BBC websiteI know that a few of us have had problems with the BBC site in the past, with their moderators being general wastes of space, but were still bemused when the messageboards were shutdown, but was anybody aware that the whole movie section has now been shutdown completely for 2 weeks? Goes to show that the BBC are quite happy to take our money then dump on us.
Catnapper
2 weeks......that's ridiculous! Have they said the movie section's gone for good JD? I can't see why they'd want to close it cause I'd have thought it got lots of people visiting there
I would suggest getting in touch with them but you probably wouldn't get an answer!
Lucifer_666
It just shows the complete lack of thought or consideration they have for the people who use their services online....I had to say I never noticed really because I sort of cut off going near their entertainment areas like the Movies section or the other messageboards...though I see (after looking there now) they have a Heroes Section up....I wonder how long that will last??
Jipdog
It's gone for good Cat. You get a little message in a warning triangle saying this section is no longer updated. I wouldn't waste my time typing to them. As when they shutdown the boards and people had problems with being banned, it would be a futile exercise as the BBC do as they damn well please. I think they should shut down their weather page as it changes every 30 seconds. It's like they're throwing a hundred darts to make sure at least one of them hits the bullseye.
Catnapper
There's a film section on the Blast messageboard on the BBC but it only seems small compared with how the movie messageboards used to be. Were they having problems with offensive posts or something JD cause I can't understand why they'd shut down another movies board? Like Luc said, there's a Heroes section now.......did the movies one close down to make way for that one?
It's a shame we couldn't have got our FilmFlicking link on there before it closed down.
Lucifer_666
Yep that is my one last regret too Cat...I wish we had to have started FilmFlicking before the BBC had finished so we could have given more people an alternative place to go.....oh well
Catnapper
The Beeb said we could put links up to other sites just before the Movie boards were shut down, so we could probably have done a FF link before the other board shut down too........never mind, it's too late now.
I still think the BBC should have appointed Moderators from the regular posters........having people who visit the site daily and who could deal with problems quickly would have been better and the boards probably wouldn't have shut down.
lord vader
totally agree cat , the saituation just got way out of hand , and in the end foks were just goading the mods as they knew what would happen ,
Catnapper
I seem to remember Luc having a few battles with them
lord vader
aye and me
Lucifer_666
Yep I definitely feel it a lost opportunity but then again I didn't even know I could create this forum at the time of the BBC closure..oh well what can ya do?
I did suggest about making posters moderators there to the BBC management itself but they just weren't interested...in fact they weren't interested in anything I was saying....they were just adamant on closing the place down
lord vader
yeah i t hin kmost of the board are gone now are they not
Lucifer_666
Yep I think so
lord vader
yeah i t hin kmost of the board are gone now are they not
Catnapper
There'll be no boards left at this rate Could be they're on a cost cutting exercise?
Lucifer_666
They were always on a cost cutting exercise as far as I could see babe.....even our movie message boards were cut well before they deleted them as they assigned nobody to moderate or keep an eye on them...it really was ridiculous....we were always on borrowed time there

They weren't interested in listening to reason at all. I remember the email that you sent off Luc. How long did it take for you to get reply? I thought it was a bloody poor fob off of a reply too. It's nice to see that our licence money is being spent well: repeats, poor new programmes, recycling of old ideas and not having enough people to maintain a decent website. Don't know if any of you used to use the comedy guide there, but it closed down for quite sometime with a message saying that it would reopen soon with a more detailed guide. When it did come back online (after 3 months) there was about 75% LESS programmes on there and the guides themselves were far, far less detailed than before. If they can't be bothered, then why do they have a website at all?
Lucifer_666
I think I was waiting weeks for a reply Jip and your right it just showed that they had absolutely no interest in the site that they are running.
I don't mind them changing things around in fact I think sometimes it can be a good thing but the way they do it on the BBC is completely wrong...they don't even ask for suggestions from those very people who use their site...and then what are really cutting costs and corners they try and convince everyone that it is a more improved slimline experience
Sure when they were closing the Movie Messageboards that was the first thing that was being spouted...We have to close here in order to keep up the high standards elsewhere which if you pardon the language was complete bollocks
Jipdog
Exactly. Language is minded as it was in an acceptable context!
lord vader
yeah utter big roond wans , and the 3 minute rule what a crock that was
Catnapper
The 3 minute rule was pants....no wonder people left. The modding rule was rubbish too......people got modded for little things then had to wait hours for their posts to show up.
lord vader
aye totally petty bams . bye the end of it all , no one was happy with the beeb ,
Lucifer_666
It was crazy alright.....they introduced these awful rules and conditions that put people off the forums and then used the lack of people coming to the forums as an excuse
Jipdog
But are we totally surprised? I mean take a look at their tv output it's pretty poor nowadays, so their website wasn't really going to be any better than that.
