokyo video a few times.
Madamhoney

I'm off to see Editors tonight - WOOHOO!!!!
Catnapper

Is that at Leeds University Honey?

Wherever it is have a brill time......I'm sure you will!
Lucifer_666

What newspaper do those editors work for Honey??

Oh you mean a BAND What kind of music do they do?? I feel old
Madamhoney

They were absolutely brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, it was at Leeds Uni Cat, a reasonable venue I thought, nice and small anyway.
They're described as having influences by Joy Division and Echo & the Bunnymen Luc. If you know who they are.
Catnapper

Sounds like you had a good time Honey

I wish we had groups performing at smaller gigs round here.....I don't fancy going to large arenas like the NEC, Wembley or GMex, too many people for my liking!
Madamhoney

That's one reason I was so eager to see them on this tour, I'm sure next time round they'll be playing bigger venues. Unfortunately the tickets went on sale while I was off sick and by the time I got access to the internet they were sold out. I had to buy them off e-bay so they did cost quite a bit more but it was worth it.
Lucifer_666

Yep I think recall those bands alright I'm glad you had a good time they sounded good
Madamhoney

OMG! I just logged into my mail and found Gary has bought me tickets to see The Cure!!!!!!!! Incase you don't know they're only my FAVOURITE group ever!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't seen them in 10 years I think. They're playing Wembley Arena next March and are sold out, I think I may faint!

It better not be a joke!!!
Lucifer_666

Very generous and very nice of him Honey Should be a great time for you

I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Oh, Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday I'm in love

Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate...

I don't care if Mondays black
Tuesday, Wednesday - heart attack
Thursday, never looking back
It's Friday, I'm in love
xxxblackrosexxx

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr never managed to get to any concerts yet, everytime i plan to something happens to stop me!!!Ive missed so many!
Madamhoney

I'll pay him back of course! I wouldn't expect him to pay for them - LOL!

I used to go to loads when I was younger Blackrose, but life gets in the way when you're older unfortunately, responsibilities and all that, how dull - lol
Catnapper

A nice thing for Gary to do.....it's like an early Christmas present

That's 1 thing to look forward to next year!
Madamhoney

Yeah, he's still a sweetie
Madamhoney

I just got tickets to see Editors again erm 2 nights on the trot next March - lol!! Wooo!
Catnapper

Good for you Honey.....you're a true fan!
Madamhoney

So it would seem Will be a busy month as The Cure is in March too - lol
Lucifer_666

These Editors mustn't edit wery well though if you have to go the following night to get edited again
Madamhoney

Just managed to get myself some tickets to see The Music in May. This is the 3rd lot of extra dates they've announced and finally I've got some cause they sell out in no time. Haven't seen them in years and can't wait, they are fantastic!!! It's in a small venue too.

Darth, if you read this you should check them out cause they play some funky rock!!

It's The Cure on Thursday, my 3rd gig of the year - lol.
Lucifer_666

I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Oh, Thursday doesn't even start

Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate...

I don't care if Mondays black
Tuesday, Wednesday - heart attack
Thursday, never looking back
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday, you can hold your head
Tuesday, Wednesday stay in bed
Or Thursday - watch the walls instead
It's Friday, I'm in love

Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate...

Dressed up to the eyes
It's a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throwing out your frown
And just smiling at the sound
And as sleek as a shriek
Spinning round and round
Always take a big bite
It's such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It's Friday, I'm in love

I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday I'm in love

Yep thats my favourite Cure song
Madamhoney

LOl That's one of my least faves. Too poppy by far.
It's been a near disaster tho'. Took ages to get tickets as they'd sold out by the time I heard about it, then my sister couldn't go so I'm going with a friend I met from another forum, and now I hear there are rail strikes from Wed next week till Easter Monday, so how I'm supposed to get to London I don't know!!
Lucifer_666

I do like Love Cats too but that one would be my favourite....my sister was a huge fan of the cure though

A friend you met from another forum??      You be careful with that shit Honey...you don't know really who your meeting... I was going to say I hope at least its a woman but with previous encounters on that front I don't think it matters does it
Madamhoney

