Okay I have no sound here to view this but I think I get the gist of it.....I really liked this ending I have to say

I had to put up up links as all the embedded vids I tried have all being removed by Warner Bros.

I like the ending too.....the first ending was too shocking for me   though it did end with hope for mankind. The alternate ending shows compassion and understanding but leaves you wondering what happened next?

Yep even though there is more of the creatures in this ending it is a much more sentimental one...I also think it provided a much better opening for a sequel than the original ending

It's funny I was just told about the alternative ending just 1/2 an hour ago, I haven't seen the film yet, maybe I'll do that tonight.

Spoiler
I do know the end tho cause my stupid step-son, who I leant the DVD to, said 'I don't know why he had to die in the end'.

Another reason for you to love that step son of yours Honey
I bet you killed him....or give him a dirty look which almost did
Madamhoney

Yeah, aint kids great.
He'll keep - lol

I thought the alternate ending was better than the original because it gave a better explanantion for the creatures behaviour. They were obviously showing signs of intelligence, so it seemed odd to me that they would go to all that trouble just to kill him.

It also showed better the fact that in the end he'd spent so much time on his own he actually had less humanity left in him than they did. After all, he was experimenting on them without a seconds thought, but they let him live once he got his mate back. I thought it was quite a poignant moment when he sat looking at all the photos of the creatures he'd killed, wondering if they too had loved ones.

I didn't like the whole 'look at the big hero sacrificing his life' thing in the original either, it's a bit sickly for me - lol.

Yep I see where your coming from Honey..it did kind of explain the whole thing better and your assessment of his humanity compared to theirs rings more to me too....though when I was watching it I was under the impression it was just the leader that seemed to be a little more evolved
or intelligent than the others..I was starting to think near the end that they were slowly returning their minds and that it was some kind of evolutionary thing