Lucifer_666
I guess your right mate...but I was still disappointed with them
Catnapper
They put good posters under moderation just for criticising things but then let idiot posters carry on posting
lord vader
it was the beeb and there mods who ruined eveything . and if they don't want to like them then they defo go about it the right way bunch of bams
Catnapper
The BBC Trust says the BBC went almost £36 million over the intended budget for their website.......could explain why they're closing messageboards down to save money.
Lucifer_666
I can tell you something the movie Messageboards got absolutely nothing of that 36 million and if you ask me was just a token casualty to make it appear that they were actually doing something to save money
lord vader
bye the end i was just a number U5061204
Lucifer_666
I can't believe you still remember it bud .....you would think we did time in prison
I'm not a number I'm a free man
Jipdog
36 million OVER budget?! How big was their original budget? That is an insane ammount to spend on a website as poor as the BBC's. Well, any website really. Can anybody say honestly that they can see that money on their computer when they log on to the BBC?
Catnapper
If I remember right JD the original budget was......wait for it......£110 million and they've gone over that by £36 million - the mind boggles
Jipdog
Where the hell is £146,000,000 in that website? Christ, and they wonder why people object to paying the tv licence!
Lucifer_666
I have to admit I can't see where all that money was going on that site myself....even paying reporters and researhers to write on it I couldn't see costing that kind of money
K
I thought the Beeb was shut down A G E S ago...
By that I mean the Beeb movie section, not the entire Beeb
I also just checked Movie mumblings and that seems to have gone into receivership??? We've lost all our friends we used to have from the bad old BBC days
Lucifer_666
Its not down K they are just having difficulties with their main link....we are actually in the process of affiliating between the two forums we're just waiting for slight technical issues to be sorted out over on Moviemumblings so we can then add a proper link and banner here for there
But here's the link to get you on K
http://www.motorsportmumblings.co...=38c6fc2a39f80e3a9e2754564f6e1fd6
By the way check out the new 'Stars' section we have set up K after your recent query about one being absent here....Oh and I moved your Joaquin Phoenix appreciation post in there
K
What a hero you are [swoon].
Fancy you two affiliating. I've just been trying to re-contact our old BBC friends. I bet you'd love Alan to come along and start an argument like the bad old days
Lucifer_666
Here I come to save the day!!! (where's that extra large Mighty Mouse costume when you need it? )
All is welcome here in FilmFlicking K besides Alan could never beat me
Being honest with you we all have fond memories of the old BBC times too and want to keep the usual suspects together aswell..I think it would be an awful shame if more got lost and cut away which is why I think its a good idea for us all to affilliate just in case
lord vader
hiya K hows you , yup 146 million my jack jones , more like 1 pound 46 p.
yeah would be great to get the old beebers on here and MM
Catnapper
£1.46 sounds about right Andy
Who was that other poster you always had.... argu.....I mean discussions with Luc?! He always came up with detailed statistics to back his claims but sometimes you both actually agreed with each other?!
Yeah it's a pity we can't get the old BBC posters back.
lord vader
some we can but most there is no hope unless they are on other sites and we manage some how to find them .
K
I'm really excited about the merger between FF and MM! It'll be nice to get together and not have to go to both sites [not that I go to MM much ]
Catnapper
It's not a merger K, we've just got their link up here and vice versa
lord vader
RP just has to get his main link sorted .and then it's all good and affiliated .
K
| Catnapper wrote: | It's not a merger K, we've just got their link up here and vice versa |
We'll have to lure the MMs over here with our feminine [and masculine] wiles
Catnapper
Sounds like a cunning plan K
lord vader
tisk tisk , women up to no good
Catnapper
It was K's suggestion and she did say masculine wiles as well as feminine ones
lord vader
they'll listen more to you women though
Lucifer_666
Bonjomeen Cat? ....Arc?
Hmm yes great plan ...lets send the ladies to tantalise the MMers over here you can both shake them booties at the lads
Catnapper
Arc....that's the one Luc Remember how he'd keep coming back at you with more and more statistics all the time?!
