Beatles Bank Holiday WeekendI noticed in this week's TV/radio guide that Radio 2's having a 'Beatles Bank Holiday Weekend' starting on Friday- Chris Evans's usual requests show will be an all- Beatles affair, then after that finishes there'll be a 'Talking About The Beatles' slot, followed at 10pm by 'When John Met Paul', a documentary about the first meeting between Lennon & McCartney in the late 1950s and ' In The Beginning' at 11 which will look into the early years of the Fab Four and features an interview with Astrid Kirchherr, who was the girlfriend of original Beatles bassist Stuart Sutcliffe.
It all sounds quite interesting, and I shall certainly be listening in!

I've been listening to it I've sung along to Hey Jude, With A Little Help From My Friends, Day Tripper and Lady Madonna
I laughed when one viewer said about his dad going to the same guitar club as Paul McCartney....and the others used to joke about Paul's ditties! I bet they wished they'd paid more attention to them now

I've been enjoying the documentary sections, that sort of thing always interests me.

I haven't listened to the documentaries yet, I've been enjoying the music instead! The Official Chart Company compiled a list of The Beatles best selling hits in the UK....
1 - She Loves You
2- I Want To Hold Your Hand
3 - Can't Buy Me Love
4 - I Feel Fine
5 - Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out
6 - Hey Jude
7 - From Me To You
8 - Help
9 - Hello Goodbye
10 - Get Back
I thought Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane and With a Little Help From My Friends would have been in the list too!

Well, you have to remember they came to prominence in the early 1960s and I suspect a lot of the people who bought Beatles records did so in the group's 'mop top' period- it seems to be the best remembered period of their career to my knowledge.

Yes that's probably the reason Morphy. Their songs must have felt completely different after the 50s rock and roll era!

You'd have thought so, yeah- particularly after they went more experimental.

It's actually been pretty good so far, they had the film of their first US tour, 'The Beatles On Record' and 'Help!' on last night, then it's ' How The Beatles Rocked The Kremlin' tonight and more to come in this coming week.
