Awards

Just a thought. Any chance of doing our own Oscar awards? Shortlist films then all vote on them in different categories. If we do it round the time of the Oscars and compare them, it would be interesting to see the difference between the people on the Academy who are bit set in their ways and far from the pulse and the people who actually spend their hard earned reddies on watching films.
Catnapper

Good idea Jip   I know I disagree sometimes with the Academy's decisions!
big aundy

could also do something like that for posters as well
Jipdog

Thought it might be good idea as it would give some discussion points.
Lucifer_666

Great idea Jip ...i like it   and we could build it up ...i could put up a countdown clock to it and write it up on the  announcement scroller
What categories should we focus on do you all reckon?...Or Should we keep them religiously to the Oscar categories?

do you mean awards for posters Sta?
big aundy

indeed i do mate
Catnapper

I'd say keep to some of the categories they usually have at the Oscars....Best Actor/Actress, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, Best Film etc etc......but have some of our own fun categories like Worst Scene, Worst Actor/Actress, Best Newcomer (is that already an Oscar category?), Best Horror Film, Best SciFi Film, Best or Worst Line in a Film  etc, etc.......
Jipdog

Cat, you took the words right of my mouth! I was thinking for each category, you have th opposite as well so it would be the Oscars and the Razzies rolled into 1.
Catnapper

We must be thinking alike Jip!
Lucifer_666

hey get a mental room you two

All messing aside i like all the thinking flickers
Catnapper

We'll have to get it sorted out soon cause the Oscars are only a few weeks away!
Jipdog

First things first: we need categories.

1. Best film of the year
2. Worst film of the year
3. Best Actor
4. Worst Actor
5. Best Actress
6. Worst Actress
7. Best Supporting Actor
8. Worst Supporting Actor
9. Best Supporting Actress
10. Worst Supporting Actress
11. Best Soundtrack
12. Worst Soundtrack

Can't think of anymore yet and I'm not too sure whether everyone wants to start going into the technical awards or not. After that, we'll have to draw up the shortlists, which I think should be done in closed voting so nobody knows whos voting for what until the final shortlist for each award is out.
Catnapper

That's a good list Jip....we don't want too many categories or it'll take ages going through them all!
Lucifer_666

Yep good one Jip.....we could do Best and Worst Director too...but I do agree I think thats enough or we will get bogged down

Oh and by the way anyone makes a meal of winning like Miss Winslet did and their award gets taken off them

As for shortlists i don't mind taking pms from people with their nominations and calculating them up ...in order to reveal them later
though would we not be better just throwing out films for nomination and then secretly pming for the big final award announcentments?

Oh and seeing as the Oscars are on Sunday the 22nd Feb i was thinking maybe the New Flicking Awards should take place here on the Friday the 20th ...two days before..We can change that date if you all wish....nothing is set in stone
Catnapper

Kate Winslet was funny but soooooo embarrassing to watch too   Though now she's finally won some awards, maybe she'll be calmer if she wins an Oscar?.........no, I don't think so either   I laughed when she said sorry to the other nominees in her category, rhymed their names off, then said who's the other one....meaning Angelina

Friday the 20th would be good for the New Flicking Awards Luc
Jipdog

Sounds good. Can't believe I left off Best/Worst Director! D'oh!
Lucifer_666

Yep Cat i was half laughing half cringing at watching it ...

kate with her two golden globes    who'd have thought it

Don't worry Jip you can't think of everything bud

So that date sounds okay to everyone then?
Jipdog

Sounds fine Luc. Oh, before I forget, Best/Worst Comedy.
Lucifer_666

oh yeah    i forgot them too. ...nice one
big aundy

suppose we all know ledger should get best actor
Catnapper

He's winning awards so it looks as if he could win the Oscar too.
Lucifer_666

he would be up for the supporting actor category wouldn't he?
Catnapper

He's won a Golden Globe award for Supporting Actor.......I can never fathom out why someone wins a Supporting Actor/Actress Award when they're one of the main actors in a film
Lucifer_666

I guess it gives actors or actresses more chance of winning an Oscar as there can be a main actor in a film with perhaps a smaller amount of airtime than another so I suppose I can understand it...I do think it would be strange to have Heath Ledger win the leading Actor award for The Dark Knight considering the Joker is not really the main role albeit when he does appear he steals the show

We must start throwing in some of the films up for the running for these awards so we can all make sure we have seen them all before judging
Catnapper

What you said rings a bell Luc.....I vaguely remember reading something a while ago about studios nominating actors in both Best and Supporting categories so they stand a better chance of winning an award! I'd have thought the Supporting Actor/Actress award should go to someone further down the cast list......someone who isn't one of the main stars but gives a great standout performance. Didn't George Clooney win the Supporting Actor Oscar for Syriana? I thought that was strange, considering he's the star of the film!
Lucifer_666

Yep I suppose you have a point...smaller actors could be missing out
there should be a Best Extra Award shouldn't there?
Lucifer_666

I thought I'd put up the golden globe nominations and winners (in red) just to give a broad template of perhaps some of the films we should be looking at for the FilmFlicking Awards Nominations