PMSL Yeah, have had some dodgy moments - lol. I've met her before a few times so it's OK. Always been in a group though so it'll be strange being just the 2 of us.
I've only ever met women, and not many either I'm quite sensible you know - lol.
Lucifer_666

Hmm sounds it     you would scare me if I was your OH you know that...she could be single White Female for all you know   if we get a new member soon called MadamBoney here acting and sounding like you I'm going to get seriously worried
Madamhoney

LOL He was worried when I said next time I see Editors I was going on my own or would meet with people off their forum. He was saying 'how will I know what these people are like, I don't like the sound of that!!' lol

What you supposed to do when your hubby doesn't want to go though?! And all your friends live in different counties!
Lucifer_666

You catch a recording of the concert and give it a miss?

You don't go and meet people that you only know online

I don't blame him for being worried Honey.....do ytou not feel a bit vunerable there yourself?
Madamhoney

I would most likely say I was meeting someone and go on my own to be honest. Cause he won't let me go on my own, which I don't blame him for. It's not the concert it's the getting there and more importantly the getting back home at round midnight! And yeah I would be nervous, but I don't want to be stuck at home missing out, and behaving like I'm middle-aged before my time.

If he wanted a younger wife he has to take the rough with the smooth (and you know what the smooth is    lol)
Lucifer_666

Perhaps you need to alter your tastes and preferences to suit your OH's  Honey ...that way there would be no problem with getting him to go     yes its a little one sided to his advantage  but at least you wouldn't be on your own or meeting forum unknowns      Either that or CHANGE HIM!!!

I would just worry Honey if I was your OH about some unknown forum person wanting to take your.... erm.... 'smooth' too
Jipdog

'Tis a bit of a tricky situation that. My OH listens to pretty much the same music as me, but can't stand going to concerts. If my mates don't want to go, then I won't either. Not much fun going to a gig on your tod. If needs be, I drag my parents along, depending what the gig is.

Anybody got more gigs lined up this year? I have a couple lined up.
Got Def Leppard/Whitesnake in June and trying to back some tickets for Download so I can see Kiss and Judas Priest. Probably go and see Thunder for the 8th time in November.
Madamhoney

Our tastes overlap very slightly - lol. He's 6 or is it 7    years older so we're from different decades. His fave is the Rolling Stones, I only like their early stuff. And besides, I don't like stadium concerts. He just doesn't listen to new music, anything after about 1988 and he doesn't have a clue - lol.

The other thing is, when I do get him to go along he just wants seated tickets whereas I wanted standing so I can have a good jump about.

Course the answer is to get a younger model - lol.

Jip, I don't think I'd be taking my parents to any concerts as they're both 70!
Jipdog

Of course you could! My Nan went to see Daniel O'Donnell   . Go on, treat them!
Madamhoney

I'll take em to see The Cure then, I'm sure they'll love it. I could even Goth them up a bit - lol.
Lucifer_666

He's really not that much older than you Honey.....but perhaps he acts twenty years older than you     though in saying that you are getting to the age now of really only going to seated events

Jip you took your Nan to Daniel O Donnell??      You either really really love her or she's rich and has you in her will??

Your poor parents Honey I hope they are well because if not ..you saying your taking them to  'the Cure'  may end up being an even bigger shock to them then you think
Jipdog

Behave Luc! I never took her. 'Twas my aunt. There isn't enough money in the world for me to go and see Daniel O'Donnell! Rather be surgically stuck to Jeremy Kyle for all eternity!
Lucifer_666

Oh God thats what true nightmares are made of......can you imagine being at a Daniel O Donnell's concert while being surgically attached to Jeremy Kyle      I think we may need to move this conversation over to the horror section
Jipdog

Yup. Can't think of anything worse than that!!
Lucifer_666

Daniel O Donnell brings out Daniel Beddingfield to sing with him      Oh God what have I done??
Jipdog

 Nooooooooo!!!
Lucifer_666

 Yep true horror
Emperor Morphetine

I may be going to see REM in my summer holidays if all goes to plan...
Lucifer_666

Brill Morphy    I was a huge fan of REM when I was younger ....I still like them but not as much as I once did...I was into them big time when they had the Green and Document albums out
Madamhoney

I know Gary is going to see them at the Albert Hall on Monday. They're OK but a bit samey for my liking, couldn't listen to more than a couple of songs really before getting bored.

