Are cinemas going mad?

I read this morning that a cinema in Stockport is threatening to prosecute a man for daring to commit the crime of...bringing in his own sweets. Isn't that a bit much? Frankly they deserve all they get for charging ludicrous prices for refreshments!
Lucifer_666

That is madness Morphi.....I was always shocked how cinemas managed to get away with over charging for sweets and stuff  for such a long time now even when I was a child they were at that....though I remember having to sneak the stuff in even then ....they were never happy about it but to prosecute or even throw people out due to that is ludicrous ..

People should boycott the place

I don't know if it's the same person or not Darth but I read yesterday about a man who got thrown out of the cinema for bringing in his own sweets   It's ridiculous that cinemas can act in such a way

What crime are the proposing to prosecute him with? I can't see how that wouldn't be laughed out of court. Not going to stop me getting cheaper, better drinks and snacks from Sainsbury's first!
Emperor Morphetine

I get mine from shops anyway!

The crime of bargain hunting before entering their premises

When I went on my birthday I thought right, I'm going to have a treat!! Because I never buy anything when I go. But there wasn't anything I fancied anyway. They can't have a go at people for bringing in stuff they don't actually sell surely!
Emperor Morphetine

You'd think not but God knows what power cinemas have these days!
Lucifer_666

That would be an interesting defence wouldn't it? And what if you were a diabetic and were bringing in your own low sugar sweets or goodies....or for that matter what if you were just bringing in a weight watchers bar..could you argue your health as a reason for not shopping at the cinema shop?
big aundy

i always manage to hide them , they'll never catch me neva
Lucifer_666

I usually discreetly bring mine in too   though I do like buying popcorn there
big aundy

it's dear enough to but the  tickets never mind pay 4 quid for a coke and 2 fur a bag oh sweets , biggest rip off merchants going i tell ya.
Lucifer_666

Yep they are which is why I am kind of surprised that they are taking some poor schmuck to court for bringing in his own stuff...surely its just bad press for them and people are just going to bring up their over the top prices?
Madamhoney

I think people should be able to take in their own stuff seeing as it's so expensive. But I do think there should be limits. I remember one time I went there was this family behind me who'd taken in a flippin' picnic! They were there with stinky sandwiches, oranges, crisps, cans. This boy was sat on the other side of the aisle and kept running back and forth to get his next installment, selfish gits! No manners some folk.
Lucifer_666

Yeah of course there should be limits after all we don't want people getting their full 3 course meals delivered to their seats while watching a film...could you imagine people getting a chinese or pizza delivered to them just before going in?   Though that family sounded more the problem than the cinema food rules Honey?

Although annoying fellow cinemagoers irritate me too, come to think of it! Especially those idiotic people who sit and talk during the film, thus defeating the objective of going to the cinema surely? And people who sit and munch their way through sweets at full volume should be booted out, its disgusting.
Catnapper

I hate people with rustling sweet wrappers or bags of crisps
Emperor Morphetine

I always get an urge to lean over and have words with them but my better judgement reins me in, I just try to enjoy the film- although at times ignorant people do spoil it.