Lucifer_666
I did actually enjoy some of the arguments...when they were kept to the arguement
K
Oh, I liked ARC, I had some good discussions with him. I didn't know Bonjomeen
lord vader
miss chatting with gaz as well .
Catnapper
I can't remember much about Bonjomeen but ARC definitely sticks in my mind........he was very informative!
There was another poster too (can't remember his name) who wrote weird posts. Other posters had a go at him but I thought his Harry Hill type ramblings were funny
lord vader
oh yeah luc will remember him ,
Lucifer_666
I'm afraid his name escapes me too
lord vader
still got the link to the page may be i can find him lol
lord vader
sandyfromcincy
Madam Honey
corrado-chick
Popo
Catnapper
The weird Harry Hill type one isn't listed there Andy......I wish I could remember his name! He'd post strange random things and say "Discuss"...........he made me laugh
Lucifer_666
I have Corrodo Chick on one of those sites like Bebo...or facebook...but we rarely talk as I rarely go on them...I did tell her ages back about here though
Catnapper
I remember thighboots and Roy too......they were only posting for a short time though. What was the name of that boy (he was about 19) who used to talk to us? He was very keen about films and I think he said about working across the road from a sex shop if I remember right Was that Bojomeen?!
K
Is madam Honey not here anymore then?
Catnapper
I haven't seen her around for a while now K....maybe she's taking a break from forums?
lord vader
yeah haven't seen madam for a while , was she not mostly posting on MM .
Lucifer_666
I don't think that was Bonjomeen babe...but here's a few other names of others on the BBC site
Chump
Damien666 (Ahh my long lost son... ....come home boy!!!!!! )
13th apostle
optimus prime
Cinejunkie (was this also Alan?)
(I was looking through some old files I had on my USB key and I had forgotten that I had saved a load of the old Movie club reviews from the BBC before it closed....I must add them here in a kind of archive thread over in reviews?)
As for Honey yep she hasn't been around here for a while now and she's missed though I reckon she'll turn back up again if she gets the time .....or something here interests her ...well I hope so
Catnapper
Oh yeah....I'd forgotten about Damien He was such a great poster, very knowledgeable and he could discuss things in great length.......though he did post a naughty topic that got shut down from what I remember Didn't he post about wrestling too?
I think Chump's gone for good too
No Luc, Cinejunkie wasn't Alan In fact I think CJ's on here under a different name!
lord vader
and don't forget your bro daring andy
Catnapper
Whatever happened to daring Andy?!
lord vader
he went in to one chamber and damien 666 went in the other , and lucifer was born
Catnapper
I can hear the crashing thunder and lightening with the organ music
Lucifer_666
Ahhhh we lost good old Daring Andy I'm afraid....like all reknowned dare devils he got his helmet ready donned a skintight fireproof outfit and went up a massive ramp at a fast speed in order to jump over the 100 naked ladies all lined up....needless to say he didn't make it out....in fact I think he's still there
Yep I miss Damien too he was a good poster..I really must add a load of the old movie reviews we all give...its a shame to just have them lying on my usb key and nobody getting to read them
Oh sorry Cine oops
Come baaaaaaaaaack Chump
lord vader
yeah bring back the chump , chump , chump . chump .
K
Yes, I was quite worried about Damien, he got banned by BBC and it upset him. He stopped emailing me ages ago, I hope he's alright. Also Skaster suddenly disappeared, maybe he and Damien were the same person
Captain Dallas/ Cinejunkie/ Nostromo are one and the same.... so he says!
Where's this banner/ link for Moviemumblings then?
Lucifer_666
Ahh Nostromo..of course thats right
As for the banner I'm still waiting for our link to go up there..... they are having trouble with it K.... nobody can see the Affiliated Links section
Jipdog
Who can forget Mavvy and his cheat shop
Lucifer_666
ME
Jipdog
I wonder what that bloke was on?
Lucifer_666
Where was he Jipdog ...was it on the games area??
Jipdog
He started there, but then he spread into the other forums talking wall to wall cack. He had a few other pseudynoms, but they elude me at the moment.
Lucifer_666
I might know one of them pseudynoms Jipdog but there was so many different characters back and forth over the time its hard to keep track of them all
Jipdog
Refresh my memory. I know that he used to have conversations with himself using different names to make it look like he wasn't a 12 year old with an IQ that would be rivalled by retarded cucumber that had just had a frontal lobotomy.
Lucifer_666
I don't think I want to remember him after what your saying he was like Jipdog