The Cure were absolutely amazing!!! Think that's the 5th time I've seen them and definitely the best. They were on for 3 1/2 hrs and just got better and better, the encores were so brilliant, especially the last one. The atmosphere was soooo good, everyone was just excited and dancing and clapping and letting themselves go, really getting into it. I think because it's so long since they last played everyone was just joyous about it, that's the best way I can describe it, even the group, you could see they were loving it.
Lucifer_666

Funny I do think that is a fault with them Honey...some of their newer stuff does sound like their older material but they are still a great band..... I still think one of the best songs live is "Its the end of the World as we know it" and Stipe sings it brilliantly

The Cure sounded great....did they do my favourite??
Madamhoney

Yes they did. and funny enough the girl I went with said she only really knew one song, no prizes for guessing which one!    I think cause it's all poppy and doesn't really sound like a Cure song, which is probably why I don't like it much - lol.
Lucifer_666

Yeah you like the more depressing Cure stuff Honey        I'm joking I'm joking

I have to admit to not knowing many of their songs myself...the only other one I can think of off hand is LoveCats    The sis would know a load though
Madamhoney

I would've put money on it being Love Cats - lol. I do like the depressing ones - lol. But my fave are the ones with big guitars and loud drums and a good dollop of agressive vocals - lol.
Lucifer_666

Erm...why?.. ........Oh you like the angry ones then most Honey    now that ain't surprising either
Madamhoney

 The rage lives within me!!!
Lucifer_666

That sounds like a tagline for a horror film  or something Honey....or the Hulk tv series......Are you a Honey Monster
Emperor Morphetine

I'm definetely seeing REM now- hopefully it's a good show. I'm getting the new album, 'Accelerate' soon as well. I already have 'Automatic For The People' which is one of my favourites.
Lucifer_666

Ahh thats great Bud...... REM are brill!!
Madamhoney

Well Darth, not to put a dampener on things (cause that would be most unlike me   ) but Gary didn't enjoy the show at all, in fact he was in a grump about it for days after. Perhaps the one you go to will be better as it'll be promoting the new album - presumably.

They seem to be on everything at the moment, I was shocked at how old they're looking!
Lucifer_666

Don't listen Morphy that Gary was always a grump...he wouldn't know a good time if it came up behind him and bit him in the arse
Madamhoney

We prefer the term grouch.
Lucifer_666

Hey thats insulting to the much more pleasant Grouchs out there like Oscar

In fairness he always was ....erm....glum wasn't he??
Madamhoney

Actually, that's not entirely true, you just don't know him very well, cause he's easily the funniest person I know.

And Oscar would be proud to have us as fellow grouches!!

Just cause he doesn't live in "Carry On land" like the rest of you.
Lucifer_666

 Yeah he's a hoot!!!

Oh and BEHAVE!!!!! Your always welcome to Carry on Land anytime Honey..
Madamhoney

He is VERY funny actually. You can't blame him for you lacking a decent sense of humour!

Something slightly more evolved than a perpetual loop of double entendres and jokes about how you eat creme eggs.

So obviously you don't think I'm funny either then?!  Humph, peasant.
Lucifer_666

Do you care whether ...erm... this peasant.... thinks your funny or not?   ...

I've got a great sense of humour... I can mix all types of sexual innuendo, with dark humour, to the simplest silly or quirky....I jest with style and class...its not my fault that you and sourpuss are one dimensional and boring
Madamhoney

One dimensional!! But you only have 5 jokes that you use on rotation! Flippin' cheek!

And if I'm so boring you won't miss me then.
Lucifer_666

What do you mean miss you?....your not running off now are you?....I thought you were enjoying the banter???

As for my 5 jokes they are rotated very cleverly always seemingly offering something new

Come Back Honey.....me ...only ...joking
